Although, apparently, there's been some huff and puff over this lately, we are putting black tie preferred, with the hopes that the men will at least where a black suit.

Re: black tie question
We put optional but I think all wording pretty much implies the same thing.

Re: black tie question
yeah, thats what im trying to decipher...like optional means what it means, but i thought i could soften it up more by saying welcomed, meaning if youve got it and want to get decked..please do! i dont know, optional seems to be the main concensus.

Re: black tie question
I would use Black Tie Optional over Black Tie Preferred because you don't seem to have a preference as to wearing having men wear tuxedos.
Black Tie Preferred tells the guests that you prefer them to be wearing tuxedos.
If you want them to wear a tuxedo, make it Black Tie Preferred or Black Tie Affair.
If you just want them to dress nice and you think that by not alluding to the words 'Black tie' in the invitation will lead guests to believe they can come dressed in less than a nice suit then I guess putting in the words Black Tie with some suffix will get the job done.

Re: black tie question
yes, thats why i think ill stick with optional. id love it for people to get really dresses, after all, it is the most elegant night of my life, so optional is good. iwould never want to make anyone feel outcasted or embarrassed for not wearing a tux, so preferred is out of the question for me.

Re: black tie question
outcasted and embarassed for not wearing a tux - EXCELLENT statement - my sentiments exactly. Thank you.

Re: black tie question
Since you ARE getting married on V-day, why not say RED tie invited/optional/requested or whatever you were going to say.

Re: black tie question
absolutely serious
i got attacked in a previous thread because i stated the exact viewpoint in my own way but in one sentence you captured the essence of my point.
won't lie and say I was the most pleasant rebuttal artist but what it comes down to is what you said - no one wants to feel outcasted or embarassed and putting the words preferred lets people know that you WANT them wearing a tux, not just dressed in something like a suit

Don't apologize sweetie!! I just can't stand people trying to make themselves look like the victim.. this dude started a new thread attacking ME after reading my response in another thread that I used BTP...
I do however think that you should use Black Tie Optional esp. for the reasons you mentioned in your initial post =)
I Def will and thanks dani! are you going to homecoming on saturday?

Re: black tie question
in my initial posts, i never attacked marcellabella but rather the notion of having black tie preferred.
it is true that her previous thread was the catalyst of my thread though - but i never made it so that i was attacking her
until later when i kept getting bashed
please dont lie to make yourself feel better.

please don't lie to myself? about what? you being too much of a coward to direct your thread to me and instead make up some stupid story about how you received some invite that read 'Black tie Preferred'
You admitted in a FORUM MAIL you sent to me that the thread was directed to me..
and I wasn't the only one who disagreed with what you posted.. there were several other LADIES on this board who thought you were WAY out of line...

i did receive an invitation that said Black Tie Preferred and I made mention of that several times throughout the thread I started - i dont need to prove that to you
i admitted on HERE (and in forum mail) that your thread served as a catalyst for my thread
and i never said you were the only one who attacked me
i have no clue who you are so why feel the need to only attack you - I was attacking the concept and I was ALWAYS very clear about that and never blasted you for that - you really must be eaten alive by all those socialite inlaws you have to feel this paranoid to think everyone is out to get you.
