depends on the circumstances of course, the way most ppl probably feel...I definitely would not give up easily depending on what it was and would give my all to work it out first...but if we have tried everything and trying for a long time and i just didnt see any solution then yes i would get divorced. I dont believe in giving up too quickly but i also don't believe in staying in a marriage if you are truly unhappy, and in some cases getting out is the best option for the person

divorce is not an option period end of story. you can all roll your eyes now but it just isnt
and no one in either of our families has ever gotten a divorce
WOW nobody in either of your families ever got a divorce, that is pretty good
and thats perfectly fine if you feel that way about divorce, you dont need to justify that and who cares if ppl roll their eyes

Re: another QOTD - could be controversial
I would do whatever possible to work it out. I think after counseling and seeking all possible ways to fix it, if it weren't fixable after that, i would consider divorce. But it would have to be REALLY bad for me to even consider it

thanks! i know people dont believe me really when they hear it but we are going to be taking a vow before God and I think that is more important than living a fairy tale life sometimes ((although ideally I hope we get to experience BOTH))

i feel if you've exhausted every single opinion and there is nothing else to do to try and fix it, divorce is probably best, especially if their are kids.
kids are better off with a pair of happy divorced parents than a pair of miserable married ones.
im very catholic in that regard that as long as love is still present i'd do everything to fix it. FH is the same
sorry i dont mean to say you are wrong or anything but i did a 25 page paper for my BA in psych on divorce and whether or not it is healthier for the children to have 2 unhappy parents still married or 2 happy parents divorced. and well the statistics after omg i cant tell you how many research journals i went through said that its not always the case that the children are better off with their parents being happy and divorced. and i think it was almost 50/50 that it is better and it isnt.
just and little 2 cents incase anyone was wondering. i dont know what i agree with in this case but i just thought i would tell you ...but definitely not saying you are wrong or anything.

it is sad like somebody else mentioned above that so many ppl get married just to get married and see divorce as an easy option just in case it doesn't work out.

Re: another QOTD - could be controversial
Yea, it definitely depends on the circumstances. I wouldn't give up easily on my marriage but at a certain point if both of us were unhappy then I think the only way for us to be happy would be to go our seperate ways.
My uncle was married to his wife for maybe 25 years or so before he passed away 3 years ago. I think they had anything BUT a happy marriage. They had 2 kids together and that's the reason they stayed together. I mean my family would have completely understood if he wanted to leave her (she was aweful.) The family even accepted his mistress and welcomed her into his and our life. She was at my parents wedding and everything. He was the nicest, friendliest, most giving person I've ever met and deep down he was miserable because of his marriage. I think divorce is something that would have made his life so much happier...and his kids.

i understand what you are saying and of course i want my children to grow up in a healthy environment but i think that some ( not all ) people expect marriage to be this romantic fairy tale instead of hard work and i feel that there is nothing wrong with being 'content' in your life - i dont know if i am expressing myself properly though!

i completely understand what you are saying...i also do think that so many times a couple will have a bump in the road and just give up and i know that it can be hard and a tough situation but i just wonder if they thought it was going to be easy and that things like that wouldn't come up. Its funny but even during the worst of times when you think it just can't get better, things can get worked out and the thing is that when you do work it out it can surprise many to see that it made your relationship alot stronger

i have no intention of becoming pamela anderson lee...
BUT.. depending on the situation... i'd kick fh to the curb and then proceed to take 40% of his income and 60% of his pension..
that being said.. the ONLY situation I can think of that would make me go that route is physical abuse.. u hit me ONE time.. it's a wrap.. my brother and cousins will meet you at u'r job and i'll meet u at the courthouse..

Re: another QOTD - could be controversial
Well I for one was completely against divorse as well. Untill my marriage was a complete disaster. I got married way to young, IMO, I was only 22. I only dated him 1 and a half years. You can't possibly base a life time of happiness on a year and a half. Well I can't anyway. So you really never know what your gonna do until it stares you in the face. We didn't live together first I went from living with my parents to living with a control freak and I had no idea. So never say never.

Re: another QOTD - could be controversial
HELL NO for divorce for me... I held off until I found 'the one' and so did FH. We both know that marriage takes work and are willing to do what it takes! I am marrying FH because I know in my heart of hearts that he is the only one for me and we believe in our faith that marriage is a sacrement and it's only one time!
However, many of my family memebers are divorced/ have been and to each his/her own. No judgement on others, pending circumstances, it's just what FH & I want/ believe for us ....

oh i agree with you....i am not using divorce as a way to get out and escape ever. the only thing i would divorce over as i said before is abuse. you do NOT hit my child or me and that is what i would at least first seperate to see if he could get with the picture and get counseling for himself but
i dont think marriage is supposed to be all fairy tale like and there is nothing wrong with beign content as you said !!! i am not going to divorce bec my sex life is lacking or i cant stand how he picks his teeth you know i am going to work through it and i dont even think your love for each other is ALWAYS 100% strong throughout your marriage but that is why marriage is something you work on everyday of your life.
