Are you having rules....

Re: Are you having rules....

No rules, shoes will be satin, they can get whatever style they are comfy in, hair can be done on there own, or at salon, it turns out we are almost all going to have it done at the salon ,gift certificates for nails, and pedicures, and giving them necklace to wear, and maybe earrings, not sure yet. They are also getting from me a jewelry box, and a brunch.

Re: Are you having rules....

I don't really have rules. I had them all get the same dress and I asked if anyone wanted to get there hair done, so I could make an appointment for them ( most are from out of state). I am going to give them their jewelry, and I am going to give them all a gift certificate to get their nails done.
Shoes, I don't care what they wear. Slippers are fine with me.

The only thing that mattered to me was having the same dress.

I hope I do not have to make rules...I like to call them clauses

Yes, I'd expect them to wear the jewlery I bought them.

No babys breath in hair, but they can wear it how they want. I am worried about my sisters choices....she said she wants big & lots of curls up-do I might have to have a talk with the hairdresser

open or closed shoes....but if it's open,,,,must have pedicure.

don't care about nails...but I'd hope it'll be suddle since the dress is a light pink.

I let them do what they want. I hate when everyone looks exactly the same....just my opinion.

Same as scoop... whatever they wanted AND I didn't even buy them jewelry.. I got them something else. I hate when people buy me jewelry. Because most often it's costume jewelry and I'm just not interested.

Give me the real stuff baby!

I have rules!

I want all my girls to wear their hair up in a neat and simple style (chignon, high bun, whatever, up to them). I don't want to see prom hair, no curly things hanging down, no half up-half down styles. They are all getting their hair professionally done. This was not optional, but my girls all wanted it this way anyway.

No jewelery unless I supply it (depends on dress). No wearing your everyday watch with the gown etc.

No crazy nails. My sister is notorious for the airbrushed nails and for ugly, tacky colors.

And please, do not remove your shoes to go dance on the dance floor!!! OMG how this bothers me!! My BM dresses are black so I will be buying each of my girls black isotoners to avoid this problem.

Oh yeah, and all girls must wear black, closed toe, dressy shoes. Either satin or that matte material.

LOL, I sound like a drill sargeant, but my girls all know that details are important to me and they wouldn't expect anything less from me!!

Re: Are you having rules....

EvenEden - just a question....if you are requiring that your girls get their hair professionally done, are you offering to pay for it as well?
I wanted my MOH's hair up, but wouldn't have asked her to do it unless I paid for it -

just wondering how you're handling that as I know it can be quite an expense?

Re: Are you having rules....

No rules for mu bridesmaids--I really don't care--as long as they feel beautiful--I had the most horrible experience w/my good friend who turned into a bridezilla.

We had Barney purple dresses, horrible matching purple shoes--dyed to match--(she picked the shoes--very hideous), purple gloves, and our stockings also had to match. Our hair had to be up, nails painted a certain color, etc, etc. I never did complain as it was her wedding, but I promised myself that I would NEVER put my bridemaids through that. It's not worth the stress at all!!! And no one pays attention to those details anyway--they are too busy looking at the bride!

Re: Are you having rules....

Sad.. I have rules.
Im such a freak. Good things my girls know me and know Im a weirdo. They all understood when they said yes, that I would pretty much just tell them what to do.

No watches

No braclets

I dont care what shoes you wear but the dress is to be just above the floor, so pick them well and pick comfy ones. Closed toe, satin or matte is all I ask. Oh ok.. they do have to MATCH at least!

Your hair? They have three different types so Im not touching that. BUT no flowers, no sparkles nothing fancy IN your hair. (Minus MOH)

Makeup? Again three types, no call on that.. just nothing shockingly strange heh

Jewelry - Either I'll buy it for them or the rule is necklaces, yes, no long dangly earrings.

I pick the dresses (with help from my MOH) and they will ALL be the same, none of this mismatched mayhem.

No baggies, purses.

