Is anyone getting one or thinking of getting one???
Right now it's not an issue cuz i have some $ in savings and 1 stock but god knows what that's worth that this point (went down from 25-10k last time i checked. I refuse to look at it anymore). But nothing really really substantial yet.
BUT, somewhere down the road i will be coming into a good amount of $ from inheritances. I read in some magazine that if this plans to happen getting a pre-nup would be a good idea.
I don't really believe in the whole jinxing aspect of it. In a way it would also protect FH a little cuz i have school loans and he doesn't so god forbid something happens to me he won't be responsible for them. (right?).
So yeah.. anyone else thinking of this?

Not doing one, and even if FH asked, I would never. I have my own personal opinions on the subject.
Like someone else said, whats mine is his now and vice versa.
ITA with this response! I don't believe in pre-nups. A pre-nup to me makes you look at the marriage like it's a business. But then again, all situations are different so I can't totally knock it for the other person.

Money money money, it makes me sick to my stomach, lol. It sounds like in your sitution getting one is not such a crazy idea, maybe you should go get more inforMation and discuss with FH. In our sitution my parents did not completely give FH there blessing since he does not have a good job, which i found out later, and i think this is crazy money comes and goes, just look at what happened with the econmy. I personally make double(and i dont make a lot) what FH makes and to be honest he dosent know, i handle the bills and we split our bills we have togeather in half. I also think people do not know how much money you have unless you tell them. I worry everyday that we will never be able to be homeowners because we make so little and then i think once we settle i will go back to school for my masters, since we are in no rush to have children. You have to go with your gut!

I'm going to be the oddball here and say that I WANT FH to want a prenup and he's totally against it. When I moved in (after we got engaged) I had a fair amount in savings and a good job, as did he BUT he has a business, several additional salaries, a house with a lot of equity in it, three cars, a boat and other personal watercrafts and junk like that. I don't even have my car anymore because he bought me a new car as an engagement gift and if we ever god forbid...you know...I wouldn't want anything...but I don't think he'd believe that and I would never want him to stay with me out of fear of me 'taking half' or anything like that. I always want to know that he's with me because he wants to be, everyday by choice. My mom will say 'you went into this with nothing, who cares' but that's not true, I came into it with a lot, I just didn't have an excessive amount of personal property. I do stand to inherit quite a bit and that's fine, I do feel that everything is 'ours'. But when he wanted to refinance and put my name on the house I said no because it may be our house but I didn't put anything into it for the first year and a half.
So I'm sure I stand alone saying I want a prenup but not to protect my own @ss but so that I know that he never feels stuck.

nah We both own. I told him I wont go after yours, don't go after mine. We don't have much of liquid assets so that's not a problem. We verbally agreed. I am not doing a will because if I die, I want him to get it all...

We have not discussed this. But we both make around the same salary and we dont have a ton of money in savings or own any homes so I don't see it being an issue if we divorce we will just split it all. Neither of us have any debts either...

Please dont hate me but i think EVERYONE should talk to a professional about doing one.
NO ONE gets married thinking they will get divorced and NO ONE thinks they will ever hate a person they love but look around at the world we live in, it happens!
If you stay togetehr and everything is peachy then its just a document that collects dust but if something ever happened and one of you decided to get spiteful, you could and legally would be allowed.
Just be smart. its WAY easier to deal with now than down the road if you ever have to...

hmm I am a lawyer and so is FH so maybe our opinions are tainted as a result of seeing and reading about some very ugly splits-think of how arguing over money could affect your child, future friendship and other family relationships. FH and I both love eachother to death and do not forsee spitting up but we are getting a prenup...neither of us have any money now but have good earning potential. Mikes bride is right about inheritance...in splitting assets any money either spouse inherits is not factored in...Adrian I am not postive because I am not a divorce lawyer but I dont think it matters what state the money/property comes from..I think the law of the state where the couple is married applies..but aside from inheritance you never know where your life will take you...I would advise every couple to get a prenup

Us...well we talked about it b/c fh is planning on starting his own business so i can see from that standpoint and then when my parents die i will inherit a good amount of money so...it's an idea that we discussed but never came to a final decision about so at this point..prob not

Well since we have nothing we don't need one...anything we earn in the future we will split
It kinda freaks me out to hear 'future inheritence' I don't think it's good to plan for relatives to die and leave you money...whatever happens, happens
HOWEVER we did decide whoever is the one who decides to leave has to give up our cat

It's funny you girls say this I tell FH all the time 'Whats yours is mine, and whats mine is mine' we always laugh
I have absolutely nothing except for my 401K which is not a huge amt of money. But FH on the other hand has 2 houses and a bit of savings and stocks. I asked him about a pre-nup and he actually got mad at me and refuses to get one. OK by me!
I forgot that I even have a 401k! I guess thats good?
