Apartment search...

When should I start this? I am getting so anxious. I wish my FH and I could live together now. I hate the fact that we still have almost 6 months to go. If we could afford it, I would move in with him NOW!

Start looking for a place 2 months before.
We live together now and yes it does get expensive!

Re: Apartment search...

Wow christy I was just wondering the same thing, we are still contemplating buying a house but i really think renting for now would be easier with the obvious stress of the wedding, but look at this prices huh

Re: Apartment search...

It really depends on what kind of apartment you want(complex vs. in house rental). For a complex, you could start looking now, most place have models or at very least floor plans & prices. Usually a complex will know at least 2 if not 3 months in advance what apartments will be available for any given month. Remember you do have to submit an application & get approved which you can do early, because you could pick a place where there could be a waiting list or very few apartments opening up for your move in date & if you wait to long you won't be able to get into the complex you want. As far as an in house apartment rental or house rental, landlords tend to only advertise 1 to 2 months in advance so you may only be able to start looking that far in advice. Hope that was helpful. I have lived with my FH for 6 years in 3 different apartments so I'm pretty aware of this stuff. Personally, if you can afford it a complex is the way to go, well the right complex.

Hello again : )

If you were referring to my post....no those websites aren't just for apartments to buy. They have a bunch of rental units on the site as well. My unit is also on there. I'm a apartment search pro...I moved about 10 times in the last 7 years lol. The moving companies love me : )

Well marcella what do you think is reasonable rent to expect i could find to pay? I want a house so renting is just temporary, dont want to waste away our down payment.

Re: Apartment search...

complexes are a tough one.. there's really not that many out there.. buy chances are that people who sublet their apartments in those complexes list them with real estate offices b/c they don't want to post an ad in the local paper because they'll get calls from a whole bunch of weirdos you know..

Do you only want to rent in a complex?

Re: Apartment search...

When we were looking for an apartment, we looked at a few complexes. . . .and found them completely insane rent-wise (at least for us). We refused to pay $1600 + utilities for a one bedroom apartment. We found our 2-bedroom in Massapequa Park for a heck of a lot less than what any of the complexes wanted to charge us. If you do searches through the papers, you'll be able to find something.

Re: Apartment search...

I agree with Vicki 1000000000000%.. its ridiculous.. you're better off just getting a nice apt. in a house somewhere.. you can pay just the monthly rent and usually it includes the utilities..
