Birth control?

Ok ladies time to be personal but I need to know since I have a dilemma!!!
Ok so I used the pill for 9 years since I was almost 15. I recently found out about major issues about my kidneys so I can't take the pill.
I wanted to get the non hormonal iud. However, I woke for a catholic school so they won't cover it. I have my moms insurance as a secondary but she works for a catholic hospital!!! So it's 1k out of pocket but they don't know if they can get it in being I never had a baby. That being said, I have to pay the 1k to order it not knowin if it will go in or not and if not I'm still paying for it!!!

That being said what would you girls do/ which forms of birth control do you find effective?

Re: Birth control?

Oy!! That stinks. Is that the only form of contraception you would be willing to take? If it were me, I would research other options and if this was the one I absolutely wanted to have, I would probably take the chance and spend the $1000.

I have PCOS & Insulin Resistance so I have been on oral contraceptives for quite some time and has helped regulate my hormones and my monthly cycle tremendously. The only concern I have is when I come off the pill if my body will stay regulated or if everything is going to go haywire again. This in turn makes me constantly worry about even getting pregnant. I have seen countless endocrines and gyns and have gotten a different story each time so all I can do is hope and pray that when we go to try we will be successful!

Birth control?

Oy! That's a tough situation

I just went on Google and found a list of options here: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control-4211.htm

I don't know how many of those options can work for you, but it's worth a look!

Soon2BeMrsPy, I have the same concerns. I originally went on the pill because I was so irregular, and I'm afraid that coming off of it is going to cause things to get mucked up again!

Birth control?

Hey...I was on the pill years ago but It gave me high blood pressure. I have PCOS so my periods are completely irregular. I had a 'period' so bad last month I ended up in the ER. I found a new gyno and she recommended Mirena. I asked about it after her recommendation because I read how they say its for people who gave had kids. But she said its not only for them. She said if she was offered it ten years ao she would do it. That being said is held be getting itin a week or two.

Birth control?

This is really difficult. I'd do as much research as possible. I've heard so many positives about the IUD from other people who have also never had a baby. It might be worth the money out of pocket

Re: Birth control?

I use the pill as well and when I asked about the IUD my gyno told me they would not use that for me because I have not had children but I would definitely do research as to all of your options. A friend of mine does the depo shots every three months and she has never had a problem to the best of my knowledge. If the IUD is what you want is there an option of waiting until you can be covered by your FH's insurance?

Birth control?

I use the DEPO provera shot. I love it. it's nothing stuck in my body and I get it once every 3 months. I always go a day or two before my due date so I am covered even though my nurse told me in confidence that's safe to get it anytime in the two week due date frame. it's also low hormones only progesterine so no extra estrogen for me because I loved the pill but I'm a migraine sufferer and the shot has helped SOO MUCH! I like not having to remember the pill and in too wimp for an implanted iud/rod/mirena I go to PP in west islip because I pay out of poker and Jennifer is the best PA ever. she's the one who referred me to my RH! I pay about $75 every 3 months. hope this helps!

EDIT: in also too nervous for mirena type things because I don't have children and don't want to take any risks

Birth control?

I have never been one for birth control/hormones etc I also suffer from migraines. I just do it the good old fashioned way with condoms. Im so baf with remembering to take meds at the right time. The shot that you use erika is intriguing something I would look into because im a wuss also haha.

Birth control?

I do not take metformin!!! Problem is we both work for catholic entities they will never cover it and after we get married we don't need birth control! It's literally just for the next year and 9 months... I can't use anything with synthetic hormones..

Birth control?

i have the non hormonal iud and it was covered under my insurance. i'm not sure why your office is telling you it would be 1k out of pocket because they said for me it would be about 700. I love my paraguard and have no had any issues!!

I would look into the mini-pill as well. its a non-hormonal BC they give to breast feeding mothers.

that's strange I've always heard that breast feeding is a natural BC and there is no need to anything during it.

I used to be on the pill but I was horrible at remembering to take it. I've been on the NuvaRing for quite a few years and I absolutely love it! Any questions let me know!

Birth control?

I don't know much about catholic schools and the insurance they carry, but my friend works for an insurance company that is run by a catholic organization, and she can get contraception if she can prove that it is medically necessary. Is there any way your doctor can show that the IUD is?
