I am, ummm, an 'older bride' it took me til 41 to find Mr. Right. I am very, very excited to have a wedding, but at the same time I want to keep my dress and wedding decor 'age appropriate'. The woman at the bridal salon told me pick up skirts, which I LOVE....are very 'Sweet 16' and for a much younger girl. I am a very young 41,.... if I do say so myself. My FH is 29. Although there is 12 years between us we are on the same page and have very similar activity levels. So my question...this is my first marriage, I have no children, is it not 'age appropriate' of me to want to wear a WHITE dress with a pick up skirt/train? Any other helpful hints for an 'older' bride like me? Please view my photo album and see my dress choice. I have not ordered it yet, so you won't crush me by being honest! Thanks girls!!! If you don't mind, include your age in your reply so I can see what you 20 and 30-somethings think!

Re: age..........
im 25 but im gunna respond anyways becuase 1. you dont at all look 41!!!!!!! wow. you look fabulous and 2. you can wear anything you want. Its still your first wedding so white is definantly an option, i would wear white if i was 40 or 60 for that matter and 3. your dress is georgous!! as long as you look and feel fabulous in it who cares if it has 'pick ups' i say you make it the new '40 somethings' dress!
go for it! get what you want, its your wedding.

okay all I have to say is at 41 you look better than I do at 26 Your body is BANGIN girl!!! You are going to rock that dress!!! Its beautiful by the way and you are going to look great in it. Plus its your first wedding, so you should totally wear white!! You only wear other colors if its your second or third marriage, so dont even stress it... I love the dress, you should so go for it!

Re: age..........
I'm 30, I'll be 31 by my wedding day.
1) You SO do not look 41.
2) the lady who told you that 'picks ups are for sweet 16's'....doesn't deserve your commission.
You totally have a beautiful physique and you will look amazing in the dress in your album. I think the top of it is very elegant and very age appropriate. It's your first wedding, and even if it weren't...it's your day! You're the queen and should look as you want to look.
I would say- in my HONEST opinion- that I believe that crown type headpieces are not age appropriate. I think once you hit 30's it just doesn't go. I'm doing a headband for this reason. I would say a hair comb/headband or flower....otherwise, go for it!
I'll also add, my sister in law was married to my brother (5 years her junior) at 36. Like you, she looked WAY younger and she made a beautiful bride. She wore an off white lace gown and a mantilla veil. Congrats on finding the love of your life!

Re: age..........
i would never guess you were 41 - i peeked at your photos and you look fabulous.....
i really like the dress - when i first started reading your post i understood what you were saying (i am a young bride, 24, but i had similair feelings about pick up style dresses - i actually thought it might make me look 'too young' - and they are on the trendy side and i originally wanted something that i thought was a little more mature looking - like a mermaid style gown - but i just didn't feel like a 'bride' when i tried that style on and guess what - i ended up with a pick up style gown ) - after seeing the dress and seeing you i think it would def be appropriate and i think you would look great in it....and def wear white or ivory....i think you would look stunning - the dress is really elegant looking and i think it would be gorgeous

Yeah you deff don't look 41. I'm 26 and well because I have kids already I didn't think I should wear white. So I ended up going with ivory. I'm still uncertain if I'm going to wear a veil too.
I say... Wear what you feel beautiful in. Don't just go with what you feel is ok for your 'Age'. You won't be completely happy unless you are in love with what your going to wear..

Re: age..........
OMG Are you sure you're 41? You look like ur in your 20s!!!
Wear what you want, don't listen to what people think. It's your first wedding if you want to wear white wear white, if you want pick-ups then go for it!!! Be happy and enjoy it and be the bride you want to be.
I'm 28 and to be honest I just went with the dress I loved....I knew I liked ballgowns, I knew I didn't want pickups and I knew I didn't want anything too bright white so that's what I went with. Everyone was telling me to get a mermaid style bc of my body and I look very young and it would look beautiful etc. etc. but I wanted the ballgown and went for it.
I think whatever you gown you choose you will look stunning in, you're gorgeous!!! Good Luck finding your dream gown

First, F that saleslady in the A. Pardon my vulgarity, but I don't know what her problem was- how do you say that to someone? You are a bride- why not wear what you want??? All of those rules seem so anachronistic these days. None of it applies anymore. YOu wear what you want!!
Second, you look AMAZING- I bet the 20 year old you stole that body from is super pissed. Babe- you want those pick-ups?? You get them and wear the hell out of them. That is just the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
The joy of a wedding day is not the exclusive domain of the 'young'. It is for everyone who has had the good fortune to find love, and who wants to share that with the people they know. And it is for you to celebrate in any way you see fit.
You will look like an absolute princess, and I truly hope you take your business elsewhere to someone who understands this. This shouldn't even take up a moment of your thoughts.
Best of luck, and show it off. Either you have worked very hard for that body, or God loves you. Either way, I am bitter and resentful. If I had your shape, at 36, I'd be wearing a g-string and pasties with tassles, walking down the aisle screaming 'Check me out.'
Oh, and ps- your FH is a babe.

I say:
1) wear whatever you want - age doesn't matter, and this is your day and you can wear whatever dress you feel happy with!
And
2) don't go back to that bridal store. The bridal consultant should be helping you find your dream dress, not telling you that you are too old for things.

Re: age..........
I am an older bride myself. I will be 39 when I get married in December!!! My feeling on being an older bride is this..It is MY wedding and I am going to do whatever makes me and FH happy. We will have some traditional things and some not so tradition. To me age is just a number and as long as your young at heart that is all that matters!!! It is YOUR day so wear and do whatever makes the 2 of you happy!!!! FYI on Bride Helping Brides there is a 40 and over thread!!

Re: age..........
I'm turning 30 on Saturday..and my wedding dress is a pink (ahem, blush) mermaid wedding gown with a giant bow in the front). You can see a pic in my album.
First off you are HOT girl!! As the bride you wear whatever the heck you want. That dress is amazing. I think the wedding dress is such a fantasy for any female, that sales lady is rude.
My boss got married at 38, wore a ballgown, and did a very soft Angelina Jolie'esque half up half down do. And she looked timeless and amazing.
As for age appropriateness, are you having BM's? I ask b/c my bridesmaids are all between 30-44 and I went with an 'age appropriate' dress color for them (which is like a silvery taupe). I think if your bridesmaids are over 30, I wouldn't stick them all in pastels. My BM's would have shot me if I put them in fuscia (which trust me, I would have loved to)..

I totally agree with Suzanner! 'F' that saleslady. I'd order that same dress at another shop just to screw her out of the commission and send her a copy of my receipt!
Planning a wedding and being a bride is not limited to those in their 20s or 30s. Wear what YOU feel beautiful in. The dress is amazing and you can totally carry it off.

Um, HELLO! You are TOTALLY HOT for 41!!!!!! You look awesome! I mean, it's how you got a hot 29 year old FH!
Funny thing is you are exactly like my cousin and his wife. Same age difference. She was 41 and he was 29 also. She wore a super gorgeous ivory strapless dress and looked FANTASTIC. You can pull it off! Don't feel like you need a dress to match your 'age'. Honestly, it means nothing. You can wear anything you want!
