We didn't . FH had met most of my family and most of his family is in Ireland so it didn't really make sense to us to have one.

I didn't. I was crazy at work when we got engaged so we thought about having one this summer ( we didn't really care either way but my mom really wanted us to have one) - but now I'm crazy busy at work again (I love my job ) so there goes that idea...

We didn't. I didn't see the point of it. My SIL wanted to throw one for us, but I really didn't want one.

I REALLY want one and FH doesn't, we've bickered and bickered about this endlessly, Yesterday I was just like can we just please have a little shindig in our backyard and he nodded ok, so I'm hoping he wont change his mind...lol
But I knwo plenty of girls who didn't have one!

We didn't have an Engagement Party either. I'm not even really sure why. All of my sisters & my brother & my cousins all had an Eng. Party. We got engaged in November 2005, so my mother said it was too hectic to fit it in between Thanksgiving & then Christmas & then New Years. So, you're not alone. I was kind of bummed out though. Oh well.

I didn't have an official party. Instead, we did a very small brunch -- family only. I wanted our extended families to meet before the wedding.

But here's something ironic: FMIL told me that I was being a pig asking for gifts at my shower (hello...I didn't ask. That's just what you do.) but yet, she said previously 'don't you want an engagement party so you get presents? You won't get any otherwise.' Needless to say, she was wrong.

IMO, the people that want to give gifts will do so whether or not you have a party.
