Re: anyone NOT DO out of town bags??
I think it's just another expense that can't be afforded. I don't think any OOT guest would feel that you should.

I didn't do them. Seemed like a waste of money. Most were only spending the nite, so leaving maps and points of interest wasn't necessary.
Good luck, Donna 10/5/03

We aren't doing it either. Have a bunch of OOT's but, can't afford the extra expense. We are cutting as many unnecessary things as possible!

Re: anyone NOT DO out of town bags??
I didn't bother doing them 'cuz we live in Manhattan and our wedding was in LI and we don't have a car and would have been too much work to coordinate. OOT guests had the option to stay in a hotel in Manhattan or in LI at hotel near the reception site.

We did them, and honestly it was a nice touch and everyone appreciated it a lot. But if you can't afford it, than don't do it, it is not necessary. I made them and they were pretty cheap. I bought bags at the dollar store and I bought some hard candy from the dollar store as well. Then I went to BJ's and bought a case of water and a case of chips and a case of mixed cookies. I made 20 bags and it cost me less than $100, actually much less. I put two bags of chips, 2 bags of cookies, some candy and gum, two bottles of water, and I tossed in a pack of tylenol.
Great idea to go to BJs for the contents of the bags! I'm making bags but I'm not expecting too many OOT guests to be staying in the hotels rooms I've blocked. I'm expecting more of my friends to reserve the rooms because they'll be too drunk to drive home!
