a dj shouldn't be $5,000...if you're spending $5,000 on a dj then you might as well spend $1,000 more and get a band. most bands quoted me $6,000 while Dj's go anywhere from $800=$2,000

Limo's should be- lets say ur gonna have 1 12 passenger and a rolls for you and FH...you can expect to spend from $1300-$1600

flowers can get expensive...when i posted a pic of what i envisioned and asked for quotes somebody told me it would cost $6000 but with a few changes they could bring it down to $4,000 and thats for something on a grand scale like this

I am looking to spend between $30,000-$35,000 I actually wanted to spend less but my FMIL is helping and my FH says I should go for whatever I want and not penny pinch so thats the only reason we're going up that high...RH is taking up $23,000 of that budget.

Its not JUST about the money for a DJ, and that if anyone spends that much for a DJ they might as well get a band...I dont want a band, some of us have dj's bc its our preference ...if you get alot of extra's added to a dj package it can add up, and certain places like starlight are more money so their packages are between $3000-5000

yea maybe shes getting alot of extras for $5,000. Im paying a little over $3,000 and thats with music all day, advanced lighting and perimeter lighting. If I added all the extras I really wanted, I'd be paying over $5k too.

yeah we got percussion, sax, 2 50 inch plasmas, photo montages that has a photographer come to the ceremony to take pics and puts them up at RH with guarantee of 600 photos but we are not going to do that anymore bc only our photographer will be able to photograph. Plus special lighting.

I understand ppl prefer bands and wonder why not get a band but there are some of us who dont want a band, not that we wanted a band but had to settle for a dj. They have gotten alot better than they were years ago but i dont think they'd be able to play half my songs lol

yea thats why I prefer a dj..and i really dont like hearing someone other than the original artist sing the song.

that's how i felt too.. I def. don't see a band playing house music..lmao. And when i request a bon jovi song.. it better be jon bon jovi's voice i hear.. i want no substitutions.. especially since it's our first dance song.. i wanna hear them sing it...!!!

yeah same thing, i like to hear the original version and the beats and everything...for example one of our slower songs is not a traditional slow song lol its Vermillion pt 2 by slipknot, if a band sang that i think it would change the sound of the song completely and made to sound like a typical slow song, dont think theyll get slipknots voice down perfectly lol

oh no don't get me wrong...i actually prefer a band too just because there are certain songs that are not 'the norm' and a dj is the only one who can make that happen for me...but $5,000? that seems crazy to me. I'm not getting any lighting packages...at least not that i plan on. My FMIL is suggesting I get a band instead because...well actually i don't know what her reason behind it is. There is one band i saw that i would consider but they want $6,000 and while you only get to marry once in your life (hopefully) I just can't see myself spending THAT much for the extras. At first I was really gonna skimp on flowers too bc my attitude was 'its gonna die anyway' the only reason i changed my mind was coz FMIL is payin for it.

I'm sorry if that came out wrong I didn't mean to offend you or anyone else...a DJ is perfectly fine...I prefer it...but i was just thinking if it came to me spending that much i would go with a really great band ... but thats me...I also want to hear a song that no dj can play because there is no mastered version of john lennons 'grow old with me'...but a band could learn to do it easily

well certain lighting can be between $1000-2000 alone, plasma's are in the upper hundreds to $1000, percussion is mid hundreds or a little above, same with sax, photo montages...and starlight charges a little more bc of the equipment they use, its not dj equipment its concert equipment so its different, they even send a tech guy from beforehand to get all the measurements of the room, and do all the calculations to get concert sound into your room.

for me personally i didnt even think about whether i wanted a band or DJ, i always said its a dj and didnt want a band, my preference...even if they were the same amount or vice versa if a dj was more my choice would be a dj. bESIDES HOw would i end the night with FInal chapter lol or other house songs

its ok i understand

Re: budget??

If you could but aside 60% of your budget for your CH, you should be fine when budgeting. You can defintely shop around for better prices than you've listed (good news, right!) and will defintely be able to save. I can tell you from experience though, that it is hard to say that you are on a certain budget and stick to it! lol I have almost doubled what FH first expected and he realizes that I'm not even being extravegant. Good luck with your budget...make your FH proud!

We decided on not going any higher than 50K but it's going to look like it will be around 40K for the whole thing. Average for a NY wedding. Here are the major ones.

Reception: 13500-16000 (pending on the final date and number)

Photography: 2500

DJ: 1050

HM: 3250

Limo: 800

Dress: 575

Flowers: ??? haven't visit yet

That seems very low for a ny metro area wedding.

That's what I thought too - definitely doesn't add up to 40K
