Am I overeacting...

Re: Am I overeacting...

I think if you tell princess not to wear the dress it will become a huge issue. Just let her wear it....everyone will be looking at you, not some kid.

oh my goodness, no you are totally not overreacting. Princess should wear the dress that you 'the bride' picks out, and your fiance should handle his mother, you should not get involved.
As for the former sweetheart, she should not be there, and to be honest she should not want to be there, and I am sure he does not want her there. Your fiance should talk to his friend.
Unfortunately, you have all the stress, but these are things your fiance should be stopping.

why should the bride get to pick out Princess's dress? She didn't say that Princess was a bridesmaid... just that her dress was nicer than the bridesmaids' dresses.

If she is a bridesmaid, that's different, then she should wear whatever everyone else is wearing.

If she isn't, then I don't see the problem. It's just a dress - if it were white, that would be an issue. But it's just a fancy pink dress! The poor girl bought an amazing dress for a sweet sixteen that was cancelled... let her wear it! I'm sure she was upset she couldn't wear it for her sweet sixteen, so it would be a nice thing to do for her.

It's definitely not going to pull attention away from the bride. Nobody is going to care. They might complement her dress, but then they will turn back to the bride. It will be okay, you will be beautiful on your day and all eyes will be on you!

As for your ex... that does suck. I can see why you would be uncomfortable with that. But, either way, this is YOUR wedding, and that is where the attention will be. Just relax, it will be fine!

Here is a pic of my dress, and here is a pic of a dress very similar to that of princess'..it looks better in person, as with most designer dress'..

Your dress is stunning why are you so concerned with that girl's dress?

seriously! that dress is nowhere near a wedding dress. Your dress is gorgeous. I really wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think the dress is a huge deal. As long as its not white. Everyone's attention will be on you anyway....people probably won't even notice her.

As far as the ex-girlfriend, I dont think she should be there. You fiancee's friend is an idiot for even considering bringing her....what is he thinking? I definetely think FH should tell him absolutely not.

Re: Am I overeacting...

First let me start by saying your dress is GORGEOUS!!!!! I'm partial to that style dress because mine was very similar. If it bothers you that much, take your girls to a bridal salon, pick a designer, and then they can choose whatever cut they want. My MOH chose a different style because she doesn't feel comfortable in strapless. All the same color, different style.

Oh and the whole ex-girlfriend thing, that girl is psycho. If anything, she will look like a fool for being at your wedding. She should do the right thing and bow-out.

I think you should let her wear it. IMO she will be the one who looks silly, way overdressed for just a guest!

ETA I just saw the pic and if she wears that she will definately be noticed but not in a positive way. IMO no teenager should be wearing something that revealing!

if her pink dress resembles a wedding dress, she will be a laughing stock. let her wear it, more fun for you!

ETA: I just saw that she's a BM. so forget what I said above. I don't think that's right if she wears it. have you cosidered the possibility of changing your mind and having them all wear the same dress?

just remember, it is YOUR wedding. and you have a say in what your BP wears!

Re: Am I overeacting...

Let me just tell you that your dress is GORGEOUS!! I would never think her dress was more expensive than yours. Her dress doesn't look anything like a bridal gown, I'm actually really surprised that her mother would want her to wear that dress. It is way too revealing. IMO, her dress is not at all appropriate for a 16 year old BM, but she will in no way take away from the beauty of your gown.

As for the ex, I'm sure that would bother me. I would talk to FH about it and have him ask his friend to bring another date.

I agree 100%. That 'ex' should NOT be there. And your FI should handle that himself.

yeah princess is a BM but not my MOH and they are all wearing diff styles in pink...her dress costs more then my dress+all my BM dresses+all the tuxs for the GM, just to give you an idea...

Does princess' dress LOOK like it cost more then all the others. Tell your FH to talk to his mom about it.

Re: Am I overeacting...

you know what, one can easily say that you are over reacting because you are trying to control things that probably will not affect your wedding, but guess what- I would be the same way as you- freaking out! So would most women. First off, you absolutely have to put your foot down about the ex being there. That's rude and inconsiderate, makes me wonder if she was invited purposefully. But, do not be the one to say anything, it MUST be your FH to address the issue. Otherwise, you'll look like a jealous bridezilla (that's how men think, not us). Second, the only way to handle the princess dress is if she in the bridal party, then she MUST wear a similar dress. If she's not, though, do not worry about it at all. She's 16, she'll probably be in the corner all night talking to a few teenage guys or something. You know how it was when we were that age.

Re: Am I overeacting...

Ok, so I've read this whole thread, seen all the pictures, and wish to offer the following.

1. Princess is going to look like a little skank in that dress. She *will* take attention away from you, not because the dress looks more expensive, but BECAUSE THAT DRESS IS TOTALLY HOOCHIE. Tell her to wear it to homecoming, and to wear something age-appropriate to your wedding. Have your FH do it.

2. Your dress is stunning, but I understand your feelings about price of dress. My MIL's dress cost more than mine and I was P.O.ed. Mainly because she has all this money to spend on a dress, but none to contribute to her son's wedding. Oh, and she was rude about it to me too.

3. I'm sorry she had to cancel her sweet 16, but Princess has bad taste in clothing.

4. Your FH needs to talk to his friend, because I'm concerned about ulterior motives for him bringing this ex. Do you get along with this friend? Is this friend just that clueless that he doesn't realize how inappropriate it is for him to bring this woman? We invited a few of DH's exes, and one was even in the bridal party, but DH didn't really have any *serious* relationships with anyone before me.

5. The other girls are right, however, that your FH is marrying YOU. Take comfort in that.

You are NOT overreacting. All of these people are acting irresponsibly, ESPECIALLY FMIL, because why is she allowing her 16 year old to buy a dress like that?

Rose,
I will have to agree with everything you just wrote especially that Princess is going to look like a hoochie...That dress is actually horrible looking. Is she trying to be JLo or was that left eye for TLC? Anyway, my idea is to send your FI friend the invite without a guest that will solve all problems - hehe
By the way, your dress is gorgeous and you will be the center of attention that day...
Good luck..

whoa!!! I think i have to change my mind - i am not a fan of plunging necklines - especially if she will be standing on the alter in front of God and grandparents!!

maybe that sort of dress is appropriate for a sweet sixteen (i disagree but her father was okay with it) but i dont think the wedding is the time or place for it!

ETA: your dress is gorgeous and you will look elegant classy and phenomenal!!!

I totally agree your FH needs to handle this, Im sorry but that is just ridicoulous, and I would be pissed off too. ALthough I'm a biotch so I would call the Friend myself and tell him he better take another look into his little black book and find another date!

Re: Am I overeacting...

imo, you have nothing to worry about on both counts.

your dress is gorgeous and you're the bride. if anything, princess will just look silly but there's no way she would upstage you or your dress.

as for your fh's ex, he's marrying you, not her. why would people be paying attention to her, when you're the bride? if you're still really concerned, talk to your fh about it and let him deal with his friend.
