Bad news at work

Bad news at work

I work in a Catholic school and our enrollment has gone down every year I've been there. Last year it went down so much we closed our second campus and combined into one school. Today we found out we are down even more and it looks like 7 teachers might be let go! I have no idea how they are going to decide, if it's by seniority I'm gone... gonna be rough, and so sad not to be teaching at the school next year when I get married (I am getting married at the Church affiliated with the school). I should find out for sure by next Friday... Wish me luck!

Anyone's district hiring? Anyone know of anything I can besides teach with an education degree??

I don't know of any districts hiring, but I will ask my mom, she works for Sachem so she would know. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this! Hopefully it won't be you!!

Good Luck. Unfortunately Im not in the profession so Im not aware of any districts hiring.

However, last week I was at the dentist in Hicksville and a patient was talking about how she makes more money being a substitue than being a teacher!

Good Luck Jennie!

ETA: Have you checked the NY times? I was just online there and saw some on the island, but I forgot what grade you teach

can you just sub or work in a daycare center until you find another district? That's too bad, hope you're not one of the ones going & won't have to worry about it.

I may be getting excessed also. i work in specail ed and sadly the students are all getting sent back to districts that can't handle them or back into mainstream. Many are not ready. It is really sad. Sorry to hijack... I feel for you. I love my job. I will be sad if I have to look for a new one.

I've been checking the times weekly cuz I'd like to get out anyway (just on my own terms! LOL)... so far I've sent out quite a few but nothing has panned out.

Thanks though, everyone! I should hear by next Friday so I'll let you know!

Where exactly IS Locust Valley? DO you know if they accept paper resumes or only online ones? Thanks for letting me know Lisa!!

Re: Bad news at work

Locust Valley is on the north shore of Nassau County. (Zip code is 11560- so you can mapquest it). Exit 39 on the LIE towards Glen Cove - go north on Glen Cove Road until the end (see the Glen Cove Fire Dept. in front of you) and make a right onto Forest Ave. which becomes Buckram Road take that into Locust Valley.

Re: Bad news at work

Im so sorry your going through the not knowing. I believe the catholic schools would have a better chance of survival if they would let go of restrictions made on registration. When we moved out her from the city we tried to put our kids who were in 4th grade and 6th grade into a few different schools because the freeport district is horrible but they wouldnt take them because they were too old. Well the one in 6th grade was and that would've been 3yrs. tuition right there. When my son was in 5th grade we tried and they made him go through all the testing and interviews to not getting in touch with me by the deadline and after they had me go to the transportation office to get him a bus told me in a letter that they had no room for him. It's a shame it really is. I wish you luck and if I hear of anything I'll be sure to let you know. I am in a RCIA program I could ask the woman running it if she knows of any openings in St. Killians La Salle school.
