Just out of curiosity..... if you had a guest that you knew had a problem controlling his/her alcohol intake but you still needed to invite them to the wedding, what can you do?
Can you give the bartenders a photo of the guest and tell them not to serve him/her alcoholic drinks? (like sparkling cider or non-alcoholic wine, or lie and say there's alcohol in the mixed drinks?) Or maybe not serve them real drinks after an hour? I'm sure the person would probably notice, but I'm just curious if places would actually do that
Any other ideas for dealing with a potentially problematic guest?

I honestly don't think you can do anything about it without causing trouble. We're nervous about FH's brothers drinking but there is really nothing we can do about it

Thats tough... I have no idea of what I would do... I mean, I would def try to talk to your RH and tell them your situation about the guest and see if there is anything they could do with that... However, I personally would be a little leary about the guest, with the chance they might get annoyed and start a problem that they are the only one not allowed to be served alcohol... Either way it could be a damned if you do, damned if you dont situation... If you do he/she might ruin your day and if you dont let them have any they might cause a scene.... Have you tried talking to this person? Im sorry, I know Im not much of a help... Im stumped on this one....

umm how bout my whole Fh's family!! I know someones going in the drink at my wedding...(my RH is Chateau La Mer....very dangerous outdoor area for drunk people!) im just going to accept that people are going to get crazy by the end of the night and hope they dont make a scene!! I know at CLM they told me they would pretty much do whatever I wanted them to do as far as drinks are concerned. I tell them not to serve shots and stuff like that if I know its going to be out of control. I think you would have to check with the hall and the policies

i would alert the maitre' d and your bridal attendant - to keep an eye on the person. This way - they can alert the bartenders and let them know if the dude is drinking too much...

I have heard of people alerting their DOC of the situation, and then the DOC monitors the person and has the bartender cut them off if it gets to that point. If you don't have a DOC, I don't see why your bridal attendant couldn't be that person. I believe it was a bride on here who told me of this - you may want to run a search for something like that and see what you can find.

I plan on doing that - asking my bartender to serve a particular guest or guests watered-down drinks...

I don't think that's an unreasonable request.
I just have no hope for my beer-drinking aunt and uncle.
that's a good one, watered down drinks, I'll have to remember that

Re: Asking bartenders not to serve a guest alcohol?
my reception hall has it in their contract that they reserve the right to stop serving anyone who has had too much, and apparently they're pretty serious about that. that's completely fine with me though because i do know quite a few people who can't stop themselves and i'd rather they not be served and pissed off and/or removed from the premesis than destroy my day or anyone else's good time. sorry if i sound like a *****, but i have no tolerance for stupidity.

If you want to hear something crazy, my Mom just told me for the first time that her uncle (my grandfather's brother) was a crazy alcoholic to the extent that they once had to lock him in a car at a wedding b/c he was so drunk they didn't want him to ruin the entire thing.

Re: Asking bartenders not to serve a guest alcohol?
I'd love to do that to some of my family and FHs, but I think that'll cause more problems, so I wouldnt. But I am mandating that some stay at the hotel where there is the free shuttle (and by some I mean BP members who said they already want too. So im not purposely being bridezilla, but I dont want to worry about them driving home from LI to Queens

well i dont think you can lie to somebody that theres alcohol in a drink if there isn't, you can tell when theres no alcohol. I would ask the bartender to water down the drinks if you're that concerned.
Also, if its a person who likes drinking at events, if a bartender refuses to serve them it can turn ugly

Re: Asking bartenders not to serve a guest alcohol?
I would just tell the bartender to look out for anyone that had a little too much to drink and not serve them after a certain amount of drinks or to just water down the drinks so they wont be too strong
