Anniversary of Roe v Wade

Anniversary of Roe v Wade

There was a huge pro life march on washington yesterday. I have to say I really resent some of the language the right is using in this debate

There was a rabbi who was comapring abortion with homosexuality

and people kept talking about what abortion did to them, as if abortion is an entity unto itself, like a monster

Other language I did't like was comparing abortion to the state actually killing people. It completely takes the responsibility away from people. I honestly couldn;t march either for or against legal abortion. I don't think that's the issue. No one WANTS people to have abortions. if people didn't want or need abortions legality would be irrelevent.

Oh and 'feminist pro-abortionists' they kept referring to feminism as this evil... feminism doens;t begin and end with abortion, and it's scary to think that because then the pro life movement can just disregard all of feminism>

People were also saying that the right to privacy was invented and is not guaranteed by the constitution

Thoughts?

I didn't vote. There's a 'Yes' and a 'Yes, sadly' and a 'No, sadly'...but why 'sadly'? I say NO - it should stay and be left alone.

Compare it to whatever you want. Tell a 14 year old pregnant with her father's child due to incest that she can't have an abortion...or a rape victim. Of course these are extremes, and abortion should not be used as birth control (some people are pigs) but it's necessary in extreme cases.

I am unsure, though the thought of the law being overturned frightens me. I don't understand how law makers are so concerned with a fetus that cannot live outside of the mother's body, yet they don't seem to care about the child once it's alive.

The old, white men who are in congress can never know the experience of a young woman who makes this incredibly painful decision.

Beyond that, I really wish that the GOP would realize that if they funded sexual education programs and encouraged condom use, that the abortion rate most likely wouldn't be as high as it is now.

i find this a win lose situation...

abortion can be good say a women was raped but to have an abortion cause it was a mistake when i was in bed from a hookup to very wrong.

if you old enough to have sex, you should be old enough to know the results.

This is like an escape clause to do whatever you want cause it can be fixed.

prehaps if there wasn't abortion, it would make the US a more responseable place to live and making other tuff laws to prevent dead beat parents. why should a life die cause people aren't smart enough to know the results?

at the end, people will always be upset as we can't please every because the world has to be Politcally Correct and appeal to everyone.

I respect your opinion but it frightens me that anyone would label abortion as an easy fix or an escape clause.

It can't be OK for some and not for others. Abortion can be prevented through better education. If more money went to programs and more girls (and guys!) were taught about proper birth control instead of pumping money into celibacy programs (that are proven not to work!!) then maybe we could keep that under control. But to abolish it because some old fart thinks it's 'murder' it's ridiculous. Rape and incest happens all too often. We don't want to go back to the wire hanger days.

sadly, there are some who do - I knew girls from college first hand who used this escape clause - it is NOT a form of birth control!!!

I agree- it would be a huge step backwards for the womens's movement

I think it's really easy for a rich, white man to say it should be illegal- they should walk a day in the shoes of scared, pregant, poor 14 year old and then decide

I couldn't agree more with this!!! IMO most people who are pro-life never consider the life of the unwanted child who is born.

Consider Nixmary Brown...of course her situation is different because abortion IS currently legal and she didn't have to be born, but who can say that she's better off having lived? If Roe v. Wade were overturned how many more children will be abused and possibly beat to death by unfit parents who didn't want them in the first place? Or grow up to be the same kind of monster they were born to? Isn't it WORSE for a child to KNOW they're unwanted and to suffer this kind of abuse than for a child to never have lived at all? I think it is.

over turning roe vs wade will not stop abortion- did you see dirty dancing?

she had a back alley abortion and just about died- it's going to mean that the rich girls who get in trouble will be able to fly off and have the problem taken care of in another country and a poor girl will find themselves in the situation of some shady doctor- who uses unclean equipment and nearly kills them

any one who thinks b/c abortion becomes illegal and will go away is very native

but this goes back to education and why is a 14 year old having unprotected sex...

this isn't to say not all young childern know what to do with childern, i have serveral cousins that had babies at a young age 15...and they are doing great. it depends on the education, family and enviroment

and part of the problem is that it's called a women's movement. granted the female has to carry and adopt to the whole process, but who is to say at any point, i don't want to do this anymore of consenting with a male to bring a new life to this world. and why doesn't a male have a say in it when it's his alway when its consented?

that is true, i do agree with the notion that the world will be even worse off if it were overturned. what im saying is there needs to be a way to not 'depend' on abortion...

But just because you know someone who did that, does not mean that ALL women who have abortions do it.

exactly! Also while I do not feel they should be used as birth control, if you get preggo 'on accident' and have an abortion, I find that better than having the baby and not properly caring for him/her.

it's the same people who want to over turn abortion - that don't want to educate childern about sex-

I alway wish that Jenna Bush would come home to the white house prego- I would love to be a fly on the wall- I am sure she would have an abortion so quick

Let her get pregnant by someone not white...I bet she won't be keeping that child.
