I am 38 yrs old & am planning a small wedding. I originally wanted only a matron of honor & best man. Most of friends are married & have very hectic schedules & am sure they are relieved. PLUS it saves me the aggrevation too. So here is my dilemna. My future mother in law mentioned that my fiance's cousin was wondering if i was going to ask her to be the bridal party. MIL did say to her that i wasn't going to have one. But from her tone she seemed like she was hinting. I told her i would think about it & talk to my fiance. My other issue with this is my sister is 42 yrs old and overweight & the cousin is 21 yrs old & slim. So i am sure they will different tastes. Also, the cousin lives in PA. I did consider this for awhile, but i thought about it..i really don't wan to get stressed wondering what to do if they don't agree on the style etc. I onlysee the cousin on the holidays & am not close with her. I have nothing against & she is very nice. Most people i talk to said just tell her we want to keep simple and are having no party. So far i really lucked out & have had no family related issues/arguments. I don't want any hurt feelings. Should i just give in & deal with it or stick with my guns?!
HELP!!!!

Re: Bridal Party Help
It's your day. Do whatever will make you feel better. If you don't want to stress with a bridal party then don't have one.

Re: Bridal Party Help
If you want them have them, It is your day either way. I dont think anyones size should matter however, dresses tend to come in extended sizes

Re: Bridal Party Help
Thanks girls its not so much the size as the style. 2 very different personalities
I think i am leaning towards a no... i origininally said no bridal party so nobody should be mad.

Re: Bridal Party Help
I wouldn't include her bc you're not very close and you rarely see her. Does she even want to be a BM or is this something that your FMIL is pushing on her own??
Instead, maybe you could ask FH's cousin to do a reading. That should satisfy both sides.

Re: Bridal Party Help
Why not have her do a reading or something- make her have some sort of special part of your day without being a bridesmaid.

Re: Bridal Party Help
I agree that a happy compromise would be to make her a reader. Don't get bullied into doing something you don't want. And I totally understand what you mean about weight/personality playing into dress decisions. It was a problem I had throughout the entire dress picking process so I say try to avoid it if you can.

Re: Bridal Party Help
actually the cousin is the one who brought it up to my FMIL.. FMIL just mentioned it last night. My friend suggested the same thing about having her do a reading. Plus I do have cousins that live in Canada & are pretty sure they may be coming. Suppose they get upset they weren't asked?? see this is exactly why i don't want a bridal party. i am sure there will be plenty other things that i will be stressing & don't want a bridal party issues to be one of them
I really appreciate your advice

Re: Bridal Party Help
It's your day... so it's your way. If you don't want a bridal party, then you don't have to have it. As long as you and your FH are happy, that's all that matters.

Re: Bridal Party Help
If you don't want a bridal party beyond MOH and BM, don't do it. Explain to her that you are keeping it small, and try to include her in something else...DIY projects, an appointment or two, etc.
If you do decide to include her, lots of designers have lots of different style dresses in the same color...perhaps each girl could choose their own to avoid any issues.
Go with your gut though about including additional people!

It's your day, don't let other people influence you. If you only want 1 on each side then stick with it! I'm sure she will get over it.

Re: Bridal Party Help
Thanks guys!
i think i am going to go with my original plan. i just want to run by my FH even though i know his response. 'whatever makes you happy'! I really don't know her that well. If i wanted to have a bridal there are several others i would have chosen over her. I know she is family but FH only sees her on holidays too.. Plus the whole thing with her living in PA and having to accomodate her schedule. My sis lives only 5 minutes away. I would have to revolve my plans when she is in town.. i don't have that kind of time to spare.
I know this is next to impossible but i am really trying hard to minimize the amount of stress. My problem is i am trying to please everybody... i know its NOT going to happen!
