No, not here...Maybe there is a planet of room temperature churtled butter people out there, but not here! My grandma once buttered the bread on a tuna sandwich for me. It was so gross.

I have a friend who has one of those butter jars, where you submerge it in water and it keeps out of the fridge for a week or so. I like it because the butter is soft and spreadable. We keep ours in the fridge - hard and cold.

IN THE FRIDGE!!

I would think butter would get funky if left out for too long, it is in the refrigerated section of the supermarket , right?

Yet on another note, I get entirely grossed out when you go to a diner or restaurant and the butter is HARD as a rock.. and its breaks into little chunks when you try to put it on a piece of bread Now that is a YUCK. If my butter isn't 'softened' and/or I cannot spread my butter smoothly, I am totally skeeved!

So I guess in essence I do agree that butter tastes better at room temperature? But I still wouldn't leave it OUT when I was done!

I usually put it in the fridge, but I also have one of those things you fill with cold water and you can leave it on the counter in this special dish. I think you need to change the water every few days, though.

I would never just leave it on a dish.

Eww but have you ever had the butter in a diner that has been out so long the oil separated and is at the top of the little packet?

In the fridge because I don't enjoy salmonella (sp?).

Unless I'm baking, which is often, then I leave it on the counter to soften.

I just ordered one of these because DH always whines about the butter being hard and unspreadable. Big baby!

The butter in the tub--not the fake stuff, but the Breakstones whipped--is easier to spread!

I'm sorry but that's gross leaving it on the counter. Doesn't butter melt after being out for a while. I mean I leave it out for no more than an hour if say we are eating something that we need butter for like corn.
