At first I did not want a video either. But, after thinking about it we decided to get one. It will be nice to have it to show our children and grandchildren someday. The day will go by so quickly and in such a blur, but the video will last forever.

We felt the same as you. I changed my mind early on while FH took a little convincing. The way my cousin put it to me is that she has a video with her grandparents on it who are now both gone. SHe said, I have pictures but the video brings them alive. She also said that her little girls (4&7) take it out all the time and watch it (w/o her knowing) so she had to move it.

I found a very inexpensive one and I am so happy to have him document our day. Think about it.

We decided late in the game to get a video (4 months before the wedding) because I was afraid I might regret not having. I wanted to see me walk down the aisle and watch our first dance. Plus I knew based on what I have read here a million times that the day will fly by! I wanted to be able to watch it again and slow it down to soak it all in.

Then this was the clincher - someone mentioned having walking and talking memories of people close to us so we will have them when they pass. I read this after burying 2 very close family members and my decision was made right then and there.

We booked Candelight (an LIWedding vendor) - they were a pleasure to deal with prior to and during the wedding. I literally saw our videographer 3 times during the day - once when he introduced himself, once when he said good bye and he came over to congratulate us after the ceremony.

This is one of wedding loose ends that we need to tie up so I don't have a final product yet.

If you are not sure about the expense, there are some video companies that offer only raw footage (unedited tapes) and others with minimal bells and whistles that will keep the costs down.

We are going to have one of the guests video tape, why spend all that extra money on graphics, you could put that towards your honeymoon or something else that is necessary, as long as we have some type of video I'll be happy. good luck

I originally wasn't going to get a video...I thought it would be great to save money and I hate cameras (still do...can't stand to watch myself..)

but then a friend of mine (I may be the one christine was talking about) told me that still pictures don't capture all of the same feelings from your loved ones...to see the talking and moving means alot...

I immediately thought of my father who had me at an older age and how my children could see him if he wasn't around...

my friend's grandmother (who gave me the advice) just passed away last week and she said she has been watching their wedding video and remembering all the good times...


also I must say most videographers don't use big lights anymore...its not the barmitzvahs and sweet 16s of our generation...

I used wild rose and I can't wait to get my video...soon :) but I will second and triple what everyone has already said about them... they are fabulous...

marie was so soothing getting ready and bill gave me the best advice that kept me calm the day before and at the wedding...

Ladies - can I offer some advice?

One of FI's friends got married and didn't want to 'pay' for a video. Instead, the couple handed a video camera to the groom's sister and asked her to videotape. The sister, not being a professional (and wanting to enjoy the wedding herself), missed a lot of the special moments. To this day the couple is disappointed and annoyed at the sister for missing some things!!

So if you're going to have a friend or family member tape it for you - please remember that you're putting a burden on that person and that they're not a professional

I almost didn't get a video until someone convinced me I would regret it. Anyhow- I went with Bellarino, who was soooo nice and so reasonable. His work is great!

Take it from a newlywed who didn't get one, I regret it! I had 2 friends do amateur videos that were invited to the wedding and they missed important things (not their fault since they were enjoying the day as well). So after seeing these 2 very quick videos I regret not doing a professional, honestly...when your parents are gone, it would be so nice to see when your Dad dedicated a song to your Mom as surprise like my Dad did. I did not get that on video. I was torn on whether to do it and we thought it was a waste of $, I simply regret that.

Edited to say that I read Karen's response after I wrote this, I totally agree with what she said as well. Definitely hire an outsider who is not invited to the wedding to do it if you don't want the professional video. The amateurs was great for us but just didn't include ALL the special moments.

I'm having a videographer at the wedding because I know I will regret not having a wedding video. There are some good points made in the earlier posts, especially the one about seeing people on video who may not be with us later in life. I have a video of my grandfather from back in the late 80s when camcorders came out on the market. My grandfather is no longer with us but I can always watch him on tape when I want to.

but we ended up getting an unedited video from ADA. There won't be any interviews with people, unless they approach the videographer, and there won't be an opening or closing. I think it will be more documentary like

My FH at first didn't want one but I myself love videos and I love to watch them so I made him watch the one at our videographers studio and he was hooked. I just feel like it is so important to have something that you could look back on and see you and your family in action, photos are important too but different than a video.

I am a firm beliver that you SHOULD have a video. You spend all of this time and money and the day flies by in a minute. A video is the only way to truly capture your day and re-live the memories. Photos are beautiful and very important but you cannot hear your vows again with a photo. Get a video and don't worry about wishing you had later.

I am also a Wild Rose bride and am super happy with their service. They are always helping me (even after the wedding).

Every time I hear someone not wanting a video I cringe. I did not even notice my video people. (there two of them there).
We had copies made for some family members and they love it. My niece watches every night before she goes to bed. (she is six and my little shadow) They live in SC so she gets to re live the fun we had with her.(She was the FG).
My 90 year old grandmother watches it because she couldn't really get up and check out everything(viennes hour-ice sculptures) So she so enjoys it.'
And after all your hard work of choosing your gown and all the details it's nice to see it.
JMO -but really reconsider. They really are unobtrusive.

I'm not having a professional video done. They're expensive and I haven't really liked a lot of videos that I've seen.
But having said that, a friend of mine who has one of those really high tech digital video cameras will be taping it, he knows how to do all editing and stuff, so we will have something.
If you have a friend you trust to do good work, I would say go for that.

That's good also. Just make sure (like some of the girls have said) That they want to tape everything and do not miss some important stuff. People are at a party and forget they should be taping.
What ever you decide make sure it's right for you.

I know a videoographer who could probably still do your wedding even though it is 3 months away if you are interested e-me.
