Someone annoyed me yesterday when I told them that I was not having shrimp at my cocktail hour. It would cost me $7.00pp+ X270 (with Vendors and children). I would rather not have teh extra expense. Instead, I would do the roasted suckling pig (open mothed with apple) display which I think is kind of funky looking for a set price.
This person made me feel cheap...
I just know that for one hour and 8 other seafood items included already, it's just not worth it.
Will my wedding look cheap????

i desperately wanted it...but it's so expensive. yes, members of my FH's family will definitely notice and will most likely make a remark about it, but i don't care. i can't worry about everything.

I'm having it, but that's because I LOVE shrimp! Like when I'm in the bridal suite, I am going to be filling up on it. If I didn't like it so much, I wouldn't care about having it. It did add $6 pp, but it was just something I really wanted. But it's not cheap if you're not having it. It's not a requirement. Some people have things at their wedding, and some people don't. I would have loved to have a viennese hour which costed less pp than shrimp, but that would have been too much. I would have loved to have the more extended menu, but that's too expensive. You pick what's most important to you in keeping with your budget.

Hey Laurie,
I wouldn't worry about that. My take on it is if anyone is bold enough to place an order (like shrimp and losbster), then they must be putting up some serious money. Other than that, they should prepare themselves to be ignored.
This celebration is for you and Brian. Everyone else are just invited to celebrate with you and to bare witness to your happiness.
If you decided to simply serve salad and fruit punch, that is your choice.

Nope. And not having the viennese (sp?) hour either.
Both were additional $$ per head, and with all the food that WM offers already, I don't think anyone will miss it either.
Do what makes you happy!!! Someone will always have a comment about SOMETHING, so you just gotta laugh it off.
Remember, their life must be pretty uninteresting if they need to talk crap about a missing shrimp boat.

Ummm no offense to anyone - but what does whether you have shrimp or certain food have to do with whether someone isn't having something - FH is allergic to crab and my father is allergice to strawberries so I have told my hall to make sure NOTHING has strawberries or crab in it so they can both relax and have a good day -

We can't afford it and not having it. There will be tons of different food, so eat that. They're not paying for your wedding. They should be grateful that they were even invited. Good luck with this, and don't let peoples' annoying opinions get to you.

No one has a right to make you feel that way! The roast pig is so unique and its what you want!
I'm only having the shrimp cocktail only because I really wanted it. My hall has the raw seafood bar but I contracted only for the shrimp. How many people actually eat from teh raw seafood bar. Its just flashing and a waste for me since i doubt my guests will be eating raw clams and oysters.

ROB-LUVS-ME~I did teh same thing! I made them right down that under no circumsances are they to use any type of nuts in teh cooking! My cousin is deathly allergic and this won't be te hfirst weddign where they had to drag her out of!

I'm having the seafood boat, we have very big italian families, and they LOVE the cold seafood... also, my grandparents really wanted it.... so we did it... but you are right... it's a ridiculous amount of money!!! You're wedding will look beautiful without it!!

My FI HATES seafood. It literally makes him sick. I love seafood. I think we are goign to have some type of pasta disj with seafood, but that's it.

Sweetie you are not cheap. I didn't do the seafood thing either. I had the pig and the duck. I did have a seafood paella which was included in the price I was already paying. Seafood cost extra and you know what we had so much food that people didn't even notice. I had so many people tell me that there was so much food at the wedding. I hate it when people have to make you feel bad by calling you cheap. Shame on them! I think you are fine and enjoy your wedding and don't worry about stupid people that say stupid things.

Your wedding will NOT be cheap at all. I never had one, and I presonally think it is a lot of EXTRA money. If I had the money, but I thought it would be too much and a watse. NOT everyone likes seafood. That peron who made you feel bad should be ASHAMED of themselves. This is YOUR wedding. If they are NOT happy then tell them not to come
