Are you having rules....

Are you having rules....

on if your bridesmaids can wear jewelry, how they should have their hair...that sort of thing?

How exactly do you say, 'Don't wear any necklaces, and have your hair parted on the left in an updo.' Is that rude??

I think I will let my girls do what they want...

Re: Are you having rules....

One of my bridesmaids was in a wedding about three years ago and the bride made them all grow their hair to a certain length and wear it in the same style and wear the same jewelry and get the same manicure (even though they were wearing gloves)

If you want them to wear a particular necklace, buy it for them as their thank you gift.

I will most likely tell my girls to agree on a shoe for all three of them, but they don't have to consult me. They have to wear them.

Absolutely no rules - ain't my thing.

They're all picking out their dress - if they happen to pick the same one, goody...if they each pick a different one, goody...they'll all be in black and the same material - so as long as they all feel comfortable and sexy in what they've chosen, I'm happy. As for hair, I'm not a fan of up-do's...they're too prom for me. However they're comfortable wearing their hair, I'm fine with their decision.

I have no rules. The only thing I ask them is that they wear the necklace that I buy them but I do not carry how they wear their hair or what color nailpolish they have on.

That's a good question.....

I personally have no 'rules' but i had asked the girls not to wear watches on the day of....

I was in a wedding party 2 years ago and the bride was soooooo strict about what we could and couldn't wear. No jewelry, No watches, etc. I can understand the watch request because i would prefer that the girls wear jewelry instead.

Based on personal experience, if you want your girls to wear jewelry, buy them something they will wear again. My SIL gave us rhinestone stuff that in my opinion was really tacky. That was a year ago and I have gone to 4 weddings since then and haven't worn any of it.

No. I feel like if you require them to get their hair done, then you should pay for it. Some people don't have the money for those things.

I don't know if I would call them rules any more than I would call asking them to wear the same style/color dress a rule. But, I will pick out a hairstyle, shoes, and probably give them their (not necessarily identical)jewelry as a gift. The only 'rule' I think I will impose is that they don't remove their shoes at the reception!! I hate that! It's so sweet sixteen/promish!! So I will probably also give them comfy slippers to change into in case their footsies start hurting.

Re: Are you having rules....

I am not having any rules. I may buy my girls jewelry to wear depending on the dress we end up with and if I can find something that goes with the dress that they can wear again for anything else.

I don't even care if they wear the same shoes or not. In fact, since I hate shoes (I am probably going to wear flip flops) and FI loves his motorcycle boots more than anything, we decided not only will he wear them (shows his personality) that day, I informed my entire bridal party that they can wear whatever shoes please them. Flip Flops, sneakers, sandals - I don't care. I would rather them be comfortable (shows happier faces in pictures) than be in uncomfortable dress shoes. We are very easy going people and would love for each of them to let thier own persnalities shine through.

I have no rules. They are all wearing different dresses (same color). They can do their hair however they are comfortable. Nail polish is no issue....neither is jewelry...BUT...

I never thought about the taking off of the shoe thing. That does bother me too! How do you request that though? 'Oh, and by the way, if your feet hurt, please don't take off your shoes and go barefoot...I'll supply you with some slippers...' I think my BM's would think I'm mental! Maybe I am, but that still does bother me.

Re: Are you having rules....

Other than all wearing the same dress (aside from my MOH), I told them they can do their hair however they want and wear whatever jewelry. I won't make them all wear the same shoes, b/c one style will not be comfortable on everyone. As long as the shoes match the dresses, i'm happy.

I had no rules. They all had to wear the dress that I picked but they got whatever shoes they wanted. I purchased the neckacles for them, I brought them french manicures at a spa for the day before the wedding. They did whatever they wanted to their hair. I never said YOU HAD TO to all those little things.

No, no rules, just NO watches. I hope that they will all have their hair and make-up done professionally but I don't feel right imposing that on them.

Re: Are you having rules....

My MOH is a control freak so when she got married she picked out our shoes, jewlery everything, when she got to the hair I told her I had to draw the line. My reason was simple and well justified. She wanted everyone to have the SAME hairdo, a french twist with curls. 2 issues, my hair is so think a french twist annoys me the whole night because the bobby pins are just aching to pop out! and being that it is thick it has a hard time staying in curls. I told her she had to consider that each person has different types of hair and therefore it is really not practical to ask everyone to do the same thing. So we compromised on the idea that everyone would just wear their hair up....It worked for everyone, and honestly we all have very similar hairstyles!
Just something to consider!
But for my BP...no rules! I want them to be confortable and enjoy themselves although I will mention teh watch thing, I have never seen that before!

Re: Are you having rules....

I have simple rules...

1. I bought them pearls, so they're wearing them!

2. Their shoes MUST be the same color and material -- they have to agree amongst themselves about these things though, and they can all have a different shoe if they want.

Other than that I don't care.

Re: Are you having rules....

I don't think I'll have that many rules. I plan on buying them the jewelry, they can have their hair however they want. As long as they coordinate somehow! Otherwise I feel like it'll be too much stress on my part to keep them all the same. And they're not the same person....
