bummed over church not allowing rose petals

I went to pick up the directionals at St. Pat's in Bay Shore and just happend to ask if they allow rose petals to be thrown at the bride and they said NO!!! I am so pissed. they said people can slip on them because they are slippery. I really wanted that picture to turn to black and white and color the petals. What can I do?

Re: bummed over church not allowing rose petals

You mean outside the church, not on the aisle, right?

My sister just got married at St. Pat's in Bay Shore. They had rose petals and it was even raining that day. There were no problems with it, from the church or with people slipping. Double check, good luck!

Re: bummed over church not allowing rose petals

If you mean outside the church, I had the same problem. I asked the Priest if I could throw the rose petals, if I found someone to clean them up. He said that was OK, so I plan to pay one of my little brother's friends $20 to clean them up!

Re: bummed over church not allowing rose petals

what about sparkers? i don't know if this is realistic, but think it would be so cool (especially for pics).

Re: bummed over church not allowing rose petals

I got married at St. Pat's and had the same problem.

I think the only thing they allow is bubbles but I opted to do nothing instead--- I really did not miss them since we had limited time b/c the reception immediately followed the ceremony.

Suggestions:

How about those things that they used for Ryan and Trista's wedding. ( somewhat of confetti on a stick). I think those would be great in pictures.

Also, since I wanted a rose petal shot -- I have a picture at the Oakdale Arboretum with my bridal party surrounding DH & I and throwing the rose petals.

Happy Planning!!!!!

ETS: futuremrspfm -- Did you sister check w/ the church before? I think it's one of those things that if you ask they say no but if the church doesn't know there is nothing written in the paperwork they give you that says you can't.

Re: bummed over church not allowing rose petals

My MOH's church had the same restriction. She did it anyway, they did not say anything. She had her two ring bearers clean them up afterwards.

Re: bummed over church not allowing rose petals

We're doing bubbles at the church and then having our bridal party only throw petals when we go to get our pics taken down by the water. We want that pic in b&w also w/ the petals but I think it's less expensive and easier if 12 people are throwing them at you instead of 200!!

Re: bummed over church not allowing rose petals

Yay. I am so happy. I actually pondered over this all last night. I was thinking maybe I could ask them if I had someone clean them up right afterwards would that be ok. Did they ever mention the petals to your sister? Maybe I shouldn't have even asked. I opened my own can of worms. I just didn't want to pay all that money to be told I couldn't use them. thanks for the info!!!

I was told the FG's couldn't throw petals inside either.

But like someone said, I think there are definite ways around it - if you offer to have someone clean it up...
