I would also agrre..who has time to sit there with over 100 envelopes! (If I did them on the envelope...I think it might pay in time to have soeone do it for you..then you know no screwups or very few!)

Do some practice one's first and do them one at a time. It may be tedious but you are more assured it will come out right.
Good Luck and in my opionion it is definately worth doing the envelopes

We already had our labels on the computer from our STDs. We were using the word program, with black lettering. (Black is one of our wedding colors) But then FH decided to 'upgrade' the computer and it crashed. So, at the last minute we hand printed all our invites. Boy, I wish we could've used the clear labels. Now we'll use them for the Thank yous.

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
I was 100% against labels until recently. I found invites I LOVE and they are made of silk paper. The envelopes are so thick it wont fit into any printer, and I tried 3 different ones. I wasnt spending the extra money on a calligrapher when there are some many more expenses down the road. So I needed to make the decision of changing my invite or dealing with the labels. I printed one out on a clear label and to my suprise it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I dont love it but after thinking about it, I doubt anyone will even notice. So if it is easier for you, less money, and you like it, then do it. I do think the clear labels are much more LESS noticable than the white ones. Do the font big enough so it covers most of the label as well. Good luck!

I just got an invite in the mail for my childhood guy friend's wedding with clear labels. Did not make a difference to me! Still was a great invite. Do what you want. You can't please 'em all!
I agree. Out of all the invites you send, maybe 4 people will think about the label. Do you really care about pleasing those petty people?
A label isn't going to change the fact that you are getting married on the BEST.DAY.EVER.

I think they look cheap and there's that word 'tacky' it's just as cheap, and only a little more effort to print in a nice font right on the envelope.

I printed right on the envelope. I didn't have any jams it was a breeze.
Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
i would try printing on the envelope if you can!
we are probably getting our invitations from india and i'm scared that the material may jam in the computer, so we may use clear labels. not a big fan of them, but for this reason and because we're sending out about 400 invites...i'm taking the easy way out!

I printed the invites directly on the printer but I used clear labels for the the RSVP envelopes.
TIP: to print the envelopes on the printer, cut a piece of medium cardstock to size and put it inside the envelope. It will be less likely to jam when you feed it through the printer.

I absolutely agree. I did mine on clear labels and I had people call me to say how nice the envelopes and their names came out. I don't think people really much care if it's on a label or envelope. THEY DID NOT LOOK CHEAP OR TACKY!!!!

eta: I am not personally offended by the cheap & tacky comment, because well... it takes a whole lot more than that to offend me. I just think it is pretty ironic when people 'can't take it', but they can 'dish it out' fairly easily.

I did mine on clear labels so I guess I'm cheap and tacky
You just insulted quite a few of us who did them on labels. You could have worded it differently.
I tried them right on the envelopes and the printer ate 2 of them. It took me 3 hours to get the labels perfect and they look very nice. I used a script font with royal blue in color. IMO, Once you see who its for, you open the envelope and the envelope goes in the trash.

I feel the same way, I am not personally offended becasue, to be frank, I don't give a damn what people think but I find it soooo ironic

I was just given a tip this weekend! Minute man press will print your envelopes for $1.50 a piece...worth considering!

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
This whole thing of what the outside should look like stressed me!!!! To hell with everyone and do what you want! What will be easiest!! No one notices at all there will literally be 4 people who will!!!! And you'll always have those 4 who look that are the biotches and don't like anything!!!
I planned on using labels cause I tried one envelope and it destoryed it! On a last minute effort I did a test on my work printer and it came out no problem beautiful!!! But I had to do it when no one was in the office which ment 3 days of working till 9pm and once 10pm!!! I was exhausted with this whole thing!!! And it was just to please those rude people who will call my mom and say how 'tacky' my invtes were w/ labels!!!! I should have opted for labels so I could sleep more!
Advice - try two envelopes if it doesn't work save yourself the money, stress and time and just do clear labels!

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
I did computer calligraphy on my own computer. We used lined envelopes and the printer 'ate' a couple of them but I got a tip from a friend and I opened each lined envelope and fed it through the printer (almost as wide as 8.5 x 11 paper once opened).
They came out so well that I got a few calls from guests asking where I had the calligraphy done
ETA - sorry for the 'fuzzy' pics but I did it that way since I would not want my home address legibly posted on a public website

I am going to save myself the headache and do clear labels. Ppl are going to throw my invites out after the wedding anyway and I dont care what ppl think about it. I think it looks fine, like I said before my sister did clear lables and got alot of compliments from her invites.
Plus I dont trust my printer..
