Just wondering about this, I don't think I really like that tradition, anyone else opted out of that, I think it's a little uncomfortable for the girl who catches the bouquet and the guy who catches the garter to do that whole thing. You know what I mean?

Like many of the ladies... I'm not doing a lot of the traditional things. I'm not doing the garter toss or the bouquet toss. I have given my DJ strict instructions that I don't want any dance along songs like the electric slide and the macarena either. . .
I just feel like I want my wedding to reflect what I like, why should I comply just because that's what has always been done?!

I will wear a garter but no toss. Still want to give one away.
I will not toss my Bouquet but I will give one away. Not sure how or to who.
It's pretty cool where the traditions come from and I am looking for symbolic substitutions.
Boquet and Garter toss (I have read) became a tradition from times when a newly wedded couple were chased to the bridal suite prior to their first night together. The groom would throw the brides flowers and pieces of her dress, I guess maybe a garter or some of the lace to slow down the persuers. There's more to it but that's the jist. Now it's pretty much outdated.
I am among you that have responded and are uncomfortable with the tradition and I am looking for substitutes. Not a fan of the anniversay dance.

Wow, I see a lot of people are not doing the Garter, I didn't even think about not doing the bouquet, but now I might just skip that too, since there won't be to many single ladies out there, but we'll see!!
