Am I the ONLY one who WANTS kids at their reception?

Honestly, I couldn't imagine celebrating with out my amazing nephews, neice, and FI's cousins. I can't exclude family. I guess I just adore children - I'm a teacher. Kids just make any event more memorable.


Where are my other ladies who are embracing kids at their wedding?

I know its a personal decision but I dont blame any parent (who is particularly close to the bride or groom) for getting upset if their kids are not invited to a reception - especially family members. Sure they should not hold a grudge either way but its a complicated issue and I think when a lot of us have kids we will understand more.


Am I alone on this?

we have told all our friends/relatives that they are more than welcome to bring thier kids. Nobody wants to, but we dont mind kids at all.

i agree......i cant pic my wedding w/o our daughter there! some ppl are looking at me like you are sooo nuts...but honestly in yrs from now when i look at my video and pics if i didnt see her id be more upset...nevermind shes the life of any family party and once my band starts singing that kid wont be off the dance floor!!!

I couldn't imagine not having my little cousins there either! It just wouldn't be the same! We're inviting the kids of our close relatives but not EVERYONE'S kids cause then it would just really get kinda out of hand. lol There's quite a few of those little ones on my side and his!

i think it all depends on how many kids there are to invite... we had kids at ours, but there were only 3 that were under the age of 5- the other couple were all older, like 11-12 who are in that stage where they just sit and mope around at the table- LOL, so none of the kids were a problem
BUT, my friend invited about 35 kids to her wedding, and it was HORRIBLE!! the kids were just running around on the dance floor all night, and literally none of the adults could dance- it was like a 5 year olds birthday party or something...
now, i'm a speech therapist at a school and i love kids, too- but i think too many is just too many at a wedding- LOL and i think thats why a lot of people don't invite kids....

I agree! FAmily kids are definitely invited! They liven up the place!!

I understand ... that can be crazy. I guess I just dont understand the 'no children at all' rule. I mean to not have nephews and neices I think is a little much but everyone is entitled to have their wedding the way they want.

Oh and 35 kids will NOT be at my wedding lol Im sure that was a lot to handle

I think its great if people want to have kids. I only included the children in my bridal party. I just have WAY too many cousins. theres no way I could afford it. Besides Im a parent and an elemetary teacher so it was nice to have a day without them kwim?

Down time is a good thing Im looking for a permanent teaching position for September. Do you know of any elementary/special ed. positions? haha or HS math for my FI? lol

LOL i know! it was NUTS! and most of them werent' family- she invited i think every kid she ever babysat for- LOL- it was interesting to say the least.... and to top it all off, they are super religious, so there was no alcohol either! LOL now, no alcohol is ok, and a lot of kids would have been ok... but no alcohol AND a ton of kids running around... NOT fun! LOL
but, shes absolutely obsessed wtih kids ( its beyond just liking them!), so it wouldn't have been her wedding if she didn't have any kids there...

we're having kids at our wedding...they're a big part of eugene's life (he has a bunch of nieces and nephews and younger cousins) and i wouldn't dream of them not being there..of course its up to the parents whether they want a night out without the kids or not but we are definitely inviting them

I am SOOO with you! I cannot tell you how irritated I am getting by people who feel they have the right to tell me kids do not belong at weddings!! Hello? It's a celebration, and kids/family are part of that!

It is a SORE spot. I understand when a bride/groom don't want to have kids BUT I cannot understand how they would expect everyone to be okay with it. If you are going to have a no kids rule then expect some friction - its normal. I hope parents act in a dignified and mature way about it as well even if it upsets them.

at first we said no kids, aside from the bp. but we changed our minds. we are only having cousins over the age of 10.

We had about 8 kids at the wedding, from toddlers to teens - they were all pretty well behaved - and they were super cute when they were dancing. I loved having my cousins there and I couldn't imagine not including them.

I am definately with you on having kids present. . .my daughter (10) is my MOH followed by FH's daughter (10) and FH's son (15) is his best man followed by his other son (13). I have also invited children from our family and my FG and her brother. One of the GM kind of surprised us by rsvp'ing his 2. . .but we figured what the heck. . . other than that we are limiting kids because otherwise we would have 10 friends of each of our children there 35 is kinda crazy. . .but I say Yay Kids!!

I am having kids at ours - the neices, nephew, god daughter of fh, and the ringbearer/flower girl. ALso, my second cousins, some of which are in early teens.
