Are you rude?

Original post by Espo22

I saw this on Oprah and thought it was pretty interesting, they said that most people now find there are so many rude people out there. 80% said this but 99% of those people said its not them

they also interviewed a store clerk and was so upsetting to hear how customers treated her, also waiters too and hearing what people do to them

Here are the questions that were asked to the studio audience to see if you are rude. At first i said oh i make sure i am not rude but was surprised by some things

Are you chronically late? i have to say i have a bad habit of being late

Have you ever typed an email while talking on the phone? i have done this

Have you ever interrupted a face to face conversation to take an unimportant phone call? I hate cell phones and hate when this is done, cant remember if i have done this but i usually have people tell me 'just pick up the phone' bc many times i dont. Usually if i pick up its for a reason

Have you ever gone through the supermarket express lane with more than 10 items? this is a pet peeve of mine and HATE when this is done

Have you let your dog relieve himself on a neighbors lawn? i have no dog

Have you ever stolen someones parking spot? NO i hate this too

Have you ever gossiped? yes

Have you ever taken someones food or drink from office refrigerator? NO

and here are some other things people said that they thought was rude and many people do

People texting while hanging out with you and having a conversation

not washing hands after using the bathroom

Talking on the cell phone when going up to a cashier, security at airport, while waiter is taking your order, or anything similar to this

Interrupting while someone is talking

chewing gum with mouth open

After reading this, I think I need further therapy.

And Mrs. Espo, those are just my two most shameful incidents. I don't count ANY train incidents, because I think they are in a class of their own.

As my uncle says, 'riding that iron horse will kill us all one day. Turns good people bad.'

I use that as my defense- anything that happens on the train, is because of the train.

I hope God is so forgiving.

i love that and so true, bc when i am on the train i am a COMPLETELY different person. Dont feel bad, if thats the case then most of us need theraphy

Okay, ESPO, I have gotten into more fights on the LIRR and the subway than I can count. Once I actually punched a man in the face for spitting sunflower seeds on the floor.

I mean, he was standing with his back to the door, eating seeds, and spitting them on the floor right in front of the door. So everyone who got off had to walk through his spitty mess. I asked him what the F he was doing. I said, I have to take this train every day. Do you really think it's proper to spit your seeds on the ground?

So he spit a seed at me.

I didn't even think about it. Before I knew what was happenning, I punched him in the face. His head swung back and hit the bar by the door, so I kind of got a two-fer. I hit him, then his head hit the metal bar.

Like a complete imbecile, I got off the train and started screaming for him to get off. I think about it now, and thank god he didn't hit me back, because he would have killed me. I just was so mad I couldn't see.

Another time, I got into the train and it was mobbed. I had my ipod on. I walked into the corner by the subway door, and people piled in. I could NOT have moved another inch. This lady turns around and starts yelling in my face with the meanest look, but I couldn't hear her. I took off my headphones and asked her nicely (not to be nice, but because it pisses people off, and I KNEW she said something mean) if she thought she wanted to repeat what she said.

She said 'I SAID MOVE YOUR FAT *** IN'. Now, I may be on the chub side, but I was standing so far out of everyone's way that she clearly was just one of those people who wanted to be mean to someone they didn't think would have the balls to respond.

I went off, but in a contained, insane person way. I said 'I'm not going to bother all of these people. But I'm going to wait on the train until you get off, and when you do, I'm going to kill you.' She kept pushing me- literally pushing me. I did nothing. I just looked at her and smiled. Then I held onto the post and she punched my hand. This was the best- she dropped her purse, and her cell phone dropped out, which I kicked across the crowded subway. She looked like a fool trying to find it.

Now she started to look scared, because I was laughing like a crazy person. I saw her start to move around Grand Central, so I got out first and stood at the foot of the stairs and waited for her. I walked up the stairs next to her, and she put a hand on me to sort of push me away, so I started pushing her back. She said 'Can't you get over it?'

That's what killed me. SHE starts in on a complete stranger, and then when SHE's realizing she made a stupid move, I'M supposed to get over it???

