...and Guest?

...and Guest?

Are you inviting single friends with a guest? If not, does this same rule apply to the single adults (meaning friends of your parents). Are you applying the 'if you're not in a relationship when the invitation went out then you won't be invited w/ a guest' rule?

A little twist...should the single members of the BP people allowed to invite a guest and only them?

We are trying to keep our guest list down...can you tell? I don't want to offend anyone.

Most of my friends have significant others, but even if someone doesn't, I'm inviting everyone with a guest. I always hated being invited to a wedding and feeling like the bride and groom were scrutinizing my relationships to determine if it was 'serious' enough to invite me with a guest. I used to hear of brides who would invite a friend with a guest if the friend had been with their significant other for either a certain amount of time, or were living with them, or some other weird way of determining whether THEY thought it was serious enough to invite 'the guest'.

unforntunetly, I feel that if the person is old enough to bring a date.. i usually use the rule of 20 yrs + then i invite them with a guest, even if they may not be dating anyone. I feel it is unfair to invite people without bringing a comfort person haha if they want

My friends I told (BP or not) if it's not a serious relationship - like almost a year plus they can't bring a guest. I know it's harsh, but some people just want a guest. They're going to have other friends at the wedding, so it's not like they need the company. My cousins aren't bringing dates either under the same rules (they're my age). Older adults...I default to what ever my parents and in-laws say...

Anyone under the age of 21 (with the exception of my 18 year old cousin who has been with his gf for two years) is not having 'and guest' added. Most of my friends/his friends/our friends are in serious relationships. For me I took it as a case by case basis, depending on how well that person knew other people at the wedding.

I completely agree.

We wanted to keep our list down as well but every single person was invited with a guest. I would say unless they were in a relationship, 90% didn't bring someone with them. Our numbers were right where we wanted them and nobody as offended.

I've been invited places without a guest before (while I was with my DH- he was just m7 BF at the time though) and it annoyed me a lot. I spent a lot of money on her wedding, went to her shower in CT, bachelorette party, and then I couldn't even bring my DH to the big day. Friends of mine did this to our friends also. They were all really offended (especially the ones in the bridal party so if nothing else let them!). They felt that whether or not they were dating someone the option to bring someone was taken away from them.

My recommendation is to invite anyone over 18 with a guest. They will NOT all come!

Re: ...and Guest?

We invited everyone with a guest, I have heard enough people complain about not being invited with a guest to other weddings. Our friends are in their 30s, I figured they would use their best judgement, like I usually do (only bring someone if you are together with them or if you aren't going to know anyone).

Now, not everyone uses their 'best judgement'...

One of my friends from college is bringing a girl that I know and haven't seen in 10 years and haven't kept in contact with. This girl is flying in from Atlanta to attend my wedding, and just to attend my wedding... Two of my other friends are bringing a guest but, they don't know who the guest is yet. My wedding is in 23 days...

I would only invite the guest if this person has been in a long term relationship. Thats it. I wasn't about to invite the world to my wedding.

We would truly love to invite everyone with a guest, even if the guest happens to be someone we may despise, but unfortunately, resources aren't unlimited, therefore, some method must be implemented to aid in the determination as to who gets to tag a guest along:

1) Married - you get invited with your spouse even if we do not know your spouse, or we do not care much for your spouse (and we know at least one person with a spouse who is abusive... maybe we'll strategically position a marriage counselor at their table, hummm... and someone from social services ), .

2) Engaged - same as above

3) Single, but in a serious relationship - unfortunately, we will be the self appointed judges of this and will rule as fairly as we can.

4) Single, but not in a serious relationship or in any relationship for that matter - you only get to bring a guest if we are aware that there will be no one that you know well enough at the wedding to mingle with.

Well, there goes our scientifically tested method for determining who gets to bring a guest... lol...

Re: ...and Guest?

Oh, one other thing. If you are doing your guest list now and decide to invite only people with serious relationships 'and guest', people's dating status might change in the next year.

There are a number of people we invited who were 100% single last year at this time and now they are in serious relationships (one is even engaged) so be ready to add a few more people!

We went with the policy that if you're over 18, you're allowed to bring a guest.

My wedding party/bridal party were invited + guest, but not all of them brought a guest - it's all a personal preference for them.

i am inviting guests if the person has a significant other, be that married, engaged, or dating. If the person is not with anyone then no guest. i already have it up to 180 i cant possibly do more

Re: ...and Guest?

Me and Fh still have not ironed out this yet.
We really can't afford for everyone to bring a guest and we are counting on the people who have that option to use it wisely. Anyone who is not married and under 25 on our list are invited as family (mom, dad then siblings) so no guests allowed. The single friends we are close to and we can talk to (reason with) we have/will verbally inform them this is only if your in a serious relationhip. I know this is a bad et. but honestly its bad enough fh overtime might be cut and now i deff. have to get a second job to just pay for 100 guests we are inviting now (we hope only 80-90 respond yes).

Every wedding I have gone to a wedding with the exception of one I was invited as a family (mom & dad) and to be honest it was fine.

I think its to what you can afford and what you think is best for yourself. The wedding is about you not your guests.. they should be happy just to be invited.

i invited everyone with guest
i left it up to them to decided if they wanted to bring someone .our singles friends who were invited with guest ended up not bringing anyone

Re: ...and Guest?

If they are a family member and not in a commited relationship I didn't include a guest invite.

BUT for 5 of my friends that will know no one at the wedding other than my hubby and I, I included
on their invite one guest so they wouldn't feel so alone.
