FH and I don't care about getting a video but EVERYONE seems to think we should get one.
Anyone not having a videographer?

I personally think you'd be making a big mistake, but that just my complete and total honest opinion. I know some that didn't and they totally regret it. I know I was in such a complete and total fog for the ceremony that I'm DYING to get our video and relive it all.

We aren't having one at the reception but you might want to consider having one at the church. We originally weren't and now I like the idea of preserving the most important part of the day. Food for thought....

Re: Anyone skipping videography?
my best friend didn't see the need for one at first, but then decided to add it on as she got closer to the wedding. Now she watches it CONSTANTLY.
I'm just afraid you might regret it if you don't get it. I'm spending 1600 for mine, which I think is nothing in the grand scheme of things. And you'll have it for life. Somebody once told me to not cut corners on the parts of the wedding that will last forever (photography, videography, etc.). I think that was good advice.

I just read an article about this in one of the bridal magazines. They polled women who just got married and asked them what they regret. A large percentage of them said they regreted not have a video. There is so much stuff you don't get to see the day of because you're so busy with everyone and a video allows you to see all the other stuff.

I totally agree with this!!!
Even our parents were so excited to see the video, because we were all off in our own little worlds throughout the day.

Re: Anyone skipping videography?
It's a personal choice but we LOVE our video and wanted to be able to see people at our wedding and have it to show our children, etc.
What I do what to say is that we love the raw footage even more than the nice edited version soo if anyone is on teh fence about th emoney, I now think it's worth it just to get something captured.

Re: Anyone skipping videography?
We aren't doing videography for a few reasons. I feel like a lot of the videographers I see at weddings (and I have been to 8 in the last year and a half) are very intrusive. We already have two photographers, so I just really don't want anyone else running around. We also decided to spend more money on the photography because the pictures will be displayed in our home (and our families' homes) forever whereas we feel like the video would just end up collecting dust after the novelty wears off.
My church also doesn't allow any videography or photography during the ceremony, so it sort of seems like a waste to hire a videographer who won't even be allowed to capture the most important part of the day.
I know that having a video is very important to many brides, it just wasn't very important to us. Do what you feel is right for you and your FH, not what others feel is right for them...

Re: Anyone skipping videography?
We're not getting a video. As far as I can tell, we'll never watch the video again. I had one for my Bat Mitzvah and we watched it once and I never cared again. We splurged on a more expensive photographer instead, since the pictures were what was important to us. I am, however, considering asking someone to tape the ceremony (we have a guest who is a professional cameraman), since that is the most important part and I can see myself wanting to see that from a third party perspective.

We're not having a videographer either for a variety of reasons. My brother in law is bringing his camera and will capture some of it. We just don't feel the need to have a professional do it. Our memories are free.

I def would give it some thought before making you final choice. I know they could be expensive and they money could be used for something else. But too me its just like pictures except that you see reactions, and emotion more than in a frozen image like a pica. And yes its true you prob. won't watch it frequently, but wouldn't you like to have it to show you're kids and so on.

Re: Anyone skipping videography?
we are technically skipping it...my great uncle is going to tape the ceremony for us (and i'm sure other moments as well) he tapes everything that goes on in my family....has a great eye for these things....so it's free....i could never justify paying someone to tape something i may never watch...at least if my uncle does it, it will be meaningful to watch it over the years.

We aren't having one, we're going to have someone tape the ceremony but, like someone posted above, I've been at a number of weddings where they have seen obtrusive.
We get our pics on dvd set to music. I have watched my friend's and they are great.

We are not having one.
1/ FH does not care about it. 2/ budget.
We will be using the photos to do a slideshow with music.
Someone with do a 'non professional' one with the camcorder.

I, too, have been to weddings and found the videographer to be rather intrusive..especially if nothing is going on and they deem it their right to 'interview/interrogate' guests...yes, this happened to us...so that's another reason to skip it...but i mean, if i can get it taped for free, why pay some guy to be in the way??
