Anyone Not Register for Formal China?

Anyone Not Register for Formal China?

People have questioned why FH and I haven't registered for any formal china. We registered for casual china (which was between formal and everyday) and everyday dishes, but our casual china is somewhat contemporary and doesn't look like what you would expect 'china' to look like. Our feelings were that we are only 2 people right now, and even when we have kids, the likelihood of us really using formal china is slim. I know later on in life we'll probably have more reason to use it, but we assumed that we would just use what was passed down to us (and there will be stuff passed down). The other reason is because we didn't want to be stuck with half of our china pattern and have to shell out major money to complete it. And we're just not the 'formal' type.

Are we the only ones????

I registered for casual china only as well. My reason is as follows: most people that I know that registered for formal china, used it like twice a year(christmas and eastre). I hate to not use something if I have it so I registered for very nice casual china that would be suitable for my fiance and I and any guests we are going to have. I also think that my taste now and my taste in 10 or 15 years may be drastically different. Just my opinion.

Ditto:
I only registered for casual China.
Sounds silly but we want to USE our china.. I don't think I've ever really seen my aunts, uncles, or parents (either set) China.

FH family uses casual china nearly daily but in a different varitey. Rice bowls and small serving plates since every meal is served family style in a Chinese house.

*shrug*

I'd rather get a TV & Stand

We did not either. Let's face it, how many times a year do you eat off of 'fine' china? All of our family uses the 'fine' chinette when we have a gtg.

I'm so glad it's not just us!! Our taste right now is very contemporary, and I just know that it's not going to be the same 20 years down the road. I also would much rather have something that I will use all the time than something that I'll have to buy a large piece of furniture for storing it in! Our casual china is very Asian in style, which can be used for both every day or entertaining.

im the same way..
we bought a everyday set, and a company set of dishes.. I would have loved formal china but felt if people bought me that, that i might not get the stuff i really need off my registry... luckily his grandmother is giving me her sisters china(sisters dont use it anymore).. so i will have service for 12

We didn't register for formal china either. We have our every day dishes and we have dishes for company that is for 8 people. We just didn't feel the need to get a really expensive set of china.

i was thinking the same thing today. I'm torn whether to register for fine china or not. First of all we don't really have any place to store it. And id rather have a casual china set thats more 'me'. Formal china is just too formal for me.

We didn't for several reasons:

1. We don't have the space to store it.

2. I already have formal china I inherited from my grandnother sitting in a box in the closet.

It depends on your lifestyle whether you want formal china or not. Nowadays not everyone registers for it for their wedding.

We didn't register for fine china either...we'll still be living in our apartment after we're married...and if I would've registered for fine china now by the time I got around to using it, I would have found another pattern that I liked better. So, we've agreed to wait until we buy a house to get our china.

What kind of casual china did you all register for? (I'm both curious and nosy )

Re: Anyone Not Register for Formal China?

I registered for the Pfaltzgraff Orleans pattern...but I no longer like it and think I'm returning it after shower for another pattern I like better...either Monaco or there's a brand new one called Delicious.

we registered for calvin klein (= expensive!) casual china for our everyday dishes & formal china from lenox. i got 1 piece (serving platter) of my formal china at my shower & a whole bunch of my casual china.

therefore, we are dropping the formal china for our registry (looks like we won't get much more of it anyway). i love our casual china so much. besides, FH didn't want formal china anyway so this settled the debate!

I really like the Monaco. Very serene and pretty.

Isn't Monaco great?!?...I wish I would've waited to register because there are sooooooooo many things now I would change...and people have already started buying me the Orleans stuff so I can't change now.

i haven't found a casual china pattern i really love yet. I think i have to visit the store. But i like Pfaltzgraff stuff.

I have a few settings of formal china from my previous engagement. Do you think id be able to exchange it at Fortunoffs? (it was three or four years ago... but i don't think they can tell.)

Re: Anyone Not Register for Formal China?

My stuff's fairly plain, mostly because I liked the style, but also because FH and I don't like the same types of color schemes.

These are the everyday dishes we picked, although the difference in the two-toned colors is far more subtle than it appears in the picture. Nautica

This is the casual china. We got 6 sets of black and 6 of white, and our stemware is Block Kaleidescope, so I think that the colors of the stemware will look really great with the black/white. White
Black

Tracy, I can't imagine that if they are still carrying the line they wouldn't at least let you exchange them or give you store credit. However, if they no longer carry it or it's discontinued, you may have a problem there.

I really like pistoulet too...and charlotte...but fh told me he doesn't really like anything too girly or with flowers and that's why i agreed to register for orleans...but now i'm hating it...
