Anyone else see the report about pharmacists not filling perscriptions for birth control pills?

Original post by heidla

It was on the Nightly news last night. Some pharmacists refusing to fill perscriptions for the pill and the morning after pill because of their religious beliefs. Just curious what you all think.

I understand having convictions, but IMO you should do your job. If it bothers you that much then I think you should find a new line of work.

Where is this happening? Is it a chain pharmacy?

Is it not illegal to withhold drugs from someone with a valid prescription?

Agree it is not illegal.. and I do think it is privately owned pharmacys denying these scripts.

I have to disagree...Why can't a woman just find another pharmacy?

I've heard of gyno's who refuse to do abortions because of their affiliations with Catholic medical centers...How is this different? Or is this as appalling to you?

I agree that you shouldn't go against your own beliefs when doing your job. You should never compromise your principles.

However, I wouldn't expect a pharmacy that refuses to distribute the pill to stay in business very long.

Bottom Line here is...... It is your Job. You have to do things you don't like but it is your Job.

I don't think that's the bottom line.

Not for nothing... but if my FW asked me to fill a perscription for her and a pharmacist told me this BS...

I would immediately have to open the can of whoop-a$$ on her (verbally of course).

Isn't that what the Nazis who killed Jews said? They were just 'following orders', and 'doing their job'. I bet they didn't like it, either.

That is the bottom line. If your job is to fill perscriptions... then do your job. If anyone wants to deny the person the percription... let the doctor do that.

But if you have a perscription... you have a MEDICAL reason to have it. The pharmacist has no say over it.

If pharmacists are allowed to do this... then why should it stop at birth control. Let them not fill an accutane perscription because they heard accutane causes people to kill themselves. Or let them not fill a dietary suppliment because they feel that everyone should WORK (ie: work out) to lose their weight and not take the cheap way out.

If you can't take the heat.... get out of the kitchen.

This is clearly not the same thing as refusing to do something for religious reasons...

JMO - if your religious beliefs prevent you from performing your job, then you should not be in that line of work!!!

I just wanted you to reread since you read it wrong. And you Agreed with something that she didn't say. I didn't think we were in 5th grade anymore and by me typing in caps it was the end of the world.
