Can a Bride wear RED?
I'm not wearing white for my wedding and I want to wear a red cloak instead of a veil. But my fiance although isn't a catholic his family is. And several friends of mine who are catholic were upset when I mentioned I wanted to wear a red cloak. They said its not good for a bride to wear red. They didn't mind other colors but red they said was bad. They didn't know why, only that its not recommended. I thought red symbolize love and passion. Can anyone tell me why red is bad?

Re: Can a Bride wear RED?
Well I guess you could go back to ancient times when red was a symbol of sin.. IE the scarlet letter.

Re: Can a Bride wear RED?
I think it depends on the culture. I know my aunt (who is german) wore a red chinese cheongsam to her wedding b/c it is added to happy occasions in that culture. During my wedding, I hope to change into this gorgeous maroon and gold saree I have my eye on.To sort of explain why it's BAD, I found this on a superstition website:
Married in White, you have chosen right,
Married in Grey, you will go far away,
Married in Black, you will wish yourself back,
Married in Red, you will wish yourself dead,
Married in Green, ashamed to be seen,
Married in Blue, you will always be true,
Married in Pearl, you will live in a whirl,
Married in Yellow, ashamed of your fellow,
Married in Brown, you will live in the town,
Married in Pink, your spirit will sink.
I think it's hogwash though :-P It's certainly an interesting site to see all of the superstitions roaming around. If you are interested here's the link:

Re: Can a Bride wear RED?
When I think of Red, I think of the Scarlet Letter. Maybe that is where it came from. They make red wedding dresses now, so tell them you are wearing one. When you show up with a red cloak instead of a whole dress, they will be relieved

I'm not religious in any shape or form so I'd say go with what you want. it might look really sharp.

Re: Can a Bride wear RED?
In Asian cultures, red is considered a very lucky color and symbolizes happiness & good fortune. It's all what you make it- if wearing the red cloak makes you feel special, lucky, and happy, then I say go for it!!
