Best and Worst Favor ideas

Original post by marymoon

What are the best and worst favors you've gotten at a wedding/shower/e-party, etc.

The best I think is the heart shaped half cup scoop at my cousin's shower. i'm biased though. I picked it out.

The worst was a CD of the coupkle's wedding. EVERYONE went NUTS over it. But I don't have the same tastes and I've never listened to it. If it werent my sister and BIL, I'd have thrown it out.

Favors I like..... ice cream/coffee scoop, donations (I am doing this), CD's with favorite music/love songs, tea, coffee, bagels & newspapers, pies (I LOVE this!), Krispy Kreme donuts. I also like Jordan almonds....don't know why. I guess its kinda old fashioned!

Favors I don't hate, but that I don not care for.... frames, candles (I feel like I have too many), salt/pepper shakers, chocolate

We are giving Godiva Chocolate. I like getting favors that can be eated or used! Like candles. I don't know what to do with all the trinkets I get from weddings, and I feel bad throwing them away. I usually give them to my mom.

MMMMMMM - I love Godiva Chocolate. I love getting food as favors.

I got an ice cream scoop that I use to this day. I'm not a fan of lil frames, I have so many I don't know where to put them.

Best - edible or drinkable

Worst - everything else - I have never put any favor 'out' in my house, they are usually cheap and look it, or don't suit my style

Anytime you ask for opinions, someone's feelings might get hurt. I mean, as long as no one's hateful. I don't thik there's anything wrong with saying 'I like this' or 'I don't like this'. It's just like when everyone posts their favors. You have a good point though.

I agree with this completely...it is an opinion forum...but personally, I was offended by the coment regarding hte baby tree. I think that is a beautiful gift..and very wasteful to throw it out! Kinda defeats the whole 'grow in love' thing doesn't it. But to each his own, though I shouldn't be surprised concidering that most people don't even recycle around here.
sorry, this is a tree-lovin' hippy speaking, so watch out about the tree-bashing!

TO THE POINT however....
I don't think i've ever recieved a favor that was 'useful'. But they were all nice. One was a tea cup with a candle in it, another was a little castle frame that came with the place-cards and the other was a fresh rose for each guest. None of these were terribly useful, but all nice enough. The probelm for me is that I am a pack rat...so I save this stuff anyway. I'm also sentemental, so I would NEVER throw them away!

Re: Best and Worst Favor ideas

At my wedding I handed out this wine stopper.

I wanted to choose something that everyone will be able to use for years to come and remember that it came from my wedding.

I didn't engrave our names on it or anything, because IMO I would not have liked to have received that favor and have to see that name all the time.

Worst: I LOVE chocolates, but I personally don't like that idea, since it won't be around as a memory of that person's wedding because you ate it already!

I see nothing wrong with asking the question. However, you will not please everyone that attends your wedding no matter how hard you try. Everyone had different tastes, wants and needs. You need to like it and that's it.

Personally, I just wanted to do a donation - but I what do I matter. We got ornaments which I think are nice, but there will be Jewish people at my wedding. What are they going to do with that!!! Hence, my point...just can't please everyone!

I am giving chocolate and I am not offended... I can't please everyone. I did not really care too much about the favors, but FH REALLY wanted those Hershey bars that say 'Heretheyare' instead of Hershey.

Best- Godiva (I am a fan of the edible favors)
Worst- ceramic picture frame that was really not my taste

It is so interesting to see how different people's tastes are. My friend got that little tree and loved it! Went home and planted it and was bummed when it died.

I haven't really received the best favor yet, but recently I got a small glass ice bucket with tongs which I thought wasn't so bad and very practical.

The worst favor I get was two hershey kisses.

The CD favor isn't so bad - I can understand you don't like it because you don't like the music.

TWO hershey kisses???? I hope they could spare them!!

I made a CD favor for my wedding, which had all wedding related songs and a lot of Sinatra...and who doesn't like him? I really didn't care if they listened to it or threw it out the window. They ate, drank (probably a lot) and danced at my wedding, what do people expect?

I guess the most interesting favor from a Saturday night wedding was a bag of bagels and the Sunday newspaper.

I loved the small Lenox frame with the hearts on it, that was probably the cutest!

about the hershey kisses. I also don't like chocolate as a favor because you eat it and it's gone! I like the idea of the tree favor, but I'd have nowhere to plant a tree and if I did and it died I'd feel really bad. You get this poem about the tree growing with the couple and then it dies, and then what does that mean? Too much pressure!

I like this post. I really wanted to get a feel for what people thought about different things. I'm not offended by anyone saying they don't like something I like. Different strokes for different folks.

Keep it coming!

I LOVE those napkin rings. SO cute!

we gave a jar of honey, and then later saw picture on our table cameras of people holding the honey and making a strange face, like asking what it meant. We had a 'Meant to Bee' theme going, for my deceased nana bee, and I should have attached a tag. Someone would probably put our favor on the 'hate' list if they didnt know what it was for.

Re: Best and Worst Favor ideas

At the time I liked a very different (not Mikasa), original wine stopper. Now I wouldn't necessarily like one - how many can you have. Another original gift was a half bottle of wine done very nicely.
I don't like donations per say. And I think a lot of people hate them. It looks like a cheap way out of buying favors. It never says if they donated $25 or $25,000. Not a big fan of just getting a piece of paper saying 'we made a donation'. I think it's good in addition to a physical favor.
I also don't like the almonds. I know it's hard to be original as we all attend so many weddings and get so many things from wine stoppers to coffee scoops to whatever. I'd rather have cookies, brownies, anything then the damn almonds. I know a lot of people use them and guess like them but not me.'
And flower seeds - No.

i like edible too..or something useful..CDs too...but sometimes when it is something that trinkety you dont knwo what to do with it and you feel bad beacuse someone spent a nice sum of money on it!!

in response to someone who mentioned no favors as being the worst...i happen to know that many jewish weddings dont traditionally give favors.

So far we got:

I liked: Cheese cutter board/knife
CD and of course jordan almonds ( i love them!)
We got to all take pictures and pick which type of frames we wanted, It was the coolest thing!!!
Small wine bottles

It's the thought that counts:

little paper plant in a little pot (cute but umm?? yea)
It wasn't bad, just not really anything we would use

i'm may be in the minority here, but i don't really care for favors in general unless they are edible. my two favorite favors have been a box of 4 godiva truffles and a half-bottle of really good red wine. both were great because i got to enjoy them. i also really like the donation idea.

Couldn;t agree more!

I really wanted to do the donations but my FI talked me out of it.

I really wanted to donate money to the Cancer research because my grandfather passed away from cancer just 3 days after I met my DH and he never got to meet him. BUT my DH's mother was very sick at the time of our wedding as well and DH said that seeing the donation cars would remind her of her condition and upset her. I couldn't argue with that! Sadly, she passed away only 4 month after our wedding!

BUT, back to the worst favor I got. It was at a 1 year old birthday party, a very lavish one, too. They gave a porcelain baby bootie with the b'day girl's picture glued to the side! It was pretty darn ugly, I must say! And certainly not very useful!

Very true! Unless the favor is edible, than it's OK! What can I say, we love our food!

Re: Best and Worst Favor ideas

I have to add one. A family member of mine always has big to do's for wedding and all showers, baby shower, christening, first communion......
I do believe at almost every one of them we got a precious moments occasion thing - most being crosses. They were all great but got repetitious. Kept the theme a little too long...
