It was on the Nightly news last night. Some pharmacists refusing to fill perscriptions for the pill and the morning after pill because of their religious beliefs. Just curious what you all think.
I understand having convictions, but IMO you should do your job. If it bothers you that much then I think you should find a new line of work.

I was appalled. I was literally yelling at the TV set. My poor DH came out from studying to see if I was okay.

Then you shouldn't have been a pharmacist! W T F! You religious beliefs shouldn't get in the way of your job. Sounds like someone else I know.
Their license should be revoked! Afterall they are making a crapload of money!

I have to disagree...Why can't a woman just find another pharmacy?
I've heard of gyno's who refuse to do abortions because of their affiliations with Catholic medical centers...How is this different? Or is this as appalling to you?

OMG...if my pharmacist gave me this line of bull...OMG...I'd go off...
It's not like they're being asked to take the pill...they're simply being asked to fill a prescription...how does that even go against their belief?!?! ***?!?! Oooo...this makes me angry!!!!!!!

Re: Anyone else see the report about pharmacists not filling perscriptions for birth control pills?
I was thinking about it. First i thought well maybe the pharm can find a job in a pharmacy in a religious neighborhood, but that's no so easy, and then I thought the women could just find another pharmacy. I still think it's wrong. You can decide you don't believe in just about any medication and not sell it. So it's weird, and I think birth contraol and abortions are TOTALLY different. Apples and oragnes. A lot of women are on the pill not for birth ocntrol but for other health reasons, soo...

I think that's just as bad - no one else's RELIGIOUS BELIEF's should impede my legal rights.

Well put!!! How the F@*# does this pharmacist know what the Pill is being used for??
For example, I've been on different Pills since I was 14 years old due to painful and irregular cycles (sorry if TMI) and that was CERTAINLY not because I was sexually active and/or trying to prevent pregnancy
Let me add that even if I was using BC at 14 years old, I find it amazing that in this great country of ours ANY woman is being denied BC when she has a valid prescription to have it filled..

I would never go to a Catholic medical center if I needed an abortion. The medical center has a religious affiliation. As far as I know Duane Reade/Rite Aide/K-Mart, etc. Are not affiliated with any religion. I should not have to find another pharmacy. The person should do their job. IMO it is like a bartender saying that they can't serve you alcohol because in their religion alcohol is illegal. I didn't go in the place for a lesson in righteousness. Just give me what I can legally obtain.

Note: I wasn't even saying that abortions and BCP are the same...I was just comparing what these pharmacists are doing (something in the name of their beliefs) to something that gyno's do (something in the name of their beliefs) It could have been anything...The fact is they're doing it in the name of their belief.

My suggestion (or guess) would be that pharmacists with these beliefs probably wouldn't be able to sustain employment within such corporations...Perhaps these claims are coming from privately owned businesses...

Then the pharmacist should open up their own pharmacy and not work in a pharmacy chain.

Is it not illegal to withhold drugs from someone with a valid prescription?