There will be your dress, your shoes, your hair, your jewelry (as discussed above) your bo-k, and your smile and THATS IT. You want more then get someone to hold it for you.

I've taken a very bridezilla approach. This is MY wedding MY day and MY call, that's it. NO discussion and no options. If you don't like it, leave, I wont be hurt because it's my way or no way. Opinions are welcome and I'm open to ideas, but *I* and ONLY *I* make the final call.

I know.. im a *itch!

Re: Are you having rules....

To add though.. i have taken them into consideration and really am trying HARD to be fair. I lean on my MOH to keep me sane and she's done a good job so far..

I havent even PICKED the dresses yet and I think im narrowing down the color!

Oh, I should add.. DH has pretty good veto power over my ideas.

I only have 3 girls so I think i'll be ok. I'm trying to pick a gown they can wear again or something comfy and nothing too 'bridesmaid' like. No big flowers, no big laces parts. Simple elegant and formal.

I think you can only impose rules if you pay for it - and even at that point dont think you can tell them how long their hair will be. There are limits!!

Re: Are you having rules....

hmmm... i'm not sure if i'd call what i had rules.

i told them they were wearing hunter green and i wanted the same dress on everyone, but basically they picked the dress and i approved it.

i gave them jewelry as their gift, but the sets were not the same, although all were crystal.

i told them to pick out whatever shoes they wanted and they all ended up choosing the same, go figure.

they had free rein on the stockings issue.

they all basically assumed they were getting their hair, makeup and nails professionally done. THEY wouldn't have had it any other way. my mom ended up paying for the hair and makeup. i let them pick their own hairstyle and again they all chose the same, basically. all up.

i think i was pretty relaxed about things. well, i didn't get any complaints anyway!

Re: Are you having rules....

I have some rules - mainly that they look uniform - but left a couple of the choices to them.

I told them uniform shoes - THEY could decide as a group on that - either all the same shoes (which they could buy IF they wanted) OR they could all decide same color (open or closed toe as long as they were uniform) - this gave them the choice of buying new shoes or wearing what they had.

I am buying them the jewelry.

As far as makeup and hair - they wanted to get it done for photos - so I said fine - they can do it as they please - I don't like when people tell others how to wear their hair - because what is flattering on one is NOT flattering on another. So I know they have good taste and will look nice no matter what they do - but they are all doing something professionally with their hair and makeup.

My cousin was surprised and said this was the easiest wedding she had been in - (she was in 8) she said she was told everything down to hair, makeup, stockings, shoes, jewlery, even sometimes underwear - guess they are more strict in Texas...lol

Re: Are you having rules....

I trust my bridesmaids fully- I know they will all have their hair done, and will wear polish shades that flatter the color of the dresses, and won't go crazy with jewelry and accessories. I am fixated on this one dress right now for them, but if it doesn't work out, as long as they are by the same designer and in the same color, I am flexible. So as of now, no rules! (I do agree with no tan-lines, however)

Re: Are you having rules....

I dont want to give my girls rules, but then again I dont want them looking like crap. I want all of them to have their nails done with a french manicure, I would like their hair to be the same, and the jewlery will most likely be what I get them as a gift so i would want them to wear that. I mean this is the brides day since they said yes to be our bridesmaids they should take some stress off of us and just try to comprise with what we want. They all know im not made of money and cant afford everything for them, and I told my friends to think about saying yes before they gave me an answer because it could be expensive and they said it was all fine.

Re: Are you having rules....

I told my girls:
they had to wear a single strand of pearls and pearl earrings (i lent them if they didn't have)

they had to have their shoes dyed to match their dress

since they all wore open toe they all had to get a french pedicure.

i told them no multiplicity of jewelery

they had to wear their wraps a certain way when walking down the aisle

they wore there hair how every they wanted i just asked that it not be distracting...

i am crazy i know but, my girls didn't seem to mind and they all looked beautiful!

Jennyhet-My friend was in a wedding where they all wore purple and had gloves and matching polish. I wonder if this was the same bride. Was her name Marie?
