FH mentioned he wants to put Black Tie on the invitations. I was shocked, i thought maybe black tie optional,
Can anyone tell me the pro's and con's of putting Black Tie on the invites? Thanks!

Re: Any Girls Having a Black Tie Wedding?
Even less would come to our wedding if we did that, Our families are lower middle class midwesterners, half probably don't even own a tie... BP will be fancy, thats all i care about

Re: Any Girls Having a Black Tie Wedding?
We are having black tie Sat night. I think most people get dressed up for Sat night affairs and not so dressed up for afternoon affairs. If you want to guarantee a specific attire than including 'black tie optional' is a good choice. This way noone is required to wear a gown/tux but that the party will be more on the formal side.

We are having a black tie wedding, but we are not putting it on the invites. People we are inviting to the wedding will automatically know(i hope), since we're having an evening wedding.

You could put ' black tie optional' this give the guests the options to really dress up . ( it tells the guests its a formal affair).

i dont think people will automatically know to wear a tux and gown if you dont say so.
wearing a tux is different than wearing a suit. they will have to go out and rent one if they don't own one (i dont think most men own one)
I have been to many evening weekend weddings and i have never thought it was a black tie event (since it was not written) I have always dressed up but my male family has always just worn suits and ties not tuxes

I agree, unless it said black tie on the invite i would never expect FH to wear a tux and he wouldnt either...Yes he would dress up and wear a nice suit but definitely not a t ux...Most guys dont want to look silly showing up in a tux and many also dont like them that much, so unless they have to they wont wear it

Definitely having a black tie wedding.. BUT not sure if we're putting it on the invites yet...I would hope everyone knew how to dress!!! haha
if it is not on the invites, people will not automatically wear a tux

Re: Any Girls Having a Black Tie Wedding?
i think that some people dont know that black tie means tux it seems like some people are saying yes meaning they weant people to wear suits to their wedding
just the impression i got reading the whole thread
black tie means tuxedo / gown - not suit and dress
