BM dresses cause too much distress! (longish)

BM dresses cause too much distress! (longish)

Hey ladies...so, I rally the gals together to go BM dress shopping and they try on two they like, however, most of them are really busty (REALLY) and one of the dresses was a halter that was really too sexy for its purpose (a twilight temple wedding in August). The second dress was more conservative, but strapless with the option of having straps on. It looked flattering on all, but one of the girls only wants to be sexy...the other girls tried to tell her and she was not nice about it, but then I said I would like the other one better. I told them from the beginning they did not have to wear the same dress, but they all like the idea of wearing the same dress, since they were all flattering in it. The one girl relents to the one dress on the way home, and then I come home to an email with an expensive BM dress website and suggestions in satin after I said chiffon would work better since I am wearing a lace dress...I am trying not to be a Bridezilla, but is it so much to ask for a tasteful, conservative type dress in a fabric with many choices?? FH and MOH say put my foot down, and I know, but argh..this is getting me so agitated because suggestions are being made that I don't care for and I don't need a porn fest on the bima with me on my wedding day! Ok, now I feel like this is a temper tantrum so I'm going to stop, but, honestly, I have been in two weddings and realized it was a dress for ONE DAY! :) Happy New Year to you and yours and thanks for listening!

It really aggravates me when others involved in the wedding expect their opinions to be more important than the bride's (I have had my own issues with BM dresses) You are getting married in a temple, not a strip club. She needs to get over herself & wear the dress that you like. Stand firm & good luck

Thanks, I appreciate it..I feel like I am making a big deal over it, maybe I'm the only one, and like I said, I'm pretty laid back, but there are limits!! :)

yes, I agree with you that there are limits. one of my BM is a double D and you should have seen the dresses she was picking out! It would have given my grandmother a heart attack.

Thanks, ladies, for your support--I appreciate it! I know what you mean about a heart attack dress--I couldn't believe it!

I think it is nice that you offered for them to wear different dresses if they so choose. I am going to do the same thing. BUT if the majority of the girls like the same one and all look flattering in it...well the choice is made and the one who is differing in opinion is going to have to just adjust. I think a lot of girls who have not been brides before need to remember that you are the bride and the decision is up to you. For those who have been brides before need to realize that they were brides once too and have been in this position and need to just make things less stressful for the bride to be! This is just my opinion of course!

You have the last say in this. Just stay strong and explain that satin is not really an option.

Thank you, and you know what? It is not the former brides who are really the issue, it's just one who has not been and just wants to be a sexy momma..lol...you're right, though, and I know that, but assertiveness is not my prime quality..thank you!

I would ask her if she is the bride? Then she will wear what you want her too period end of the story. There should be no questions about what you want her to wear-NONE!
Put your foot down

I agree, and I'm not even asking them to wear an ugly dress!

It would be this in a latte color, long length, optional straps, and a shawl for the ceremony only.

oh, that is a great dress & they'd be able to wear it again.

Thanks..I think so...and the color would be neutral, the length long (tea length looks silly on the girls, and myself, since I try to be fair)

I would tell her that you have all already chosen the dress and it is done. If she doesn't like it-she doesn't have to be in the wedding.

Thanks, gals!! Well, I just got a call from my MOH after several emails between everyone and she said I am not being a Bridezilla and to make the executive decision and say we are getting those first ones that are flattering on all...thanks for your support, guys, especially if you said you'd call..heehee

I was going to do the different dress thing but my MOH picked a dress that would be flattering to all, my BM's run the gamut of body sizes, but I only let them pick from dresses I had alredy picked out! You should put your foot down and explain that it's what you want

coming from both a bride, and a bridesmaid. who has seen more than 30 weddings....
I recommend having a couple of different styles by the SAME designer.......that way its all uniform, looks GREAT in pictures, and makes EVERYONE happy/comfortable.