I followed her all the way up to the street. At this point, she's hysterical crying and runs up to some cops. I follow her, and she's saying I threatened her. I laughed calmly, and said I was just trying to go to work. The cops had better things to do, so I followed her to the corner and said 'The minute we're out of sight of those cops, I'm going to rip your face off.'

She started screaming, ran back to the cops, and they walked her to work.

Two days later, I saw her at the subway stop.

I went up behind her and whispered in her ear very softly, 'I'm right behind you.'

She started screaming and ran up the stairs.

Now, I don't think I would have touched this girl. But I was so incredulous at her behavior, I couldn't believe it. She was cruel to a complete stranger for no reason at all. I was completely out of her way. I truly hope I taught her a lesson, though of course, it's not my place to teach anyone a lesson. I'm no saint.

But man, did it feel awesome.

holy crap that is awesome , your my idol for that!. She deserved it . don't take sh!t from anyone, I am the same way

I had a fight similar to that on the subway. I guess my bag was touching another girl on the train ( it was PACKED 5 train from brooklyn) and she screamed
'this white ***** better get her bag off of me '
so i said- ' sorry , i didnt realize'
she screamed'- yes you did white *****
so I said- ' listen black *****, ill knock you the F*Ck Out right here on this train if you don't S T F U and stop trying to scare me with your loudness and racist BS'

she S T F U real quick because i gave her what i like to call ' crazy eyes' .

I'm at work, and I literally guffawed. People are staring. That's so awesome.

I think I met the same lady, and I'll spare you the entire story (because I've already embarrassed myself enough), but it ended with this princess grabbing her lady bits, jumping up and down, and screaming F YOU WHITE DEVIL!!!

All because she wouldn't move her gross feet so another lady could sit down.

Man. People.

One funny thing- a lady sat next to me on the subway YEARS ago, and lit a cigarette. It was the wierdest thing. She obviously wasn't in her right mind, and unless I feel physically unsafe, I usually give the 'touched' some slack. I turned to her and said 'You can't smoke on the subway.'

She turned around to me and said 'I'm a Libra. And a Lover!! I smoke because that's what I do!'

I let her be. It was actually pretty funny (not the mental illness, I mean, but what she said), and I figured she had enough to deal with.

Re: Are you rude?

Of that original list posted on here, I am really glad to see that i don't do too many of them. Of course I'm guilty of a couple, but that's life. lol.

That one about the phones. OMG! I HATE it when people answer their phones while talking me! In fact, it makes me crazy. That should never be done unless you're expecting some really important call. Same with answering the call waiting. I never do that. First come first serve! Sometimes I end up just leaving whoever i was with when they do this. I can't even handle that. I once had a guy do that while we were on a date!! Like we're sitting in the restaurant and one of his buddies called - so he's chatting while i'm just sitting there like a loser. Ugh. Needless to say, I refused a second date.

And that one about being more than 10 items in the express line. Ahhhh!!! That makes me soooo angry!! I always give people attitude when i see this, showing them my impatience for having to wait behind them with my 1 or 2 products in hand.

One of my flaws, however, is definitely the texting thing though. I'm really bad with this. No matter WHAT I'm doing, if FH writes to me, I will ALWAYS write back. I mean like I could be in a movie theater, at work, driving. It doesn't matter. But that's because we're in a long distance relationship, so the phone is our only source of communication - whether it's talking or texting. He always comes first.

Re: Are you rude?

Well, I try not to be but nobody's perfect.

As for the cell phone issues, I agree! I hate when I am talking to someone & they cannot put their phone down long enough to make eye contact.

The last time I remember being rude to someone was unintential: A high school teacher of mine (who I didn't like LOL) greeted me while out in public and when she said 'hello' I just turned my head, not my body, and replied 'fine thanks.' When I left, I realized to myself, gee I think she was taken aback by how I greeted her. That was 9 years ago.

Now, I do my best not to be rude to anyone. I treat people the way I want to be treated back.

I still think a ton of people are rude when on the road. A man gave me the finger once after parking his car, within 5 feet of me and instead of giving him the finger back, I said 'You're supposed to be a father, look at what you are teaching your kids.'

Definitely not. Im usually way too early and stuck sitting around by myself somewhere.

Have you ever typed an email while talking on the phone?

Yes I do this to DH and he hangs up on me.

