Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?

I love this thread because if this was asked a few months to a year ago it was an all out war. The word tacky was thrown around left and right.
I was blessed to have my SIL do our envelopes...she was way too much into calligraphy... I too wasn't going to spend the money to have someone do it.

But...to me it's so nice to see everyone with an open mind. Love you girls!

I did computer calligraphy on my own computer. We used lined envelopes and the printer 'ate' a couple of them but I got a tip from a friend and I opened each lined envelope and fed it through the printer (almost as wide as 8.5 x 11 paper once opened).

They came out so well that I got a few calls from guests asking where I had the calligraphy done

ETA - sorry for the 'fuzzy' pics but I did it that way since I would not want my home address legibly posted on a public website

GORGEOUS Katrina!

And to think you were complaining about how people were rude to you last week????????? That is funny !!! you get what you give !!!!

agreed.

eta: I am not personally offended by the cheap & tacky comment, because well... it takes a whole lot more than that to offend me. I just think it is pretty ironic when people 'can't take it', but they can 'dish it out' fairly easily.

I feel the same way, I am not personally offended becasue, to be frank, I don't give a damn what people think but I find it soooo ironic

True colors are showing !!!

EVERY time this topic is brought up someone says it looks cheap, which I believe it does, and I put 'tacky' in quotes....because yes, that's how a lot of people will see it and you just know that's the kind of thing that comes up.

I gave an honest opinion. It wasn;t meant to be nasty. I think labels are inappropriate for all but the most informal wedding invitations.

ETA: I really don't think wedding invitaion labels and whether you like them or not is showing 'true colors' if you like something you like it, if you don't you don't/ If you disagree and you think they don't look cheap, then go for it. My opinion doens't matter. I didn't get offended when people didn't like my favors and said they'd just leave them at the table or throw them out.

Have you ever heard of the phrase 'if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all?' There are always more ways than one to say something. For instance, you could have said, 'I think printing on the envelopes is more formal. I personally wouldn't use labels' Same opinion just worded differently.

I apologize for my wording then. it wasn;t intended to be mean. I was just being quick and apparently too blunt. I meant to go back and change it actually, but that was before it blew up into this. I didn't mean to insuly anyone. Everyone has different taste, and everyone ahs different things they feel strongly about.

I didn't get offended when people said the thing I'm in LOVE with for my wedding, the photobooth was tacky. If you like something, go for it. I put tacky in quotes for a reason, because it alaywa sseems to be the operative word.

I just got an invite in the mail for my childhood guy friend's wedding with clear labels. Did not make a difference to me! Still was a great invite. Do what you want. You can't please 'em all!

I agree.
Out of all the invites you send, maybe 4 people will think about the label. Do you really care about pleasing those petty people?

A label isn't going to change the fact that you are getting married on the BEST.DAY.EVER.

I agree.....Go for it!!! i know I'm making my life easier by doing this!!

Exactly, I agree 100 %....I just think it is funny when people complain on other websites that 'I cannot believe how nasty everyone was to me last week....blah blah blah...' and then to be nasty yourself. It is just funny to me

Whatever, bigger fish to fry, we all have weddings to plan !!

oh, ok... I didn't realize it was acceptable to make other people feel bad as long as someone else has done it before.

Also, before I post advice, i always think 'what would I tell my best friend' and in all honesty I would tell her 'don't do it. it looks cheap'

OMG, now your going back to using the word cheap? You just don't get it, do you?

To those who are doing it - no worries. We did it, and it looked fine. We had a great wedding, and we had NO DEBT WHATSOEVER. Honestly, if any of my friends would rather see me and DH in debt and have prettier labels on envelopes that get thrown out, they are not true friends

I'm just saying, that's what I would say to her, so that's why I worded it that way. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, I didn't mean to. I was just giving an honest opinion. Fine...'don't do it, it looks informal'

Is that better?

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not this mean bi***y person, but I can be blunt.

And for the record, i think disagreeing or being 'rude' about address labels is a completely different realm from talking about actual personal problems, etc

That's just blowing it up so huge.

'Go into debt so I can have a pretty envelope' that's so stupid. No one would say that.

Also, I did say in my firts post that it's just as inexpensive to print right on the envelope and IMO it looks better. I didnt say go spend more money

None of us here are your bestfriends, well I know I'm not. But you know what it doesn't matter, everyone loved my invitations even with their 'cheap and tacky' clear labels.

I'm still marrying the man of my dreams.

EXACTLY!

It doesn't matter !!!!!

That's why I can't understand all the drama. I'm sorry I worded it wrong, but like, who CARES if I don't liek your labels. If you love them, then god bless you, awesome, perfect, etc

IKn the future I'll only give my opinion if it's 'that's so great!'

Such a big deal over absolutely nothing

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?

I stay out of all the drama on this forum, but feel compelled to say something here....

It blows my mind that a thread about labels can cause so much drama.

Can't it just be left that eveyone has their own opinions? Isn't that what this is about? Asking for advice?

I think people tend to lose sight of the fact that this is the internet and the written word can be taken very differently than how what saying the exact same thing with the spoken is taken.

Are labels REALLY worth all this drama?

Enjoy every minute of planning your weddings, you want to look back and have good memories of it, because your wedding day will literally be over in the blink of an eye. The first thing I said to DH after our wedding on our way home that night, was....'All this planning for 8 months, and it's over just like that!'

Let's just remember why we're all here.
