I've seen girls who are not getting married any time soon or at all. I think some were in engagements that ended.

Definitely!!

Some are business owners, some are 'friends' who scope out other peoples posts, some are just random people wishing they could get married

I totally agree and I feel like I'm getting good at spotting them!!!

yeah, i def agree. Honestly, i dont even get why would someone would waste their time here... like someone esle said you feel violated.. to me its just weird..
But on the other hand.. i think i know right away.. cause when you talk to someone..( a bride) you can hear the excitment..

As far as Vendors.. yeah i can see why they interested as posting as brides..for the business but as for everyone else.. why? if your not engaged and not planning a wedding...

Sometimes i can be highly suspicious of vendor raves and this is why.

As stated by previous posters, a rave from a poster with a low post count can be a sign that a poster is a vendor.

I think LIW admin is good about keeping the forums on people who are actually getting married or who are recently married. As far as I've seen, vendors masquerading as brides doesn't happen that often. Plus, there's a dedicated forum for vendor-bride communications (Vendors Helping Brides). I suppose limiting vendors to the VHB forum might be part of their agreement with LIW.

Out of curiosity though, why wouldn't you want people to know who you are? I don't care if people I know saw me on here, except for maybe my bridesmaids b/c I don't want them to see the gifts I'm getting them lol.

I'm sure anyone I know IRL can figure out it's me based on my less common wedding date and BM dresses + the fact that I'm a law student.

I'm just creeped out by the idea of putting too much personal info out on the internet on a site any random person can read.

As a legit poster, I would hate that I be obligated to reveal personal information about myself to other posters. If I reveal stuff about myself on the boards or to other posters, that should be my choice. LIW has my information, and that should be enough. If there's a complaint about any poster, we should report it to LIW.

OMG I never even thought about people not being legit on here, why would someone want to post on a site for weddings if they weren't a bride very sad in my opinion...as for vendors shame on them if they are posing!

I do know of a few girls who has signed up on this site and just lurked and wasnt even engaged yet... just way too anxious and excited about it. Personally I think thats just nutso...and a lil psycho!! I think of it as...someone out there who is majoryly obsessed with getting married and is not even engaged yet is looking at MY post and information. You never know who is out there. Brides sometimes dont post their info until its all done because Ive heard that other brides or non brides can call a vendor and TRY to cancel. Just be careful.

I got engaged in May, but actually registered in April (although I don't think I posted until May). I knew we were getting engaged soon (we had been ring shopping and FH had ordered my ring) and was doing some research on halls since we live OOT but are getting married on LI. Someone sent me a link to the website and you couldn't read the Off Topic! posts unless you were registered so I registered.

I don't think I've ever posted a 'rave' because I'm not married yet and my vendors haven't really done their jobs yet.

I have had some BAD experiences (bridal shops, travel agent, etc) but I never name names.

BRAVO!!! Many of us find it quite obnoxious how soooo many brides rant or rave about vendors they haven't used yet!!

Agreed

Most of the girls on here are real B2Bs, some are NWs etc. Once in awhile you will come across a fake bride but the higher powers are pretty good at keeping them to a minimum. I didnt rave about my vendors-I would say I booked such and such and was really nice and personable, etc. That is the mistake that is made by some. I also find it very strange when someone who is already married signs up months after their wedding but that is just MHO.

When a poster has 5 posts and they are the identical post about a certain vendor and its on every board....its always fishy. BUT be careful who you put on the chopping block as a b/c the 07ers did it a few times and found out later that in fact some of them were real brides.

I know also on the 08 brides board when I first starting posting- think her name was Karen- now she was a fake bride- she had like two log in names and also answered her own posts and such.

and she had THOUSANDS of post and came to a GTG

was this girl a vendor?

Nope she was just someone who wanted the attention or something- most of the other 08 girls know her a bit better than I do since this happened around the time that I joined LIW.

I don't know about her but I have two log in names (only because for the life of me can't remember what the first one was...so I had to make another one) and I tend to reply to my own posts but only because I haven't quite figured this whole thing out!! But it's my first day... so I'm learning!! I can't get over how informative you guys are!! You're all so helpful!! Well... the few that I've encountered anyways... Well Happy Planning!!
