Hubby has a 02' Accent. Not the best car out there (pickup stinks) but it's held up remarkably well, considering it got nearly destroyed in an accident a few months ago. Super cheap too. Very small and gets alot of nasty window dings while driving on the LIE

I might be buying an elantra. My brother has had the accent the elantra and now the sonata. no problems at all. FH's aprents have sonatas and they SAY there are no problems, but to me it seems like they're ALWAYS in the shop. I'm rather conflicted myself. I just haggled a great deal on a jetta, but now I found out I can also get a good deal on an elantra b/c of connections..and the elantra is much more affordable

Re: Any Hyundai Owners here

My friend just got a 2002 Elantra GT and they love it. It had 10k miles on it and they paid $9500. We drove it to connecticut and it was such a smooth comfortable drive. We rented a 2003 Sonota in Florida a few years ago and it was such a nice drive. From the people I know that have hyundai's that are 2002 and newer, they have not had any problems. I know the 2001 and under did have problems.

As far as the Jetts goes....I would beware. VW's are known for Electrical problems. I used to work for VW and I noticed that all the mechanics and all the sales people drove other cars....That means something.

I just bought a 2004 Elantra (brand new) last year. I have not had any problems thus far (knock on wood), but I have only had the car for a year. For the money, it's not bad...I got a good deal though. I love the gas mileage (4 cylinder engines rock when gas is over $2 a gallon!), it's a smooth ride. I have antilock breaks (not standard) and traction control too. So far so good. Hustead Hyundai is a great dealership. They have a good warranty. Hyundai's have gotten better in the past years. To be honest though, after graduate school I am getting another car...not a hyundai...once the warranties start voiding out I don't want to be bothered.

ETA: If you are going to buy a Hyundai...do not buy used...the warranties are not as good and you don't know what you are getting. They are inexpensive (as far as cars go) buy new.

Yeah, the main reason I am thinking the jetta is good over the hyundai is because I know I'm going to be looking to rade in the hyundai (for a jetta) after the wedidng. So I figure, why not cut to the chase. Or maybe I can get a lease deal on a hyundai, then when the lease is up I'll buy the jetta

So why dont you just buy a cheap car now....like $3000 and under and then after the wedding you can get what ever you want....If you want the jetts, keep in mind the new model just came out....

Re: Any Hyundai Owners here

thanks scott..i know the new 2005.5 jettas came out, that's how I got a great deal on a 2005 (only 1200 more than an elantra).

For anyone considereing a hyundai, I fouhd out today (i've been researching all day) that the elantra received a poor rating (the lowest possible) for frontal offset crash tests. That really realy troubles me.

I'm SO confused

Scott, where can I get a used car that's reliable? I'm just so afraid of the process. Do you have any suggestions? If the car will last 2 years without much maintenance then a $3000 car would be GREAT but I'm afriad of getting another moneypit car like the one FH ahs now

WE have a 2003 Elantra... had it for over 2 years with no problems.

Re: Any Hyundai Owners here

Ok....You need to look around. You want a reliable car with lower mileage. You should stick with toyota, Subaru, Honda, or Nissan. If you want a more reliable car, then I would stick with one of the brands that I wrote in. American cars, and German cars are not the type of cars that you would want...especially since older american cars arent very reliable and German cars are just very expensive to fix.

If you can, FM me what type of car you are looking for, the most mileage you want, and if you are looking for an automatic or a stick. I will try to find something for you. I found my friend their hyundai Elantra and they have been very happy with it. Maybe I can do the same for you.

We had a stupid stupid expensive unworking pos tiburon 2003

It was sweet to look at. Nice to drive but god HELP you if it coughed the wrong way or blinked too hard.

I had issues with freaking FOG lights for crying out loud. THe issues with the repairs (replacement of the bulbs) you would have thought we were doing brain surgery!!

Then the day the car wouldnt start. They NEVER figured out why but unplugged our alarm, then later it did it again.

The upkeep was HORRID

NO ONE should work that hard to up keep a new car! My old 93 Mazda has NEVER given me anywhere near this much grief and I've had it since 1996!

The Tibby we had only 3 and a half painful years and I coudlnt wait to get rid of it

I'll NEVER even test drive a hyundai again.

Jim's other hyundai was a 93 excel and it was quirky too but later on in it's life but still didnt last nearly as well compared to my 93 and it had LESS wear.

I judge a car on it's upkeep and durablity to true wear and tear.
