Anyone not having raw Seafood at teh Cocktail Hour?
Someone annoyed me yesterday when I told them that I was not having shrimp at my cocktail hour. It would cost me $7.00pp+ X270 (with Vendors and children). I would rather not have teh extra expense. Instead, I would do the roasted suckling pig (open mothed with apple) display which I think is kind of funky looking for a set price.
This person made me feel cheap...
I just know that for one hour and 8 other seafood items included already, it's just not worth it.
Will my wedding look cheap????

I'm most likely not having it!!! And the person who makes me think my wedding looks cheap is a person missing a few front teeth.
Your wedding is going to be wonderful and you should know that by now after all your hard work!!! It's going to be a beautiful, classy, FUN affair!

while we would love it, no shrimp here either.
screw them and their comments. I don't think some people have any clue of the TOTAL costs of weddings these days.

Tell him to go to lunch that day and have some before he gets to the reception. The nerve.........I swear that people forget they are GUESTS.

With all the other food there, I doubt your guests will be saying...'where's the shrimp!?' I'm not having a raw seafood bar,either...and besides, there's shrimp scampi and stuffed shrimp and seafood fra diavolo during the cocktail hour already!

I will apologize for making you think that you would be cheap. You misunderstood what I said. When I asked about the shrimp..you had mentioned it before and told me that you didn't get the prices for the upgrades from the banquet manager..I didn't know that he quoted you any prices. I think the pig is a cool idea. I was caught offguard because I wasn't expecting you to say a roasted suckling pig!
I am sorry if I upset you!
I am a big bad mean sister...KILL ME!!

we are not having it either. We have been to weddings were we noticed that nobody eats the raw seafood, so we decided to against it and saved ourselves some money.

Re: Anyone not having raw Seafood at teh Cocktail Hour?
I'm not doing the raw bar seafood thing. It was too expensive. Instead, one of our hot dishes at the coctail hour will be shrimp scampi. Don't listen to other people. They are not paying for your wedding. Some people just don't get how expensive a wedding really is. Even people I know who are married don't comprehend the expense because they were married a while ago when things were cheaper. I don't think you have anything to worry about. You will have plenty of food there. Nobody will even notice that there is no shrimp.

aww
Don't worry about it, but I am Cheap!
My point about the menu is that unless they are paying for it or contributing to the wedding they can either eat what is offered or not, I don't care.
But the shrimp cocktail comes with our cocktail hour.. Part of the butler service. We want the carving station to have roast beef which is gonna be a twist.
Don't worry about it.. I like the pig idea. Sounds fancy and different.
ETA: Not having shrimp cocktail does NOT make your wedding cheap. It's silly. You have a great wedding, classy and elegant without people sucking their fingers of shrimp juices. No biggie.

That pig sounds totally cool and unique! Shrimp is nice but very commonplace! I wish I had the option of the pig! My FIL would be in heaven! Your wedding sounds very cool!

Re: Anyone not having raw Seafood at teh Cocktail Hour?
I'm not. Its a whole different package for me, so we decided not to upgrade. I thought most of it would go to waste. And nothing else in the other package was really worth it to me either.
They usually make the coctail hours so elaborate, it will be fine. I am creepd out by the pig too, but it will defintely be memorable, adn people won't even notice the lack of seafood.
Honestly, I don't ever remember being to a wedding with raw seafood ( I don't like it so, I've never realy looked), but I haven't gone to too many.

No, I didn't have it. They wanted extra money for it and the price per person was enough as it was. I did really want sushi- but that was extra too (I think most places have to send out for it).
What I did have was a hot seafood bar with mussels marinara, calamari and stuffed clams though.

Laurie, I am not having the raw seafood bar either. The same as you with all the food that I am having I did not think that the extra expense for the seafood bar was worth it. I am having the pig too.
