From what I've been reading the AVENT bottles and accessories are really good. Can anyone agree, or can you recommend a different brand? Thanks!

Re: Bottles
Paul didn't like the Avent bottles...the nipples have a weird shape to them, and he was constantly dripping milk everywhere.
However, we had GREAT success with both the Evenflo Elite bottles and the Playtex Nursers. I would recommend either of these to anyone. HTH!

Re: Bottles
I think bottles are such a personal thing...well I am baby thing I plan on bfing for a few weeks and then introducing Playtex nursers. Claud also gave me 2 evenflo with the wide nipples to try. I never considered using the Dr. Brown or the Advent bottles.

Re: Bottles
All bottles market themselves to be 'as close to the real thing' as possible. It really is a matter of what your child takes to and what you decide to buy.
Avent has worked great for me.
Sidenote question- Claud - when you used the Avent pump, did the evenflo bottles fit/$crew into the pump well? or did you just pour the milk into the evenflo bottles after pumping. Evenflo is my next choice if Avent doesnt work with the next baby. I love Evenflo products!

Re: Bottles
Anna, you would not believe the process I had to go through with the pumping/bottle thing! I was using a hospital grade Medela pump, which uses the standard Medela bottles, suction cups and hoses....so, I'd pump into the Medela bottles, then transfer my milk to the breastmilk bottles they give you at the hospital. I also used the Avent bottles - but not with the nipple - with the flat storage 'cap' that you can switch to. When we were ready to do a feeding, I'd again transfer the milk into the Evenflo and then feed Paul. It was not a fun process - but, since I wasn't using the manual Avent pump, I didn't know how to eliminate the extra steps.

Re: Bottles
what if you get bottles that does not work for your baby can you return them or something. THat is why I never thing bottles are a good gift, b/c if you get too much of something and it does not work for the baby its such a waste IMO

Re: Bottles
I hated Avent bottles in the beginning. Luke was somewhat colicky and I was paranoid when I could hear the bubbles. I switched to Dr Browns and still use them. I love them.

Re: Bottles
I found them,
Designed by a doctor in response to his son's colic, this innovative bottle helps reduce colic, spit-up, burping, and gas. A special internal vent prevents air bubbles from forming in liquids and keeps nipples from collapsing. The vent also helps prevent fluid from gathering in your baby's ears during feeding, which reduces the chance of painful ear infections. The wider shape of the bottle and nipple closely mimics the contours of the breast, making it easier for your baby to alternate between breast- and bottle-feeding.

Dr. Brown’s bottles feature a patented internal vent which reduces air bubbles and helps to prevent fluid in your baby’s ears.

Re: Bottles
Check this out, wow, so much to choose from
The Tri-Flow system offers three different flow rates in one adjustable nipple to instantly meet your baby's feeding needs. With a simple twist of the Tri-Flow nipple ring, you can control the flow of liquid so it's more like Mom: slow for babies up to 3 months old, medium for 3 to 6 months, fast for babies 6 months and up. The softness and shape of the nipple make it easier for your baby to alternate between breast and bottle, helping to reduce nipple confusion.

Re: Bottles
I like the fact that you literally push out the air with the platex bottles.
Can't I pump into the breast milk storage bags? I thought with the Instyle I could?

Re: Bottles
How do you choose, wow there are so many, I never knew
I like this one
Mix-On-the-Go Bottle System by Umix
A bottle that allows you to mix formula anywhere by keeping powdered formula and water separate.
Once you've used the Mix-On-the-Go Bottle System, you'll wonder how you ever survived without it. The top chamber of the system keeps powdered formula separate from the water until you're ready to combine for feeding. Simply fill the top portion with powdered formula and the bottle with water. The patented locking collar and formula ball keep the powder and water separate until your baby is ready to eat. No more worries about keeping premixed bottles cold or storing powdered formula in separate containers.
Features: • Keeps powdered formula and water separate • 8-oz. bottle with nipple, locking collar, powdered formula ball, and travel cap • Ounces and milliliters are clearly marked on outside of bottle • Great for day outings and daycare • Easy to use • Dishwasher safe; can also be boiled to sterilize • Made in the USA
Consider this: FDA guidelines state that formula should be fed to babies within 30 minutes of mixing powder and water.

Re: Bottles
we also had a rough time with bottles. I did not breast feed, and we started Aidan with the playtex Nurser. He had such gas and cried all og the time . After a month -- we switched to a few different kinds -- ending up with the Vent Air bottle-- by playtex. never had a problem with gas again. Now my sister in law tried the same bottle-- and her baby was awful.. She wound up using Dr. Brown's and loves them .. So I think you have to just try a few to see what your baby prefers.

Re: Bottles
We just wanted to register for some, but we just don't know what kind? We also don't know what kind of Breast pump we're going to get yet either? Don't they have to go together?

Re: Bottles
The baby dictates the bottle -- I had the whole AVENT system, which I opened and washed all the bottles, etc. Well, on the 3rd night home, at 1:00am, we found out he couldn't su ck on the nip ple at all. It seemed much too long. I ended up going through a few types, settling on the Playtex drop in's for both of them. The Avent system (over $100 worth of bottles and supplies) ended up being packed away, never to be used.
IMO, your best bet is to register for a few of the starter systems and try which works best. Although I didn't BF, I think the systems are somewhat interchangeable.
BTW -- two of my friends used the Dr. Brown bottles as both of their babies had bad cases of reflux -- and they worked great. The only problem is they have a number of pieces, so washing them is a pain.
