I'm not having children of any kind at my wedding because we do not want them there and I can't be pushed around.
But that being said, a baby that is a few weeks old should not be taken outside of their house! Two months is the EARLIEST usually a pediatrcian will suggest you take a baby in public ( except for a Dr. Appt.) They would be putting that poor new baby in jepoardy of contacting all sorts of germs and illneses that their little bodies can't handle to well yet. A wedding with 200 people should be the absolute last place they would take their newborn! What any reasonably sane thinking person should do is say, I'm sorry, but the baby is too little, no one can come to the house and watch him, so I cannot attend your wedding. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but I hate when people are selfish and they are being selfish x2, one for asking if they can bring their baby who was not invited and secondly for wanting to put their babies in harms way!

And, I'm sorry the more I think about this the madder I become, but what is wrong with your father and the other members of your family? They should know that you are not supposed to take a newborn out , especially to a place with hundreds of people!!! I hope your cousin tells her pediatrician that she plans to take the newborn to a wedding 3 weeks after he is born, I'm sure he will tell her she is out of her freakin head.

I think this is a poor decision on the parent's part. A child that young should not be brought out to an event like this, period. The germs, the disruption of routine, the loud noises, etc...it's just overall a BAD idea. I do agree that they haven't thought this through yet, and do agree they will probably have an about-face once the baby is born. Honestly, if it were me in the situation...I would stay home. I'd let FH go to the wedding by himself if he wanted to to 'represent' us, but if I really had no one to watch my 3 week old baby...I'd be a mother first and deal with the situation. To each their own I suppose.

Re: Babies at reception
all babies have little alarm clocks inside them that make them cry during wedding ceremonies. Seriously. That being said, someone insisted on bringing a baby to our wedding, and we dealt with it. I wasn't too happy but it looked cute in the pix. But it cried during the ceremony.

Re: Babies at reception
My sister had a baby on April 20th, and she has been FORBIDDEN by her doctor to take the baby out in public places like the supermarket or the mall until June 20th because she hasn't had her vaccinations yet. I'm surprised that she would even consider bringing a 3 week old baby out at that point, especially considering that there are still nasty strains of the flu floating around!!!
That being said, my sister and an OOT friend of mine are both taking their infants to the wedding. I don't mind because most of my family hasn't had a chance to really see my niece and they're not having a christening for her (as far as I know). Most of the attention will be on me and FH instead of the babies, anyway!!! LOL!!!

Re: Babies at reception
I don't think weddings are events for children, especially considering the cost per person. Like others have said already, its pretty much all or nothing. If you don't say up front that it is an adult reception then that leaves it open to people's bad judgment and unfortunately it only takes one to ruin your day. I was recently at a wedding where the best man was giving his speech while an approximately 4 year old child was having a complete meltdown kicking and screaming on the floor. The child's prarents didn't even have the decency to pick her up and remove her from the room, so everyone turned to look and no one had any idea what the best man even said. That is what the couple has on their wedding video. I have no doubt that someone will not attend my wedding because I am excluding their child but I don't care. It is well worth it.

Re: Babies at reception
D amn wish I could read through all of these responses.... But coming from a mother I wouldnt bring my baby out at that age. There are soooo many germs, there that you dont know the baby could catch. I say that one of them stay home if they cant have someone watch the baby. I know many other moms that have been through this, even in the BP, and they didnt not bring their baby. I think they are crazy for wanting too. But they probably want everyone to see the baby but, you dont do it that way. I have a friend who just had a baby and she isnt bring him to my shower, because of this she isnt coming... I totally understand... and said thank god my wedding will be when he is 3 months and is ok leaving him at that age with a babysitter, family of course. I dont know if Im making sense here but, I think they are crazy too do this. Especially since everything going on with the Swine Flu, sp, they wont even let people visit in the hospital if you just had a baby, atleast thats what happened when my friend had hers.

oh boy, i feel bad that you are upset!
all i can say is that I dont think it will be a big deal in the grand scheme of things. My cousin brought her baby, By the way, she never asked, just brought the baby. The baby was prob about 2 months old. I was shocked and kind of annoyed at first, but what was I going to do. Im glad i didnt worry too much, I never heard one sound from the baby, i forgot the baby was there and when the baby needed to get fed I believe she went to the bathroom.
there will be music playing, you will be too busy to notice! =-) did you know there was a baby at my wedding?