Have you ever interrupted a face to face conversation to take an unimportant phone call?

Yes and its usually for DH that I pick up since he's psycho and will keep trying to call until I pick up.

Have you ever gone through the supermarket express lane with more than 10 items?

Nope but DH tries to do it. I may do it if I have 11 or 12 small items.

Have you let your dog relieve himself on a neighbors lawn?

No but if I had a dog I dont think I would care if he peed on their lawn. Now if he took a dump, I would pick it up.

Have you ever stolen someones parking spot?

NO! And let me say I will FIGHT SOMEONE next time this happens. This happened to DH and I in the city and it almost happened to me. Its the RUDEST thing anyone can do and Im infuriates right now talking about it.

Have you ever gossiped?
No but did you hear Songstress is a ho??

Have you ever taken someones food or drink from office refrigerator?

Nope. I never worked in an office but I wouldnt do it. Thats just rude.

I think talking on the cell phone while trying to cash out somewhere is horrible. Ive done this but its RARE. Theres actually a sign in a bagel shop in Queens that says they refuse to acknowledge you if youre trying to pay for something while on the phone. Its pretty funny

The other rude crap in that episode that annoyed me was the rudeness to waiters. I have come across some CLASS ACTS as a waitress. People who you think have never been taught to be civilized. And let me tell you all, the worst thing in the world is to be rude to a waiter because I guarantee you will either be eating someones spit or a dirt covered item from your dish. Its just stupid.

That woman was a pig. I have encountered her kind many times. People like her obviously have no self esteem and it makes them feel better to have someone serving them. People like her will not look me in the eye when I come up to their table. They wont answer me if I ask a question about their order but complain if I get it wrong. This was when I used to serve food. It was the worst. Happened a lot at ONE in the meatpacking district when I worked there. The way someone treats someone in a service position really says a lot about what kind of person they are.

yeah in the meatpacking district you have alot of snobs so not surprised to hear that. I also do think its their own way to feel important and has to do with self-esteem issues. If you have confidence and are a happy person then i dont see why you have the need to put others down. Actually didnt the expert say this on oprah and what was the biggest reason. He actually said it perfectly and had a great quote, cant remember word for word, but something about taking out your anger on others through rudeness.

Are you chronically late? I try not to be. Most of the time I am a bit early but I do have my late days.

Have you ever typed an email while talking on the phone? This is something that I do at work often.

Have you ever interrupted a face to face conversation to take an unimportant phone call? Well...how can one tell if a phone call is unimportant? I usually ignore the call if I am talking face to face. But if it's my DH or my parents I do not ignore the call and excuse myself.

Have you ever gone through the supermarket express lane with more than 10 items?
I have NEVER done this and I NEVER will. It is such a pet peeve of mine.

Have you let your dog relieve himself on a neighbors lawn?
No

Have you ever stolen someones parking spot? Yes I have, but only because they have stolen mine at one point in time. Imature I know but oh well!

Have you ever gossiped?
Yes

Have you ever taken someones food or drink from office refrigerator?
NO, another thing I would never do. I've had it done to me 4 times...it is RUDE!

and here are some other things people said that they thought was rude and many people do

People texting while hanging out with you and having a conversation

***I don't like this either

not washing hands after using the bathroom

***That is just gross

Talking on the cell phone when going up to a cashier, security at airport, while waiter is taking your order, or anything similar to this

***I agree this is rude

Interrupting while someone is talking

***I have people interupt me all the time...it annoys me to no end.

chewing gum with mouth open

***Again...gross

Have you ever taken someones food or drink from office refrigerator? nope.

People texting while hanging out with you and having a conversation (I HATE THIS)

not washing hands after using the bathroom (EWWWWW)

Talking on the cell phone when going up to a cashier, security at airport, while waiter is taking your order, or anything similar to this (I've done this to a cashier, I don't really think this one is a big deal, but I wouldn't do it in a restaurant or airport security.)

Interrupting while someone is talking- I think I've done this by accident a few times if I get distracted by something else or another conversation lol, but it's not intentional and I'm really trying to pay attention to this

chewing gum with mouth open- NO! Fh does this and I want to strangle him!
