Anyone been to DR ?

FH suggested DR to save on HM costs... Anyone been there? Is it a nice HM spot? What hotel do you recommend?

I've been twice....got sick both times from the water Didn't actually drink it, but they washed the food in it, and the ice cubes in the drinks, etc.

i went and i had an amazing time...i did not get sick either. we went to punta cana...i forgot the name of the resort but it was amazing..it was like small villas/houses in one big resort. we had our own pool and security guard. it had about 5 restaurant. the resort was so big that they have trolleys coming around every 5 minutes to pick guests up and take them around to other parts of the resort. highly recommended!!!

***it was the cheapest but nicest vacations i have ever been on

I went to punta cana about 4 yrs ago & it was awesome! All inclusive resort,,,weather was gorgeous. Sorry but Ihave blocked that part of my life out of my memory so i dont remember the name of the place

i went about 4 years ago (to punta cana) and it was great! If you are looking for an all inclusive then it is perfect. but if you want to go out and explore i would not recommend DR. when you go there you basically stay at the resort the entire time

if you go --go to punta cana. I ve been all over DR and punta cana is the best. I stayed once at the ocean blue golf resort and that place is beautiful!

I went to punta cana in november we stayed at the Excellence. It was so nice. I highly recommend the hotel. We only left resort 2x to do excursions. Otherwise you stay on the premises.

i'm with everyone else. I went to DR for a week and a half and we stayed in Punta Cana at a resort! It was beautiful. Best beaches ever and I'm not a beach person. I did get sick over there but it was partially my fault. I rinsed my mouth out with water after brushing my teeth a couple of times and that did not end well. But i had a great vacation otherwise.

I got engaged in dr! Love it! Check out NH Royal Beach resort in punta cana. Amazing!!!!!!! And brand new so super cheap!

I went to DR about a year and a half ago (its actually where I got engaged). We stayed at Iberostar Bavaro, it was beautiful. Great pool and the beach was amazing. It was a very affordable all inclusive. There was entertainment every night and fun activities on the pool and beaches and everyone that worked there was very nice. The food was ok plenty to choose from all the drinks you could want. The best part was the getting drink service while lounging on the beach. Definitely dont venture out unless you have booked an excursion and you will encounter some people trying to sell you things but it never got in the way of having a good time. If you are looking for a bit more luxury the Iberostar Grand Bavaro is amazing and it is connected to three other resorts (including the iberostar bavaro where i stayed) so you have use off all the other amenties of the smaller properties. HTH

Oh and do not forget to book an excursion to Saona Island. It was the most incredible part of my vacation there.

My sister went three years ago to the Paradisus. She loved it. The beaches in DR are beautiful. I went two years ago also. I stayed at the Occidental Grand.There's an Occidental in Aruba also. I heard the Occidental in Aruba is wonderful.My sisters friend had a great experience. I didn't have a pleasant experience at the Occidental in DR. If you want details, you can FM me. I hear there are many beautiful resorts.Look into the Paradisus and Iberostar.

The occidental in Aruba has the most horrible food I've ever had. That was really my only complaint about that place.

I know too many people that have gotten sick in the DR... It seems like a 50/50 chance you might get diarrhea for your trip.

Iberostar in Puerto Plata is super cheap and my mom went there twice in the past month!! We went last year before the wedding and it was great!

ETA that's the only place in PP I would go to. Otherwise, you have a better chance of goping to a really nice place in Punta Cana. I went to Dreams PC and it was gorgeous!!!

Crashing.... The DR has the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen.. that being said, I stayed at the Paradisus this summer for a destination wedding and had an AWFUL experience... The food was disgusting the whole trip, nowhere is air conditioned, and I got sick by the 3rd day and almost missed the wedding I traveled there for. The wedding was beautiful thought because it was on the beach. My advice would be to stay away from the Paradisus, and pick a resort known for good food (and dont brush your teeth with the water like I did )

It happened to me. Stayed at one of the iberostars. I've actually gotten sick every time i've ever gone (my family is Dominican). It's a beautiful place, you just have to be careful what you eat and drink. Wouldn't be my choice for a honeymoon but i've been there and not had the greatest experiences with the sickness and all.

2 years ago we decided to go to an all inclusive in Punta Cana instead of our usual cruise....biggest mistake of our lives! We stayed at the magestic elegance resort, and although it was BEAUTIFUL....the food with horrible and i got sick the first night! I would rather spend a LITTLE bit more and go on the cruise...my FH and I said never again will we do an all inclusive....our vacation are Disney or a cruise.

DR is beautiful. I'll FM you with a website forum just for DR vacations and any questions you may have about all the different DR destinations! (I'll send you an FM with the info). The most beautful beaches are in Punta Cana and Samana. It depends which setting you prefer. Samana also has a private island and is very remote if that's what you prefer.
