My BMs are not wearing the same dress. Actually they haven't even bought their dresses yet and the wedding is 6 weeks away! But I'm not worried...their plan is to go to a department store (Lord and Taylor, Bloomies, etc.). They are planning on getting the same color...just different styles.
They're working with three very different body types and three very different age groups (20, 33, & 46!). This was the best approach for us...and if it makes them comfortable...it's fine by me!

I was recently at a wedding where all of the BMs wore different dresses, but all the same color and it looked fab!!

I'm ina wedding party in November and the bride picked the color(purple) and we could pick a dress. She wants everyone to be as comfortable as possible.

what if 5 of the dresses are all the same (same color and style) but one is totally different in both color and style? Like all BMs in wine and the matron of honor is in black....? or yellow?

my bridesmaids all have different shapes and sizes as well so we did seperates.
They all ordered the same top THs skinny minnys ordered the mermaid skirt. The curvier girls ordered the a-line.
I have seen weddings where the MOH had a different dress from all the bridesmaids who were matching but in the SAME color. That looked great.
I haven't seen the bm's and moh not matching - the best thing I can think of is to get them all together and try it out in the bridal salon. See how it looks

I told my BM's that they can wear the same color of dress and same material but if one wants spaghetti straps and the other wants off the shoulders or any way they like, it's fine with me. Everyone has different body types so I want everyone to feel comfortable in whatever they are wearing. When my sister got married her BM all wore a light blue and I had as a maid of honor, a navy blue and we all looked great and pictures came out wonderful.

My BMs are wearing black dresses of their own choosing, with a few limitations (nothing above the knee, no sparkles). MOH has the same guidelines, but I think a MOH in a color that is complementary to the other BP can look very nice.

I actually have all my bridesmaids and the maid of honor in the same dress, but all in different colors, so they look like a bouquet of flowers surrounding me! To make my maid of honor even more special, her jewelry is different and I told her she could wear a small tiara in her hair. She LOVED this idea!

i told my girls to get what they wanted. all have different bodies and different pocket books, but i said i wanted a tea/knee length, sheer overlay and pastel summer colors. well, one still doesn't have her dress and the wedding is 33 days away! i'm pissed but i don't care anymore. in hindsight, i should have set higher standards, such as the same dress, or just one color, but hindsight is always 20/20. oh well, we'll still have a good day and i still think it isn't a bad idea since i want them all to be happy.

For my wedding all the girls wore the same wine color and material but my MOH had a differeny style dress, I liked the idea of her standing out.
For my best friend's wedding, who was my MOH, we are all wearing the same color and material but there are 4 different style dresses that we are wearing, it looks really good.
I think your idea of different colors would look really good also.

My bridesmaids all had the same dress - style and color, but the MOH's dress had crystal detailing on it, whicle the rest of the girls dresses were plian material. I wanted her to stand out a little..she also wore slightly different shoes

My BM's are wearing the same skirt, an A-line chiffon material and different tops to accomodate their different body types. My MOH is wearing a staples dress in the same color.
