I'm doing DJ it's a sixth of the price and if I want Aerosmith then a Freestyle song then Sinatra.... it's no problem!!!

I'd love a band but a DJ is more practial for me - more economical too...

DJ for me. I can't afford a band and I want to hear the real artist not someone's rendition of the song...that's jmo

I think it's really a matter of personal preference. For us, we feel like a DJ will be able to provide a wider range- which is what we want. Also, the cost is MUCH lower, and we are having a rather large weddng so we don't want to go crazy with everything else.

Honestly, I think a DJ is the safest option. They cant screw up the music too much!

However, I did book a band. I always dreamed of having live music at my wedding and fell in love with our band.

I love a good DJ but I too always wanted a live band at my wedding.

We have a DJ, but we have a jazz trio for CH and a live dinner singer for the 'down' times, and we're going to add in a percussionist too.

Best of both worlds, since I wanted a band and my FH wanted a DJ this was our compromise.

Always a debate on here.....we really wanted live music for our wedding and decided to splurge on it.

I think it all depends on your budget and your preference. We originally wanted a dj because we like a large variety of music, but our parents all wanted us to get a band. So we found a band that can play a great variety. In hindsight, I'm actually very happy we have a band.

We booked with a DJ, but added on some live elements (percussionist and a dinner singer as a surprise for my parents anniversary...) With what the DJ was charging us for the regular stuff and the add-on's was still half of what we got quoted by the live bands...

itsx totally a personal choice... my advise would be go to a showcase where they have a band and a dj perform (watermill has both at their showcases) and see which one appeals more to you and your FH.

There are pluses and minuses to both.

I booked a DJ but I am going for a real PARTY vibe.

DJ...bands cant always play everything and they can be wayy to loud and take away from teh wedding. it turns into more a concert i feel like

this was really FH's only request. so we are getting a band, even if its expensive & will be a little struggle to pay for but in the end it will be worth it.

Re: Band or DJ?

It really comes down to your budget. A band can be double or more than the price of a DJ. FH and I were set on a band because we both love live music and we knew of a couple bands that played a good variety. Go to a couple of band showcases to get a feel. We went to a Code Bleu showcase and knew right away they were the band for us.

Re: Band or DJ?

Definitely a band for us! I've heard Code Bleu is great--if only I can make it to one of their showcases!

Do you all feel that a showcase is a fair assessment of the band? Has anyone heard of any bad experiences with bands?
