am I the only one?

am I the only one?

Not to offend anyone at all, believe me, I respect and love everyone here... so after that disclaimer,
Am I the only one who doesn't find it necessary to get all these 'little' things? Like personalized everything - matchbooks, stamps, cocktail napkins, whatever? Its just that they might not be that much $$ each, but everything starts adding up, and I don't think anyone really notices those things.....
Am I alone in this? Will my wedding not be 'personal' enough without these things?

Im totally with you on this one, although, I believe that once I have all my major verndors booked and all the details come together, I might want it eventually...but for now Im not even thinking about it.

No I agree. The only little thing that I am doing for is confoti, and we are putting pictures of all our close family and friends on the pieces of confetti. I figured everyone would appreciate that. But as for napkins, matchbooks, etc, I'm not doing that. I think it's nice if you do, but absolutely not necessary.

I'm not doing all the little personalized things either. I'm some DIY, like the petal cones and my FMIL is doing the bathroom basket and out-of-town gift bags for the hotel, but that's about it.

I considered making up my own menus, but the hall provides them and I'll just use what they give me.

No matchbooks, matching napkins, cry packs, slipper baskets, etc for me.

I think our weddings are all personal to all of us, regardless of what we do!

You know, if it weren't for my caterer doing personalized things, I never would have done them.

It just wasn't important to me. I didn't even do favors.

I did do personalized place cards with our picture on it. I thought that was cute and it was a recommendation from my calligrapher.

That was it!

I'm not doing anything with personalization stamped on it.
I am making a bathroom basket, probably out of town baskets, and MAYBE programs for the church (only because my mom wants to).

I know what you mean, Lauren. My mother kept pushing the personalized stuff on me and then realized that no one missed it at the wedding.

I did the napkins- BUT no matches or anything else- Just didnt feel like spending the money on it, and actually if I could go back I would not do the napkins either- it was one of those spur of the moment buys when I FIRST got engaged

I don't plan on doing it either. I would drive myself crazy trying to organize/order it, and I have plenty of other stuff that needs my attention right now. I'm not even going to do the slipper baskets, etc etc.

I'm with you. I go the low-key route. My opinion - it's the biggest day of my life - - not everyone else's.

I'm not personalizing everything with our names or monogram either. I agree, to get the matchbooks, cocktail napkins, etc is a nice personal touch but those were the lil things that went out the window when forced to work within a budget. Besides, I want to be careful about not going overboard and being 'showy'. I think our wedding is still going to be personalized bc of the personal lil touches that we are including such as writing our own vows and having a memory candle for FH's mom. There are a few DIY projects that we could prob have done w/out, like the cry packs, but I just wanted to do those bc I'd hate for people to be tearing and not have a tissue!

ETA: Btw Lauren, absolutely love your 'disclaimer', what a way to keep the peace!!

We're not either.

As far as I went was getting customized postage stamps.

Never saw the point of the matchbooks, napkins, etc. People know our names and what day it is, they don't need a reminder everywhere they look!!

the way to make a wedding 'personal' is to add touches that are 'you' if doing those things is not 'you' then it can't lend a personal touch anyway, so it would be a waste...do I make sense...

I guess I am saying, yes, of course you're wedding will be personal enough...with or without the chotchkies. and such (how DO you spell that word! LOL)

Re: am I the only one?

the only personalization we are doing on our wedding is our programs & menus...Other then that, I am not doing matchbooks or napkins...All those little things add up & we don't have the extra $$ to do it!

'you are not alone......I am here with you.....'

I dont have the time or money for them. The only thing I am doing is menus, programs, and maybe funny cocktail menues for the bar. I think it is a nice touch, just isnt me

Re: am I the only one?

I know what you mean. It is sooo easy to get carried away with the little things but I can understand why people love the little things b/c like you said, it personalizes it. I am doing a few little things like table cameras and bells on the table with cards telling the guests to ring the bells when they want us to kiss.

nope, we aren't doing anything like that here either. In fact for some reason I find it so tacky when it is done. Definatly more personalized things like the photo cube and some pics of us as kids. That's where I will spend my 'loose change' and spare time!

I totally agree with you. I didn't do any of that.
