Can My Hostesses wear black to the wedding?
Help!!!My wedding colors are cranberry red and a smoke grey. I couldn't think of a color for my hostesses to wear so I told them to do a black cocktail style dress. This past weekend talking to some other friends, they said you shouldn't wear black to a wedding! Can hostesses wear black? If not black what color do I have them wear?
I'm getting married in September. Other than intermittent stress I'm excited!!!!
Any suggestions?
See pics!!! Picture of black dress is just for reference, not actual dress.

Re: Can My Hostesses wear black to the wedding?
My bridesmaids are wearing black and 2/3 of the mothers are wearing black too. I am a FIRM believer in you never tell people what to wear....let them make their own decision. People wont remember what your hostesses wear....they will remember you!

Re: Can My Hostesses wear black to the wedding?
I have bridesmaids and i have hostesses. I thought it was okay, but even one of the hostesses turned up her nose when I said wear something black. It's kind of too late for me to have them purchase a dress so I guess black will have to work.

So they are like ushers maybe? I think it's totally fine for them to wear black. Honestly, many women will probably wear black to your wedding--there were a lot at mine.

Re: Can My Hostesses wear black to the wedding? My hostesses will pass out the program, stand by the guest book and assist my coordinator where needed at the ceremony. I have 4 of them.
They will also help at the gift table and help at the place card table at the reception. They are really going to help me out a lot to make sure the day goes smoothly.

i never heard of this either. Honestly most ppl will just think they are bm's.
At my wedding, our DOC had the GM give out programs as guests were arriving. The DOC did the placecard table.

Re: Can My Hostesses wear black to the wedding?
I've never heard of hostesses.Anyway, whoever said you can't wear black is crazy. My BM dresses were black, my mom and MIL wore black. Both of my grandmas wore black, not to mention a good portion of female guests
Black is elegant and always a good choice. So if you want them to wear black, then go ahead. That said if they're just handing out programs and stuff, I don't think you should make them wear anything, but that's jmo. I've been the 'program, flower petal' girl a couple of times. I just wore whatever I was wearing to the wedding as a guest. I've never heard of asking those people to wear a particular dress.
ETA: Our groomsmen gave out the programs at mine.

I agree. You can never go wrong in black. I have done this for friends and have just worn what I planned to wear to the wedding or a simple dress that I wore just to the church.
My little cousins are handing out the programs at my wedding. the seating card table will not be monitored and as for the gifts -- FH's grandfather will keep his eye on that.

Thanks everyone! I won't fret too much about the black. I think they will look good.
I have seen hostesses at many of the last few weddings that I attended. I wasn't going to use any, but my coordinator insisted. She also wants me to get ushers!

I hope this doesnt' come out wrong -- but seems like your DOC is trying to pawn off her job on your friends and relatives.
