Don't move to FL then. You just described it to a tee.

is there a reason why you were with all of these people that you seem to have nothing in common with? maybe if you surround yourself with more down to earth people, you won't be so down on Long Island because although such people are stereotypical of 'LI', you shouldn't want to leave because of them. There are materialistic and superficial all over the nation. You need to seek out people who are more like you.

Funny you should ask this question! Thank you! Actually, we live in huntington, which I love - ALL of our friends there are, yes - from LI, and down to earth, as you pointed out. We love them dearly. however, they are younger, single, and most are artists and musicians... We have careers, and obviously are getting married, so I can't relate to them in all areas of my life....

The get together I was at - believe it or not - was at a yoga studio grand opening that FH will be teaching classes at... SO - my natural understanding was - wow - there will be all these down to earth, wonderful people there. BOY - was I mistaken - I never saw such plastic people in my life. I think that disappoinment led me to this post...Also, my stepsister tries so hard to be a part of this lifestyle, and my stepsister who died also tried to be a part of this. They are/were both miserable... how sad for them.

I'm not sure if you read my other posts - I am not looking for more people like us at all - that would be annpying! I have my friends I love dearly. If you read my posts, I lived in Vemront, and there were plasticy peolpe there too - and, of course - people who were down to earth that I surrounded myself with. I have a lot of people in my circle - plus, I am happy being alone too - one of those roll with the punches kind of gal. And I'm not judging anyone, which people I think mistook me for doing, which is understandable because hey, its a chat room, and no one can hear my inflections or see my face, and these things happen....

I'm not leaving to get away from LI. If that were the case, I never would have come to LI in the 1st place. We are leaving because reality is telling us that there is no way we will be able to afford any more family here. Plain and simple. Its a tough decisions that we are doing our best to delay because that would mean separating FH from his children, which I don't want to happen. I don't want to separate myself from some of my family as well. But, such is life.

Ladies - I'm wondering from these posts if maybe I'm STILL not being clear in what I'm asking, and maybe I confused you or misled you in some way? I feel that the point got lost, or maybe you aren't reading my multiple responses consistently addressing this over and over again... Please - scroll up, and read what I wrote. Chances are, you weren't at this GTG, and I'm not referring to any of you guys! OPlease don't take this stuff so personally - be comfortable with yourselves, and be happy with yourselves! Love yourselves!

Have a happy and postive view of the world, as I do and love so many poeople that I meet... Be kind to yourselves and to each other! (Woops - is that from Jerry Springer??)

love to ALL my fellow LI-ladies!!!

Although I appreciate you later posts; you should scroll up and read your initial post. With a post like that you can't be shocked by some of the responses you've received. I hate to say (not really: ), but I told you so!

i guess i'm one of the few people who didnt take your original post so seriously. seems like many people jump at any opportunity to get 'offended' which is FINE i'm just a little less emotional. I get what your saying lipgloss. Anyway, I have to go now ... need to go for my breat augmentation consultation.

i figured you were already big when you were a baby, and that is why there is a picture of you toppling over....

Re: Anyone here just not want 'The American Dream?'

I feel like I have already accomplished so much of the American Dream!
FH and I own our own company (that we would LOVE to see grow into an actual source of income!!!).
I would LOVE to be a stay at home mom, but it is more important for me to stay on LI, so at this point, it's not going to happen.
FH and I want 2 kids, and we want to start as soon as we're married. I want a house, eventually. I think we may start with a condo.
I am not averse to surgery, though. Not that I can see myself getting it, but if I ever wanted a breast lift, or a tummy tuck, there would be no moral apprehension keeping me from it!

I must add:

I don't look down on people who reap the benefits of plastic surgey however I do think some over use it in hopes to find happiness that they never quite grasp. I doubt I would get myself altered in anyway but who knows. My sister in law got implants after her 3rd child because she was mortified of her small sagging chest. She got very small implants and I have to say they look pretty natural but she did it because she could barely look at herself in the mirror. I guess everyone has there own reasons. Looking like a playboy bunny doesnt bring satisfacation if your unhappy on the inside. Although I do get a kick out of the show about hugh hefners girlfriends. I love Holly - shes so cute.
