ok since we are on the topic of 'what if' with the tattoo thread ... would you ever consider divorce if it came to that.
my FH is from a very religious 100% italian family and they in no means consider divorce. His aunt and uncle seperated - no one spoke about it. FH feels that marriage is forever NO MATTER WHAT.
my feeling is, if things really got bad - divorce would be my absolute last resort. I dont condone it, but I wouldnt be opposed if things got to the point that I felt I was in danger, cheating other issues etc.
LIKE I SAID - some could find this controversial. Just looking for other's opinions!!!
poll for honesty!

I would do whatever I possibly could to get through it. I don't think I ever would. . .

If things arent working out now, Id rather break it off before I get married, so I wont go through wasting thousands on a wedding or a divorce
But if I was already married I would still get a divorce. IF I had kids then I would work it out
My cousin got married and after a year divorce, its a shame though

I agree with you....divorce should be a last resort. Couples should communicate and work things out--or possibly get counseling--if they are having trouble.

I have learned to never say never. If he ever laid a hand on me, I would divorce him in a second. If we were just having normal problems, I would try my hardest to work them through.

I'm not for divorce but it depends the circumstance. I told FH I'm not for divorce and we would have to work it out!

I do believe marriage is forever and the easy part is giving up. But I am sure it can be hard and sometimes there are things you just feel you can't forgive someone for

i would def try and work things out, counseling, whatever it takes to try and get things back to good, especially with there being kids involved. However, if it was just at the point of no return then yes I would consider divorce. Like god forbid there was abuse, or cheating or something that would just completely distroy everything, then yes I would def consider it

divorce should be the thing that is considered as an absolute total last resort--after you have exhausted all options and fought for the marriage.
i do think that in this day and age - too many couples treat marriage as something they can 'try' and if it doesn't work, they just get a little divorce and thats it. i don't feel that way, and i have utmost respect for the institution of marriage and i hope that DH and i will be in this to the end.
however, if there is abuse in the marriage--absolutely i think divorce is something to be considered sooner than anything!

Re: another QOTD - could be controversial
For me it depends on the circumstances. If he wakes up one morning and says that he doesn't love me any more or if he decides to try and beat me up, well then I don't think I could stay with someone who beats me or doesn't love me.

sadly two of fh's friends within 6 months separated and divorced. both situations are sad and probably should not have been married in the first place.
i personally don't believe in divorce unless there was nothing possible left to do. i believe that i have learned from fh's friends situations.

Re: another QOTD - could be controversial
i feel if you've exhausted every single opinion and there is nothing else to do to try and fix it, divorce is probably best, especially if their are kids.
kids are better off with a pair of happy divorced parents than a pair of miserable married ones.
im very catholic in that regard that as long as love is still present i'd do everything to fix it. FH is the same

100% agree
marriage is alot about communication and there is always ways to communicate and get through rough times in your marriage...everyone is going to have rough times but it doesnt mean you should allow those rough times to give you an excuse for getting out of it and divorcing. i feel divorce is an excuse...and once i am married i am committed...no matter what i will try my hardest to make it work. Divorce would only be the 1st option if 1. i was being abused 2. my children were being abused 3. he was physically abusing himself (alcohol drugs) and we could NOT after much much help get his health back to what it should be meaning he was just relapsing and relapsing. i dont think i would want my children to see their father many times fail at trying to get better!

i feel divorce is there as the final resort. if you've exhausted all other options, and things still aren't working out, then that's what divorce is for. if you're absolutely miserable in your marriage, i don't see why you should stay married, esp if you have children.
my parents divorced when i was 5, and it was the best thing for them and me. they were able to remain friends, but realized they were not compatible as husband and wife. they were able to stay friends while moving on with their lives. had they stayed married for my sake, and they were miserable together because the couldn't go on w/ their lives, that would have been a lot worse. children are very intuitive, and will pick up on any negativity in their parents' relationship.

Many couples believe that relief is spelled D-I-V-O-R-C-E but I feel different. I can't say that I will never divorce my FH but life has a way of turning curve balls at us. If I ever had to cross that bridge, divorce would definitely be a last resort and not the first.
