Anniversary of Roe v Wade

Original post by marymoon

There was a huge pro life march on washington yesterday. I have to say I really resent some of the language the right is using in this debate

There was a rabbi who was comapring abortion with homosexuality

and people kept talking about what abortion did to them, as if abortion is an entity unto itself, like a monster

Other language I did't like was comparing abortion to the state actually killing people. It completely takes the responsibility away from people. I honestly couldn;t march either for or against legal abortion. I don't think that's the issue. No one WANTS people to have abortions. if people didn't want or need abortions legality would be irrelevent.

Oh and 'feminist pro-abortionists' they kept referring to feminism as this evil... feminism doens;t begin and end with abortion, and it's scary to think that because then the pro life movement can just disregard all of feminism>

People were also saying that the right to privacy was invented and is not guaranteed by the constitution

Thoughts?

I didn't vote. There's a 'Yes' and a 'Yes, sadly' and a 'No, sadly'...but why 'sadly'? I say NO - it should stay and be left alone.

the bottom line is that unless you are in this situaion it's very easy to sit in judgement and say I wouldn't do this and I wouldn't do that

I just don't like any of my rights getting taken away- I like having the right to choose- what ever I choose

Now that I am married my chances of having an abortion are about 0- I still think it's important to be able to choose

VERY WELL SAID!!!!!

It was accidental. I accidentally hit 'Enter' while I was adding the 5th choice which was goin g to be 'no, thank god'

I think when the president says (and he did a few days ago) that pro-lifers will prevail, he's hoping Alito will overturn it.

All I am going to say is after a certain amount of weeks, when most women already know they are pregnant and have had time to think about their options, it should NOT be legal unless the mothers health is at risk. Now woman should wait until the last few weeks of pregnancy and then decide to have one.

They still do late term abortions up until birth. If you checked out how and knew the baby could feel pain I think most of you would agree with me. Its the sickest most horrible, brutal act, and I can not believe we as humans do it.

Just my opinion.

i find this a win lose situation...

abortion can be good say a women was raped but to have an abortion cause it was a mistake when i was in bed from a hookup to very wrong.

if you old enough to have sex, you should be old enough to know the results.

This is like an escape clause to do whatever you want cause it can be fixed.

prehaps if there wasn't abortion, it would make the US a more responseable place to live and making other tuff laws to prevent dead beat parents. why should a life die cause people aren't smart enough to know the results?

at the end, people will always be upset as we can't please every because the world has to be Politcally Correct and appeal to everyone.

I respect your opinion but it frightens me that anyone would label abortion as an easy fix or an escape clause.

sadly, there are some who do - I knew girls from college first hand who used this escape clause - it is NOT a form of birth control!!!

But just because you know someone who did that, does not mean that ALL women who have abortions do it.

Yep - that is why I said I there are SOME who do - and not - everyone I know in the universe does it!!!

However, since I went to college with typical women, and not axe-wielding murderers, I'm assuming that there are other women out there in the world who do it too. Just some. Not all... Then there are women who have abortions for other reasons as well. Nothing I'm taking a survey on, thats for sure!

Because Judaism is one of those religions that has 8,000 interpretations for EVERYTHING. There's an old joke that if you put 4 Jews in a room you'll get a minimum of 5 different opinions.

Wow i had no idea, that must be confusing-I am not trying to be a smart azz I just never realized that the Torah was not the basis for Jewish law and that what was followed. But that is another topic-thanks.

well, just like the bible, everyone has their own interpretation! That is what makes religion so complicated!!!

the keeping it safe women is the issue that really bothers me- b/c abortion will NOT stop with the over turning of the case-they will just become dangerous

I have been pro life since I was old enough to know what abortion is, and I do know that most opinions on that will differ with me. Its something i've accepted but it doesn't make me against womens rights...or anti feminism like some would say. That actually upsets me. I feel very proud at how far women have come in society. It is a moral thing-and especially since becoming pregnant I'm more sensitive to the issue.

One thing will forever amaze me though...if you read anything on abortion, you'll see cold medical facts such as its just an embryo/fetus, cannot thrive outside the womb, etc...yet go on any pregnancy website and talk to women who are in their 6th week of pregnancy, have seen a heartbeat and they are naming that baby, talking to it daily and so in love with this little thing that is barely a human form.

I (personally) think it is all a mental state. It is an emryo/fetus and inhuman when not wanted, but a 'baby' when the time is right. Call me crazy, but this is my perception. I would never ever turn my back or think someone is immoral for their choice to have an abortion. It doesn't mean i think its right however. Just my opinion i wanted to add!

that was my point though...should we go back to the days of back alley abortions? so more women can die b/c the right to choose what to do with their own body is taken away from them?

and why is it that i always see old men outside the clinics?? do you have a uterus? NO, so stay out of mine...

I agree with you on so many points, but I'm still pro-choice. I couldn't possibly have an abortion myself now that I'm married and could find a way to make supporting a baby work.

But that doesn't mean that I think I have the right to choose for someone else, or to take away the option from someone who needed the option.

As is there are too many children in this world who need homes. I think it's more important to focus our attention on these children WHO ARE ALREADY HERE, living without families or love or adequate care or WHATEVER, than to pay so much attention to the women who know they can't care for a baby and are being responsible about that.

The waiting lists for adopting babies are rediculously long, I know. But you could adopt a 4 year old now. You could adopt a 9 year old now.

Why is it that fetuses are more important than actual living children?????

In my opinion, I don't believe that children are less important at all than a fetus. I think its sick how many children are not cared for in this world. And i do realize the waiting list for adopting babies is long. There are many many cruel realties of life. It does not mean that for one second i think the answer to the surplus of unwanted babies is abortion. Like i said before, it is just my own moral view. Many won't agree but I have met other very level headed intelligent women and men who agree with me. I am the last person to ever condemn someone else, i just do have a sensitive opinion on a topic where i'm usually in the minority. I do like to read everyones views and feelings, its what makes us all human :)

52% of all abortions occur before the 9th week of pregnancy, 25% happen between the 9th & 10th week, 12% happen between the 11th and 12th week, 6% happen between the 13th & 15th week, 4% happen between the 16th & 20th week, and 1% of all abortions (16,450/yr.) happen after the 20th week of pregnancy.

You should always know what you are discussing. Here are the statistics of when abortions occur. This is in the United States.

Thanks-I was just about to post this - in 2003 there were 1.5% or 19, 650 abortions performed at 21 weeks or MORE. Full term is 37 weeks.
