Can i RETURN my e-ring?? ****updated****

I have a custom made e-ring and not for nothing...it's white gold, i got it in december, and it has had to be dipped 4 TIMES ALREADY!!

On the website, this is what it says:

'The only way we will accept a return of a ring that was either custom or made-to-order specifically for you is;

If the quality of the ring is not up to par, or
If the ring style a client ordered is not what a client received.
Both of these issues need to be verified, in writing, by a certified, INDEPENDENT GEMOLOGIST before a refund will be issued. '

To me, the ring is NOT up to par. I shouldn't have to have had it dipped 4 times already!!! She blames it on me saying my body chemistry is acidic. Give me a break. I think she uses crrrrrraaaapppppppppp to be honest.

The ring was purchased in oct/nov but not completed until december.

Do i have a chance??? I am furious with this vendor (see last post)

ETA: Updated! I went to have it appraised with the Jewelry Judge last night. He was awesome!!! He is familiar with my designers work and was actually shocked that i was having a problem with it. He carefully appraised both my Ering and my 2 wedding bands and they were great. He thinks it has to do with not only my body chemistry but the fact that i use hand sanitizer repeatedly at work. I know i know, everyones going to say DON'T WEAR IT TO WORK....but i love my ring and i'd rather keep getting it dipped then not wear it. I am contacting Elsa tomorrow to show her my appraisal and everything and have her dip it again. I *do* think she should start cutting me some kind of break bc i've had to have it done so many times. Eh--i'll let ya know what happens in the morning. Thanks for all of your suggestions and input!!

I would also get it appraised....just to make sure she isn't trying to scam you!! My e-ring is also white gold..I have had it since Feb. and I don't see any signs yet of it needing to be re-dipped!!! I would try to get them to take it back.... that shouldn't be happening...no matter what your body chemistry is doing!!!! I have had white gold rings for years and not needed to have them re-dipped.....how frustrating!!!!

Ugh, what a PITA!! I've worn my e-ring 24/7 since Feb and I haven't had it dipped at all. Take it to a gemologist asap.

Somethings def not right! I have a ring that is white gold that I have worn for years and years and just this year realized it needs to be dipped.

I would def. call them and see what they say because this is not normal! 4 times is crazy!

Actually, your body chemistry does affect whether or not white gold will turn yellow! Some people can wear it for years and years and not have a problem, but some people will just always have an issue because of their body chemistry

I haven't yet had a problem with my white gold jewelry, but I do know people that have.

That is ridiculous in my opinion, I can't not believe you even had to get it dipped ONCE! They should take the ring back!!!!

I agree....or well, you can't really agree on facts so I second that comment. My mother has this problem so she sticks to yellow gold. I haven't had to dip mine yet, but I do notice some very slight yellowing on the inside of the band...I'm not really worried about it though.

I've been wearing my white gold e-ring every day since September and it hasn't had to be dipped once. I have no idea about one's body chemistry affecting the ring. I had never heard of that before.

I'm with ya on that one. I know your body chemistry is responsible for what the gold does to YOU - but not what you do to the gold. I used to be a walking jewelery store in High School - GOLD (yellow) everywhere! Then one day - no more...it started turning me green any time it touched me for a few minutes. White gold - i'm fine, silver, i'm fine - so i had my stuff dipped...

I am trying to do the same thing, with my engagement ring, it doesnt do this, however with my right hand ring that FH got me for our 1 year engagement anniversary it does this, and I've had to have it dipped twice now, and I'm trying to make them give me my money back but they say its my fault because I'm right-handed. Once I find a way around this BS I will defiantly let you know!

Wow i had never heard of acidic affecting rings. Definitely get your ring appraised and if you are not happy RETURN that bad boy (speak to FH first of course)

Good luck!

Actually, if your ring is anything less then pure gold (which is 24K) then there are other metals in the 'gold recipie' that can tarnish over time due to the salinity of your skin, sweaty hands, chlorine, and the enviorment in general.

Also, you could always try looking into having it plated with Rhodium, a bright, hard chromium colored plating used to cover the dull, greyish/yellowish 18 ct white gold that is underneath.

It DOES happen. Trust Me.

ETA: I'm not trying to be a jerk but I get the impression from some posts that if you haven't seen it, it doesn't happen, which is NOT true. My family has been in the jewlery business for decades and I know for a fact that this is true...I'm just trying to help you girls alleviate some stress about vendors....it's not always their fault....and I'm not saying it's anyones fault actually, that's just the way chemistry works......

Re: Can i RETURN my e-ring??

here is what my darling designer told me:

there is no such thing as WHITE GOLD. It's all yellow gold dipped in rhodium.

OK fine. But i have quite a few other white gold pieces and this doesn't happen.

wwwwwwwwwwhhhaat is going on???
Ok i'm italian, i eat a lot of sauce...does that make me acidic?? I'm not a lefty......ughhhhhhhhhh we shall see what Mr. Jewelry Judge has to say. I am very annoyed though.

Re: Can i RETURN my e-ring??

I have had a few rings re-rhodium plated. Certain cleaning products can also speed up the yellowing process!
Here is a little helpful info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_gold

http://www.18carat.co.uk/whitegoldturnsyellow.html

How Long Will The Plating Last?
Of course, there is no simple answer to the question. It depends on the thickness of the plating, and the precise conditions under which it was applied. How bad the discolouration may be depends on the colour of the substrate, that is the actual metal that the ring is made from.
One thing we told all these enquirers was 'ask the store they bought it from.'

Re: Can i RETURN my e-ring??

I agree that you should see what an appraisal says about it. I do know that acidity in the skin does affect it turning color- FH's aunt is a jewler and explained this to me after I got my ring which only came in white gold. I have had it since Jan of 06 and it is very slightly startuing to turn now- but I think the fact that i use hand sanitizer all the time has not helped. Im planning to have it dipped in February and not using sanitizer while wearing it.

thats what happened to mine, accidentally got clorox on it, had it dipped and i'm just more careful, i dont shower or clean w/ it and it stays so shiny and not yellowish. White gold is made of 60% yellow gold, so its only natural for it to change, but to have to get it dipped so many times doesnt sound right! maybe once a year, or even once every year and 1/2....
