Anyone feel too young...

Original post by sandybeaches115

Before I got engaged I was so ready to be engaged and I was thinking about marriage all the time with FH. I mean when I met him, I instantly felt that this is the one I want to be with forever. Lately, I've been feeling like i'm too young to be planning all this (or it may be thoughts from other people making me feel this way)....do you guys think this is normal to feel? Or have any of you felt like this during your planning? It may be just that there is a lot going on in my life right now that is getting to me. I'm in my 3rd year of medical school (so is FH) and we would be getting married in the middle of our 4th year. We will both be 25 by the wedding. Are any of you getting married while still in grad school?

thanks!! just needed to vent a little :)

She's a total attention seeker....I wish there was a way to delete someone's comments from a thread you start (like on the facebook wall).

Anyway, I don't know about there being a 'right' or 'too young' of an age to get married. People in their 'teens...are often encouraged to wait a few years (or so my priest told me) but other than that who is who to judge maturity and stability? I know LOTS of 30 somethings who are a hot mess and lots of the interns at my Bank who have their act together.

To each, their own!

How is it that so much drama initiates from one person???? Its ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS....oh shoot sorry, I used caps.

WELL I THINK THAT THIS PERSON SHOULD CHECK HERSELF BEFORE SHE RESPONDS TO THREAD AND SHE SHOULD REALLY THINK ABOUT HOW SHE PHRASES HER OPINIONS BECAUSE WHILE EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINION, YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO BE INSULTING AND A JERK ABOUT IT.

Oh sh!t I left the caps lock on....

you said CHECK YOURSELF!!! LMAO! sorry today must be a day for old sayings!!!

as far as leeserd's post goes... I kinda see her point, there is a reason why there are statistics... just because she pointed it out doesnt make her a bad person... and it was also solicited... whether she is a drama starter or not, i dont know, i havent been posting on here long enough...

not saying she should tell people to not get married because they are too young...

I think it's more of a matter of assuming way too many negative things about people that you don't know... then ontop of it some posts come across as nasty! Sometimes you need to be a little careful of the things you type on a public forum because you can come across in a very bad way! And some people seem to take longer to learn those things. OR maybe she knows it and likes to be that way! Who knows? Who cares? I just know I'm tired of hearing and reading about it!

Re: Anyone feel too young...

I am just finishing my Master's in a few weeks but have been engaged since April 08. I'm only 23, was engaged a month after I turned 22, but FH is 27. I thought I'd get a lot of crap from family and friends about my age, but surprisingly, I didn't.

I am having fun though, I am really the first of my friends and family to get married! So everyone is making a huge deal and it's fun for me! hahhaa

Us and our FH's are almost the same ages!
Yay!
I thought I would hear a lot of comments about being 'too young' too but I have not heard one! I guess the people who know us know that we are mature enough to be in a marriage.

Re: Anyone feel too young...

When we got engaged I was in the process of completing my MBA and it was definitely difficult to do planning and studying, so I can only imagine how hard it is with medical school on your plate. FH is now in grad school at Yale for a Masters in Engineering and it just works out perfectly that winter break is during our wedding and honeymoon.

I think its perfectly natural to have those feelings. It can get very overwhelming. Just try to focus on one thing at a time.

Age is just a number! I was 37 when FH and I met. He proposed a month before I turned 40 and I will be 41 when we say 'I do.'

There are days when I feel like we're too young to get married (he's 42)!

Stop worrying about what people will think. Opinions are like ***holes - everyone's got one.

Wow--funny chain of comments but I really don't think (or at least I hope) nobody meant to sound mean or condescending...anyways, I think you are pretty amazing for trying to plan a wedding with so much going on (medical school, etc). I don't think it has to do with age or being 'too young', it is a lot of things for anyone to think about and being in school just makes it crazier!

I am definitely not 'too young' to be married (I'm turning 29 soon) but I get overwhelmed a lot with all the planning because I work crazy hours and have to cancel appointments with vendors all the time because of meetings or deadlines.

On the 'age' issue, I didn't meet my fiance until I was 27 and I can honestly say I was not ready to settle down before that! Maybe it had to do with not meeting the right person (I like to think of it that way) but I just wanted to be single and have fun so people definitely mature and meet the right person at different times!

Re: Anyone feel too young...

I was always a believer about not getting married too early. Sorry but everyone I know who got married before 30 is divorced. HOWEVER the common thread was they were dating for a little time before they got engaged.
I just feel , at the ripe old age of 41, that the 20's is when you do a lot of changing and shaping of who you are. If that person hasn't went through some of the changes with you and is on your level, per se, it can be disasterous. I was not ready to get married until about 32 but, that was me (didn't work out for other reasons)..

This of course is just my opinion from experiences.

IMo I think its ok to worry. However, I dont think age determines much more than a number . DH and I were 25 when married and had been together since 15 and 16. I think you are ready to get married wen you can make that commitmnet to one another and stay true to your vows. Our parents all did it younger and I know so many old couples that lasted.. Good luck

I feel too young sometimes, but not because I actually AM, but rather that I'm just a victim of circumstance. I'm 24 now, I was engaged at 23, and I will be just over 2 months away from my 25th bday when we get married. FH on the other hand is 28, was engaged at 27, and will be 29 when we get married.

However, both of us live home, and never went away to school, just commuted. We don't have the experience of having to take care of ourselves. I'm a little more self sufficient though...if no one is around to prepare lunch for FH, he won't eat. Clearly, we are not real adults, and should not be getting our own invitation let alone be getting married

Honestly, I think it will be a big adjustment for us because we haven't been on our own and had many life experiences yet, but I also think it's normal to feel that way. Besides, you can only get divorced if both of you sign the papers, and I'm not signing, so there goes that theory.

i love this

i was 22 when we got engaged, and ill be 23 when we get married fh was 22 when he proposed, and hell be 24 when we get married

he proposed 2 months into my MA which i completed in a year

i think age is irrelevant in getting married-i know leesard prides herself on her independence, however i know plenty of people who are twice my age and half as mature..

i think culture plays a role in it as well-im from the south and 90 percent of people get married VERY young by ny standards-my cousin just got married and she was 20..my other cousin got married at 19, and my parents were 19 when they got married-so by those standards im actually the old fart

i also think its absurd that people need to quote statistics for everything-since a certain poster always causes drama ive refrained from responding to any post of hers..

i wonder if theres any statistics about stuck up snobs that feel the need to be obnoxious and rude and their divorce rates..

I have felt like this a couple of times but it's when the FH and I get into an argument or something silly like that. When we are married, I will be 21 just 5 months shy of 22 and FH will be 23. I feel like you're the only one that can truly know and it's not up to someone to dictate your life. FH and I have been through so much throughout our relationship and are planning a family so it only seems right to get married at this point.

A marriage isn't and hasn't stopped us from doing the things we always planned, instead it helped push us. We're both going back to college this fall, together, and are planning on helping each other. We both work and we already live together, so a wedding and actually being married is just the icing on the cake for us!
