...and Guest?

Original post by DanNette

Are you inviting single friends with a guest? If not, does this same rule apply to the single adults (meaning friends of your parents). Are you applying the 'if you're not in a relationship when the invitation went out then you won't be invited w/ a guest' rule?

A little twist...should the single members of the BP people allowed to invite a guest and only them?

We are trying to keep our guest list down...can you tell? I don't want to offend anyone.

We are doing everything you just said for that exact same reason!
No one that is single as of today is being invited with a guest except for the BP.

Most of my friends have significant others, but even if someone doesn't, I'm inviting everyone with a guest. I always hated being invited to a wedding and feeling like the bride and groom were scrutinizing my relationships to determine if it was 'serious' enough to invite me with a guest. I used to hear of brides who would invite a friend with a guest if the friend had been with their significant other for either a certain amount of time, or were living with them, or some other weird way of determining whether THEY thought it was serious enough to invite 'the guest'.

TOTALLY TOTALLY AGREE

I ALWAYS HATED NOT BEING INVITED WITH A GUEST, ESPECIALLY AS A GROWN WOMAN. PERSONALLY I JUST DONT THINK ITS RIGHT TO INVITE A GROWN MAN OR WOMAN TO AN EVENT ALONE (JMO - SORRY)
I HAVE BEEN PLANNING MY WHOLE WEDDING AS IF I WERE A GUEST, AND HOW A GUEST WOULD ENJOY THEIR TIME

Weirdly enough, right now all my friends are either married/in very serious relationships or are completely single. I would normally only invite someone with a guest if they were in a serious relationship since I already have a huge guest list due to my huge family. But I would also take into consideration if that single friends would be the only one in her group of friends that wouldnt have a date. If so, then i would invite with a guest. But if you have a group of people who are friends and are single then I think its different and I wouldnt invite with a guest. I dont think a blanket rule works

all adults over the age of 18 should be invited with a guest, regardless of whether they're with someone or not

i invited everyone with guest
i left it up to them to decided if they wanted to bring someone .our singles friends who were invited with guest ended up not bringing anyone

We did the same...almost all of our 'no's' were ppl who didn't bring a guest....

I think that it should be up to the guest if they want to or not - but they definitely should have the option - Once you dont invite a guest, you immediately eliminate them from most if not all slow dances and then wonder why people are sitting (JMO)

I think if you have the funds to invite everyone with a guest thats great, but if you dont than you dont have an option but to cut where you can

Ive been doing this with my list over and over again. Basically, if you are in a relationship you were invited with a guest. If it wasnt someone that didnt really know that many other people at the wedding, they were invited with a guest....if you were 18 and bounced thru boys/girls you were invited alone.

well...yes and no.

we paid for our wedding ourselves and had a daytime wedding to save costs. we did low CPs and i got my dress from davids bridal to save costs. we didn't get any extras--no chocolate fountain, VH, seafood boat, etc.

but as someone who has been invited alone to weddings, i made sure that we had the funds to invite everyone with a guest--even though most didn't bring one if they didn't have a serious significant other.

I am inviting everyone over 18 w/a guest, because I remember when I was in between relationships and it stunk to get a wedding invite when I was in my 20's w/out a guest. I just didn't go.

We did only because we needed more people....if we had enough people I am not sure who would have been invited with guest

Re: ...and Guest?

It's good to hear everyone's feedback! Thanks!!!

FH was invited to a wedding last year up in Albany, and he was invited solo. He explained that he had to travel 3+ hrs and get a hotel room by himself if he couldn't bring me. I had never met this friend (since he had lived in Albany) but he agreed to let me come but we had to lie to the bride and her mom and say we were engaged then. I felt kind of 'unwanted' even though there was about 300 people there, it was very nice of them to understand where FH was coming from. I think I like the 21 and over rule for guests. But there is still plenty of time to work on the guest list.

Also, a friend of the family got married and didn't invite people w/ guests, but the invited people rsvp'ed with a guest. He had to call them and let them know they couldn't add extra people, now thats awkward!

people are going to complain. I know the guest list can increase so fast but I'm inviting anyone college aged up with a guest. To know for sure look this up in an etiquette book.
